“I'm very sorry, Laura. I love you. And I mean. It was never my intention to let you go. Ever since you left me, it feels like I lost half myself. There's a gap created in my heart that can only be filled by you. There's a scar on my heart that can get worse if you don't help heal it. I do love you.” Noah pleaded with Laura as he knelt and grabbed her foot.
Laura stood there with a face contorted with anger. Her face went stoic with no words coming. As Noah reached to grab her hands, she flung it off, only to be jolted up from her slumber land by her powerful hand that grabbed her wrist.
“Having a terrible dream?” A deep masculine voice projected through the room and she fluttered her eyes open only to meet an unrecognized tall and imposing man standing by the rail of the bed. Her vision was clear enough as She felt a grab of a cold, soft hand on her wrist.
She looked down on her hand and realized that it belonged to the mysterious man who stood by her side.
Still blurred by her vision, she flung his hand away and rubbed her eyes to get a better view of the unknown figure that stood beside her.
She sat upright on the bed tilted her face in his direction and was taken aback by the guy that stood before.
The young handsome that brought her here hours ago was the man beside her, but this time around he looked different. His hair was wavy, and his beard was clean-shaven, those deep icy blue eyes of his pierced through Laura.
She got carried by the Greek God that stood before him. His T-shirt was well tucked in, his neck adorned with a chain that was as old as time.
It probably meant something to him.
His wristwatch reflected the light that fell on it, the smell of his cologne filled the room and Laura felt like dragging him into herself and inhaling the sweet swell he reeked of.
He snapped his hand at her face, and she jolted out of her imagination.
Laura tried to maintain her composure. “How dare you touch me without my permission?” She averted the topic.
“My bad,” he apologized and let go of her hand then he gazed at his wristwatch and stared at her face, “It's late. This is 6:45 PM. I need to get you home.”
“I don't need your help. Thank you for saving me last night. For that I'm grateful.” She thanked himm
“Miss, you're my responsibility now. When I drop you off safely at your destination, I think we can both part ways.” He pushed further.
“And if I disagree?” Laura stood her stance as he crossed her arms. She had no idea who this man was, sitting in a car with him is completely insane.
“It's not permission. It's a decision that has already been made.” The man stated firmly.
“I shouldn't have been the first person to have met you when you just woke up from your sleep.” He stated, still gazing at her.
He turned and walked away from her and she sat in silence as she watched him leave. She felt relieved that she had at least won against him on this one.
She couldn't fathom sitting close to him without feeling a knot swirling in her stomach.
He suddenly stopped and she looked at him puzzled.
He turned back to her. “I'll inform the nurse that you're ready for your leave. I'll be outside waiting for you.” Without waiting to hear another complaint that would fall from her lips, he disappeared from her sight.
Laura groaned and she screamed into the pillow. Why couldn't he just take no for an answer?
Just like a speeding car race, the dreams she had flickered in her mind, she shook her head and mumbled words to herself. Part of her wished it was a reality.
A tall and slender fair-skinned lady draped in a white dress that stopped at her knee with a pen stuck inside the pocket situated at her chest strolled inside. Her lips spread across to her ears and she put on a warm smile.
“Good Evening, ma'am.” She greeted me.
Laura nodded as she climbed down from her bed. She knew her purpose of coming so she tossed away the formality and cut to the chase.
*******
The soothing wind brushed on Laura's face as she stepped foot outside after long hours of laying on the bed. She wandered her eyes at the parking spot looking for the unrecognized figure that would be taking her home. She swept her eyes with nearly a degree of 360 but the mysterious young man wasn't found.
She heaved a sigh of relief. Safe at last, she thought.
“Good, you're here.” a similar deep voice startled her and she tripped off from the stairs where she stood, almost falling face down
She turned to face me. “You scared me.” She complained.
“My bad. Can we get going now? It's already getting late. And wouldn't your parents be concerned of your whereabouts? Personally,I'm shocked nobody asked about you.” He said as he looked at her curiously.
His statement made Laura's mind abruptly remember Sarah, she'd be worried about her. To worsen it all, she left her phone at home.
She blinked at him and walked away from him while uttering a word.
“That's not the way to my car, Miss.” He chortled, his voice calm.
“And speaking of which, what's your name?"
“Laura Blackwell.” She answered without looking at his face.
His face and his penchant were a powerful attractive force she couldn't get over with. Was she feeling attracted to him?
She shook her head as she realized the question she asked herself. That was crazy. How can she like someone she'd just met?
‘but you liked Noah at first sight.’ A tiny voice said in her head.
“That was different!" She mumbled.
“What was that?" The man looked at her like she was crazy.
“Nothing." She gave an awkward smile and mentally slapped herself.
He walked close to her and she felt abnormal. He had this aura around him, cold yet likeable.
“I'm Mr. Jade Maxwell” He introduced himself.” But I love it when people address me as Mr Maxwell.”
Mr Jade? His name? A niggling voice spurted inside her head. Was she feeling attracted to a married man? Every ounce of feelings and attraction that lingered around for him died.
“Shall we?” He gestured to the parking lot and they both walked to his black Porsche.
The car beeped, signalling it was opened and as they got closer to the car, Laura felt uneasiness consume around her.
He went over to her side and opened the car door for her to step in but was shocked to see her walking away
“Laura." He hollered but that only made her increase her paced and he did nothing but watch as the odd lady disappeared from his sight.
His phone rang, and he picked up without looking at the caller's ID.
“Sir, we have him in sight. What's the order."
“Fire."
