Outside the compound, deep-rooted in her thought was the betrayal that just slammed at her face. Her mind traveled into the land of thoughts remembering the stabbing words that dripped from Mrs Allen's month.
She was dejected.
To worsen her situation, she walked under the rays of the scorching sun which resulted in her sweating profusely.
She had no idea why, but she had highlighted just meters away from her house.
Returning to her former home was the only option to go on with. Her senses dulled at the noise from the reviving engine of the car and the buzzing of the City and her struggling to think straight was the only thing that transpired on her outside.
After minutes of walking, thinking, sobbing, and sweating under the heated sun rays, she finally arrives at her former matrimonial home.
She pushed the gate open, strolled inside and realized that her ex-husband was still around. She diddled towards the sitting room only to find him pacing frantically in the room mumbling incoherent words to himself.
His face contorted with anger at the sight of her presence and he paused.
“Where the hell have you been?” He questioned her.
She ignored him and was about to walk past when he obstructed her way. “I'm talking to you, Laura!” He roared, “How dare you try to ignore me?”
Laura eyed him from bottom to top and sighed. “ Point of correction, I'm not your wife anymore. You and I have nothing to talk about anymore. Can you let me take what belongs to me so I can leave?” Laura replied, her voice hard.
Noah's eyes flashed with anger with her cold answer. He resented the urge to grab her neck and flatten her to the wall for speaking to him that way.
“You're not leaving now. We are not yet done. I have to give you a share of my assets.” He interposed.
Laura furrowed her eyebrows and smirked. “That's so kind and generous of you, Noah Allen.” She delivered her statement sarcastically. “Divorcing your wife under your Mom's will and now trying to secretly wire some assets to my account without her consent. For the record, I'm amazed!”
Noah walked two steps towards her and squinted at her again.”Did you go to meet my Mom?” He asked curiously.
“Oh! That witch that has control over your life, yes I did,” she replied defiantly.
Noah's muscles clenched tight and he curled his hands into fists and was about to smack her head to the wall, but he controlled it. The Laura he knew hours ago is not the same Laura who's dripping words that have a tinge of venom in it.
“Laura, don't you dare speak of my mother in that manner, never again.” His face went impassive and his tone filled with rage. His breathing increased. He was losing his composure.
“She called me a meatball, and even went on to say that I'm unattractive and unfit to settle with any man, did you defend me? No.” Laura uttered abruptly in a defiant tone.
“The only reason I came to this house is to get my stuff and be gone from your Life Forever.” She nearly broke down at her last statement but she didn't let her emotions show.
“I'm sorry things have to end this way with us. You don't understand.” He tried to change how the topic of the conversation but before he could open his lips.
Laura disappeared from his sight. She stormed into her room, sealed the door shut and leaned at the door sobbing uncontrollably. She swept her eyes at her large amazing room and wailed silently.

Noah waited for her, to see her, but it was futile. He gazed at his wristwatch for the umpteenth time, it was already late in the afternoon, he was supposed to be in a board meeting.
Without wasting any time, he disappeared.
She recoiled herself from the emotional and heart-wrenching situations she was in and began clearing things up from her room.
Safe and satisfied with the things she needed. She took one last look at the house and left.
Before packing all her belongings she phoned her best friend, Sarah, and detailed everything that had transpired with her. Sarah listening to her heart-sinking story decided to be of help to her.
AT SARAH’s APARTMENT.
Laura sat at the dinner table with her Texas hash and chicken fried steak with the food consuming the air with its delicious flavor.
But Laura didn't smell that kind of air. The only air she seemed to be breathing was that of grudge, hatred, betrayal, and pain.
Before packing, Laura had phoned her best friend, Sarah and told her everything that has happened and in no time, she was outside of the house, loading Laura's things into her car
She kept on swirling her spoon in the air as she had lost a complete appetite for the food.
Sarah, a short and dark lady with green emerald eyes and a pointed forehead, stormed into the dining room only to find her friend drowned in deep thoughts. She dropped the Red wine she carried from the fridge, untied the apron she wore and kept it on her plush chair. She walked over to where Laura sat and patted her on her shoulder.
