Just as the unprecedented scenario transpired, the culprit driver reversed and bolted away. The streets once void of people started to get crowded. People gathered as Laura laid motionless, her blood flowing down the road. Everyone stared at her bleeding head, no one wanted to get their hand dirty. Whispers and cries of terrors rose in the air and as a black Porsche car approached, everyone gave way "What is it?" A deep and imposing voice questioned as he noticed they'd stopped moving. "There seems to be an accident sir." His chauffeur responded, thinking of a way to maneuver through the huddle of people. "How's that my problem? Move." He commanded. The driver honked the horn as passed through, making sure not to cause the same mistake. As they passed the cluster of individuals, the man winded down his glass and glanced at the the unconcious body that laid bedding his car. feeling unbothered, he put the glass up. They had almost made it past the people when a voice yelled from the crowd. "Won't you help the injured lady?" "Don't stop." The man said quickly, "keep moving." The driver obeyed. But just then, people surrounded his car, urging and yelling for him to help. "What's this nonsense? I'm going to be late." He muttered angrily. "I don't think I can drive any further sir. One move of the car and I might hit someone." Left for Him, he would have preferred it that way, to knock them all out. But he didn't want unnecessary blood in his hand. "Stop." The car immediately came to a halt and the cries died down. "Call the paramedics or something. Just do anything to make sure we leave here." He ordered The driver made a call and in less than 30 minutes, they were there, hoisting Laura on a stretcher and into the van. "Ready to go sir?" His driver asked, as the van drove away. The unknown man sighed and punched the bridge of his nose. “Call Owens, looks like we'll be visiting." *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Laura fluttered her eyes open only to see herself in a dimly lit room with a room painted in light blue colors. On her front, she fixed a plasma TV to the wall which displayed videos. As she tilted to the right, her eyes fixated on a small wheeled table with medical equipment, and supplies placed on it. The bed she laid was soft and had side rails. Her brain was trying to process all the information her eyes were directed at. At that moment, she felt a triangulated plastic that covered her nose and her eyes widened in shock. "Where am I? What happened?' The question swept past her like a whirlwind. 'What is the nasal cannula doing in my nose?' She thought to herself as she grabbed the equipment and pulled it out from her nose. The room reeked of antiseptics and medical supplies, and she wrinkled her nose in distaste. She struggled to get herself out of bed as he heard a deep muscular voice echo through the room. “Miss, I implore you not to disrupt anything.” A voice echoed. She spun her head to where the voice echoed and saw a man with blue eyes, sat on the tell chair, his gaze piercing at her. “Stay still while I get the doctor.” He said Curiosity seeped through her as her mind traveled to all the possible things that should make her be in the hospital. “ How long was I out?” She demanded abruptly “A day.” The man replied as he left her alone in the room. A few minutes later, Two men stormed inside the room she was in. She sat upright and was still lost in thought. The doctor, a man in his late forties with gray hairs and a bearded jaw, walked to her position, his white overall made him look more decent. “Hello, Miss. What's your name?” The doctor asked “I'm Laura,” she replied. The doctor nodded and continued.” Miss Laura, I'm Doctor Owens James. So yesterday, you were brought into this hospital by that generous man over there.” He pointed his finger in his direction, and Laura followed his eyes to where the tall and imposing man stood, pretending as if he had no business in their conversation. He sat comfortably, his hands crossed. “Okay. He found you last night, you were knocked out by a car. It was a hit and run." The doctor explained And just as those words escaped from the doctor's mouth, memories of last night flickered in her mind as she recalled the unsteadiness in her steps, and the flashing of car light that blurred her vision. At that moment, she felt a pain in her head. She carried her hand to that spot and touched it. She felt a bandaged area there. She remembered hitting her head hard on the ground. “He brought you here. There was a lot of bleeding. He even chose to stay until you're awake.” Laura's eyes bulged out as the words of the doctor sank inside her. She darted her eyes at the stranger and fixated her gaze on him. That was nice of him, she thought. “We've ran all the checks and there seems to be no problem except the head injury and some broken ribs. Sooner or later you'll be released.” The doctor explained. “I'd love to ask you a question?” The doctor's expression deepened with seriousness written all over his face. She nodded sluggishly as she was anticipating the kind of question that would be directed to her. “What were you doing in the middle of the road”? The doctor asked, his face showed no emotion. “Nothing!” She didn't want to answer his question, it was none of his business . The doctor nodded, understanding that whatever it was, she didn't want to talk about it. He patted her on her shoulder, walked away from her, and advised, "Try to be careful next time, You nearly got yourself killed yesterday.” The man walked towards the doctor ignoring her gaze and harboring a little anger towards her. "We can discuss her discharge later." The doctor explained to him. He thanked the doctor and they both left Just as he stepped his foot outside, he paused and tilted his head towards her direction, “The nurse will check up on you soon. Enjoy your stay for now.” He said it all without a tint of emotion. The lady had cost him both his money and his time. Laura raised her head, coming face to face with him, she smiled. There was a look of familiarity in his eyes. "Can you at least know the name of the person that saved me?" She demanded, an eyebrow raised. The mysterious man just glared at her and walked out. She stared at his form till he disappeared, she could have sworn she'd seen him before. But where?
