Deep-rooted in his mind, Jade Maxwell pondered on the possible scenario that would have sprouted the act that just transpired.
This had to be the first time he'd seen a lady being disinterested in him. His wealth, status, and even his aura make them flock around his body.
But her, it was different. Even the nurse at the hospital made conspicuous moves whenever he conversed with them. He shrugged them off. Not his type, he thought.
Just as he was about to move in her direction, his phone dinged again. Without checking the caller ID, he placed the phone in his left ear as he fidgeted with the car door.
“Hello, Mr. Maxwell,” The caller started, with his voice having a tinge of politeness.
“Why are you calling me, Peter?” He replied in a rash tone.
“I've got an important thing to tell you now.”
“Can't it wait till tomorrow when we meet at my Office?” He snarled.
“It's very cruci….”
“Cut the slack off, Peter. Tomorrow it is. Any more lingering around, you won't be getting your paycheck.” He sounded more cold and ended the call abruptly.
He shoved the phone into his pocket as his eyes darted all over the street searching for Laura. He found her walking briskly on the other side of the road. He needed to catch up with her.
His lips parted as her name was about to fall from his lips but he swallowed. He swept his eyes at the public and noticed that it'd attract a lot of eyes to him. Without thinking, he ran straight to the road which was busy with fast-moving cars.
An incoming car horn halted him in the middle of the road, as the headlights of the car shone directly at his face, blurring his vision.
The driver, a man in his early twenties, climbed out his head and yelled at him. “Do you have a death wish? Watch where you're f*****g going dude”
Jade hoisted his hands up and apologized as he jerked off to the path Laura was taking. The light from the fashion shops, Billboard, and other top business buildings on the path devoured every ounce of darkness that existed, thereby making Laura visible to Jade's eyes.
“Laura,” he screamed her name as the distance between them became thinner. Laura recognized the deep voice but ignored it. She wished he could get deleted from her life. Forever. She increased her pace with the intent of getting to the taxi spot.
Run after her jade, a shitty voice rang in Jade's head. He shrugged it off as he recoiled himself back. Creating an impression on the mind of a passerby wasn't what he wanted to do. He had never chased after a woman before. And he'd never do that.
Getting any woman of his choice was an easy thing for him. But why try to catch up with Laura? Maybe it's not polite for him to offer such unfinished treatment to her.
Laura felt that same soft, cold but gentle hand grabbed her wrist and she flinched. The grab was so powerful that it halted her steps.
“What!” she screamed in his face. “ I can remember when I thanked you for saving me the last time.” She rushed through her words trying to make her mysterious stranger sway off from her. The touchy-feely they've both transpired into without her knowing him intimately made her stomach churn.
“I warned you about you touching me without my permission.” She added.
Jade upon realizing that he had lingered around grabbing her hands for too long released it abruptly.
“Laura, I apologize.” He stated.” Why did you leave suddenly? What prompted the sudden change of mind? I have a responsibility, and that responsibility is making sure you're safe. I'm a man of my word. I can't take it back.” He threw questions to her anticipating her to give a well-detailed explanation of it.
The reply came sharp and rash.” I can't sit in the car with a married man. I don't feel comfortable being around married men.”
Jade's jaw slack and his forehead rumpled. The words slapped him so greatly that he took an unnoticeable step away from her. “Who said I'm married?”
“You did.” Laura responded brusquely.
“Oh, I knew where you got the wrong impressions from.” He gave out a chuckle.
“Marriage is another complicated field of life that's for people who would be subject to being its slave.”
Laura shot back her head. “ What do you mean?”
“Never mind,” Jade shrugged her off as he stuffed his hands in his pocket, hoisted out his phone, and cursed on his breath.
“Laura, you've exhausted my time. I need to drop you off. We need to get going.”

Those words he said about marriage encircled Laura's mind as she pondered about it. What did he mean by being a slave in marriage?
Those deep icy blue eyes of his, the scent he reeked of, those beautiful small pink lips that look attractive to be kissed, and his muscular tone body, are so empty to be without an owner.
“Thinking of something?” he broke the silence that lingered around them even after they stepped into the car.
“Nothing.” she lied as she leaned on the door glass with both hands folded together.
A cheesy smile curled around his lips. “ I know you're lying. It's written in your face. You are not a lying type. People like you can't keep a secret to save your life.”
Did he just profile her? The question danced in her mind. She pretended to be untouched by his outburst. Grappling with her turmoil was the uneasiness of being inside a car with a stranger she had come to develop a liking for.
Her stomach swirled. In her mind were images of straddling on Jade's lap as she would take control of his lips, devouring the taste of his mouth while the blasting sound of 80's blue echoed through.
“Laura.”His deep muscular voice pierced through her thoughts and she jolted up. “You seem concerned about something.”
'You wouldn't be in a good place to know about my thoughts now.’ she thought.
Jade swayed the car to the right, dodging an incoming car that drove recklessly. That act made Laura tilt to his side thereby hitting her back on the seat. Jade regretted driving. He cursed for not coming with his chauffeur.
He Spun to her. “The seatbelt is ok for you to use.” He advised her. She nodded and remained silent.
“In a few minutes, everything will become history.” He reminded her.
Laura felt pained by his words. She didn't want to miss him. Was she attracted to him? Or was her situation working on her senses? She couldn't deduce. She tried to confide herself into a cage.
‘He won't even be interested in me. I'm not his type. Nobody likes a plumpy lady that has grown unattractive.’ The voices niggled in her mind.
Jade slammed the brake and the car halted. The speed at which the car halted pushed Laura forward and pulled her backwards again thereby making her smash her back in the seat again.
“Sorry,” He apologized. “ Should have used a seatbelt like I told you so. “Are you alright?"
She shook her head before speaking. “Thanks for dropping me off.” Her voice trailed off. She tried to open the door but it was sealed shut.
“Sorry. It's automated. It locked” He crossed over and reached his hand to the door, grabbed a push button, and pressed it.
His ribs touched Laura's lap, she felt a sensation burnt through her. Her body reacted to his touch. Her stomach dipped. He jerked off quickly without uttering a word.
She needed to end things now before it escalated. The result would be dire.
“Laura…” Jade called, and she stopped.
“Can I get your number?” He requested and stretched his phone towards her. The words came out quickly before he could swallow them.
Laura's eyes widened in shock. “ What!” She screamed to herself, her face masked in confusion, before she could reply, she heard her name again
“Laura,” a voice echoed through.
