Noah Allen rushed back home after the board meeting was over intending to meet Laura at their home but was taken aback when he realized the house was empty.
He stormed into her room only to find her bed draped and the wardrobe void of clothes. He collapsed to the door and grabbed his hairs in annoyance.
“f**k!” He blurted out as he smashed the door so hard that the thud sound echoed throughout the room.
He grabbed his phone from his pocket, unlocked it, swiped his call icon, and dialed her number.
Five times, the call went unanswered. With no choice or any option of what to do, he walked out from the room.
He got inside his car and sped off back to his office with his focus and mind niggling around the street with the intent of seeing Laura dragging a luggage on the way.
On reaching the company, he yanks off to his office with the hopes of not getting disturbed by anyone.
He grabbed the telephone and dialed his secretary.
“Good afternoon, sir.” A young female secretary greeted.
“Cancel all my schedules today.” He commanded her.
“But why sir?” The secretary questioned.
“You're in no position to ask me that. Do as you're told, Mia, or you know where the consequences will be aimed at.” He roared at her.
“Ok, sir,” Mia replied politely despite being hurt by his inhumane behavior.
With the call dead, he slammed the telephone on its stand not minding the effect of his actions on the poor telephone.
With both hands on his face, he rolled it up to his draped black hair and smacked them on the desk. He reached out to his phone again and wanted to give her another call but retracted his mind from it.
He rose from his chair and walked to the window, opening it to stare at the City as the wind brushed his fair. But nothing seems to pacify his mood
His phone rang, and he jerked towards it, with high hopes that the call was his ex-wife. He raised the phone only to see his mom's name displayed on the screen.
He sighed and left it on the table, allowing it to ring
***
At the Allen family Mansion.
Noah stepped inside their apartment to know the reasons her Mom gave him those calls he left unanswered.
"Why didn't you answer my calls?” The voice cut through the empty room and Noah fixed his eyes to where the voice emanated from.
He found his Mother descending the stairs.
“I was busy." He lied and began to walk out of her presence.
“You've never ignored my calls before. Noah. I know of that.” She reminded him.
"Hope it's not because of that thing you called a Wife?”
His Mom's words stabbed him as he halted his step and tilted his head in her direction.
“That's enough mother. Don't body shame her again. She has had enough of you.” He reprimanded her.
His mother scoffed. “Is that the way you speak to your mother?” She voiced, her tone dripping with authority.
“Why can't I have peace of mind in your house? It seems I don't want to be here anymore.” Ending the statement he turned back and began walking away from his Mom.
“Noah, you better come back here immediately.” She commanded him.
"The wrectched woman is gone."
Noah ignored her and walked to the door and was about to grab the handle when his mother made an unexpected statement.
“Sooner or later you'll be meeting your new wife.” Her mom smirked.
“What!” he exclaimed.” What are you talking about? “ He walked back to her as she sat on the sofa with a glass of wine in her hand.
“You heard me and that's final." She sipped and placed the glass on the table.
"I do think you are a grown man but you can't make decisions for yourself. So I'm helping you in setting your life on the right course.”
“By telling me who to marry?” He hurled out.
“By opening your eyes to the opportunities that marriage grants.”
“And how does that align with you toying around my life, Mom?”
“Noah!" she called out, “ You don't know the responsibilities that lie before you. Do you think that somebody with affluence like you would just fall in love with anybody and marry her? It doesn't work that way, darling.”
"People like us see marriage as a business opportunity to grab, Noah. You see marriage as a license to transcend your status to another level by merging with another influential family. I thought you knew about this.” She explained, and gulped down her drink.
“I shouldn't have divorced her.” Noah regretted it as he collapsed on the sofa.
“You wouldn't have had access to what rightfully belongs to you, Noah. And speaking of which, who was she? Who does she belong to? Do you know her family? What influence did she bring to the family?"
Noah remained silent as he thought about his mother's questions.
"Exactly." She snorted, taking his silence as an answer. "Absolutely nothing. Instead she was directing shame to this family with her unattractive body.”
Noah stared at his Mother with eyes full of hatred and anger. He controlled the urge to yell at her.
It seemed all his world had crashed as he recalled the mounting pressure from his Mom to divorce Laura. He never wanted to do it, he was ready to fight it to the last.
But unfortunately, when the choice of losing his birthright was sprawled out on his face, he was undecided. Her or his company, instead he let her go.
The guilt still haunts him greatly right from the day his mother brought up that topic, he hasn't been himself. Sometimes he mulls over it and unknowingly agrees that his Mom has a point.
Firstly, she began gaining unnecessary weight which resulted in her not being as attractive as she was before. Secondly, He never knew who she was. The first day he met her was at a restaurant where she was working. It happened so fast, so unexpectedly.
Those images resurfaced in his mind. The image of her tripping over when she brought him a very hot coffee tea in a tray and the hot liquid poured on his suit. It burned through his suit and he felt the hotness on his skin. He wanted to vent his anger at her, but her symmetrical face, aligned with her beautiful pink small lips captured his heart. On the floor she laid, with the broken tray, she carried a pitiful face.
The maltreatment from her boss was something he couldn't stand and watch as he used his affluence and resolve it. And then everything that happened was history.
“Noah!!” The loud voice snapped him from his wandering world and he sat upright.
“Finally, the unattractive lady is gone from our life.” A known voice shouted from the stairs and Noah recognized that to be his sister's.
He swallowed the anger that bubbled up in his chest and face down without saying anything.
“Good evening, Noah.” Adriana greeted. he ignored her.
“Is he crying over her?” Adriana whispered to her mom.
She squinted at her and she recoiled back. She grabbed her phone, stuck in her earpiece inside her ear not minding to be part of the already known conversation.
Noah rose and walked out of the room without muttering a word. He needed to be alone. He needed to move on.
“Noah, tomorrow you'll be meeting your new fiance.” she interposed.” She's beautiful and more attractive than that puffy unattractive ex-wife of yours.``
He ignored her sayings as his mind traveled into a lurid train of thought. His footsteps resounded with the emotions that grappled around him. The air around him wasn't the normal breeze-freezing chilled air he loved receiving. It was full of betrayal and hurt. He got to his car, brought the engine to life and drove out from the house.
His face on the road, his mind on Laura. His thoughts on not meeting that demanding and cold woman he called mother.
He halted at the bar. The blasting sound of music echoed through the street. He walked towards it and on his side stood half-n***d women posing in an attractive position of seducing men. He swept his eyes off them as he got inside the club.
The inside looked alive as men and women were brushing themselves against each other, with others grabbing each other's sensitive parts and making s****l caresses. He brushed past them and reached the bartender. He ordered a few drinks, located a VIP section and situated himself there.
With eyes all swept throughout the crowd, at the centre of the club when the color bulb was circling with different colors colliding, his eyes grabbed two odd females with no man behind them dancing happily.
His Vision Blurred and blinked several times. By the time he reopened his eyes, the women were gone.