“Laura, why are you overthinking this? Some men aren't just worth it, they're nothing but a piece of s**t. Noah's an asshole, don’t let him get to you.” Sarah advised, her voice was sharp and filled with a tinge of hatred. She knew her friend was too good for a man like Noah.
Laura pondered on her statement and acceded that it was a very fair description of his ex-husband.
“I'm not interested in any of this.” She opened up finally, “ I feel disconnected from this world. That was the only family I knew since my Foster parent died. And now I feel like I've lost some part of me.” She wailed as she collapsed into her friend's arms which was now a comforting zone to her.
“You're not alone. You have me. You can stay with me. Anything you need, I'll make it available for you, just promise me that you will get over this mess you're trying to situate yourself in.” Sarah consoled her.
“Oh! I just know the perfect thing to brighten up your day.” She chimed and left the dining room.
With a blink of an eye, she re-appeared into a room in a beautiful purple dress in her arms in which the bodice was adorned with delicate lace and some crystals that shimmered like a star on the cloud at night.
Laura's expression changed to confusion and her lips parted, "Why the dress? Where do you think of going?" She asked out of curiosity.
Sarah's lips curled and turned into a bristle chuckle. "We are going out."
"We? Going out? To where?" She blurted as she wrinkled her nose in distaste.
"The club."
"No, Not for me. I won't be going anywhere." She relaxed back on the chair with the intent of sinking back into her deranged thoughts.
Sarah tossed the dress into her face and disappeared from her presence. Coming back, she pulled Laura from her seat, despite her weight, and led her to the living room.
Leaving her without a choice, Laura instantly undressed, and wore the dress Sarah gave her.
The neckline of the dress was so dipped that it was revealing the upper part of her breast, but she couldn't care less. The gown traveled and stopped beneath her knee.
“Are you okay?” Sarah asked after noting how tight and revealing her cloth was but She nodded in affirmation.
After touching up their make up, they both boarded a taxi and arrived at a club.
Sarah left her and approached a man cladded in a gray suit to make inquiries. Right there alone, Laura could feel the intensity of people's gaze at her.
Sometimes, it feels great to be conspicuous, she thought.
Sarah came back and they both went to the VIP session. They ordered their usual cocktail and the two friends drank themselves to stupor.
Laura gulped down each drink delightfully without having a rethink about what she was drinking. She drank with the sensation of wearing away her sorrows.
Sarah just stared at her and she shook her head, a grin appearing on her face.
"How many glass are you going to have? Don't get drunk!" She cautioned
"Yeah. I know, let's dance." She yelled, and together, they found themselves on the dancefloor, swaying to the dulcet melodies of the beat.
After dancing to their satisfaction, they both returned to their previous position giggling and resumed their drinking.
Sarah's phone buzzed
She searched through her purse and rushed outside to answer the call.
Sarah came back in haste to let Laura know that she'd be leaving because she had somewhere important to be.
Reluctant to leave Laura all by herself because of the state she was in, she made her promise to get back home immediately when it started getting late.
Paying little to no attention, Laura agreed. She was enjoying herself a little too much.
"Shit." She muttered, and tried to get up.
She was too busy drowning away her sorrows she hadn't realized how late it was.
She tried to find her footing as she wobbled outside.
"Where is it." She mumbled, rummaging through her bag as she pretended to be strong and trudged away from the club, heading towards where she'd get a taxi.
The streets were void of people, only the sound of the blasting club echoed.
With her blurry eyes and her hazy mind, she stumbled on the road path. She couldn't discern an incoming red light that headed towards her direction.
She tried shielding her eyes from the bright light as the driver ride towards her with full force.
Suddenly aware of the person standing in the middle of the road, the chauffeur slammed the brakes and the tires screeched as he tried bringing the car to a halt.
"Move woman!" A stranger yelled but it was too late, only inches away, the car halted, knocking her out of the way.
