Chapter 2

It was an unpleasantly cold winter's night; dark, mystifying, the moon was sheltered by the murky looming clouds. Emily felt anxious and uneasy. It was just a little past midnight. Emily wrapped her little daughter in her arms, trying to shield her from the cold.

Her mind was wandering in all directions. Treacherous possibilities of what could happen to her and her child dwelled on the top of her mind.

"How could he abandon me? All the years that we spend together don't they matter to him anymore? So what if I am not his biological daughter, I love him and I know so does he. She looked at her baby who was all curled up in her arms.

The baby starts crying .

Emily:" Shh ! Why are you crying little one . I am here . You are not alone . I know fate has been cruel to us lately but I am sure our destiny won't abandon us like my father did . He was the only person I loved more than my life and he just left me to die . I can't believe he is not my real father . My mother lied to me my entire life . But I won't let anything break me . I will be strong for you , for our future . I feel sorry for you . There will always be an empty space in your life . The space that belongs to your dad but sadly I don't know who he is ? God I wish that I remembered what happened that day at the party . "

8 Months before :

Julie was Emily's bestfriend. She knew Emily had a crush on John so she forced Emily to accompany her to Matt's party. Matt was Julie's boyfriend and John was Matt's bestfriend. She thought she could be a matchmaker.. Emily was not a party girl. She took a deep breath and stepped out of the car.

Beer bottles were strewn about on the lawn. Mostly everyone was drunk. A few people were sitting around in clusters either making out, dancing somewhere, drinking or just talking. The occasional drunker were stumbling around. They went inside. The messy room had empty bottles laid on the ground, waiting for someone to trip over them. Emily almost fell a victim.

Julie noticed that Emily was uncomfortable,

Julie:" Don't worry he likes you ."

Emily:" No he does not ."

Julie:" Of course he does ."

Emily hid her cheeks with her hands. She knew she was blushing. She had a crush on John since sixth grade. Every year during prom she used to wait for John to approach her but he never did. But it was different this time. She saw John staring at her during class. She felt like he reciprocated the same feelings.

"He don't even look at me ." Emily sighed.

Julie tried to comfort her "That's what guys do if they love you they ignore you ."

Emily:" ' Love ' , I don't believe in love . Love is an illusion . I have never seen a happy couple in my entire life . My dad and my mom didn't even shared the same bedroom . And my step mom basically treats my dad as a puppet . "

Julie:" Love is a fantasy."

Emily:" As if fantasy is real! we create a fantasy world to escape real world . "

Julie:" That's not true, it gives you a reason to keep going . "

" Hey girls" Matt exclaimed coming towards them to give a hug. " How is it going. Are you liking the party? "

"I guess I will tell you with a kiss." Julie says while pressing her lips against Matt's. Emily never liked Matt. She always thought that he was using Julie as a rebound.

Matt:" Come I will introduce you to my friends."

Julie:" Oh I can't leave Emily alone. "

Matt:" Oh Emily, I forgot about you. "

Emily nodded" I am delighted that you invited me."

Matt slapped Emily on the back. "Stop with the non sense." He chuckled. "Loose up, don't be so stiff. He shoved a beer in front of her face. "Drink it you need it more that anyone in room."

Julie:" Where is John? Maybe he will give her a company while I will be busy with you. "

Matt:" I don't know. He might be around. "

Emily:" Go Julie, I am enjoying myself. I will be fine."

Julie:" Matt give us a minute. "

Matt goes and sits with his friends.

Julie:" Ok listen, John likes you. I think he is shy, so why don't you make a move."

Emily:" I don't even know where he is."

Julie:" It is a small party. You will find him. Have fun but don't forget to use a protection."

Emily pushes her away" Oh God shut up, nothing like that is going to happen."

"Who knows?" Julie chuckles.

Matt pats his laps. Julie takes it as a sign. She was uncomfortable but she goes and sits on Matt's lap.

Emily's eyes were searching for John. Two hours past, and still John hadn't shown up. She decides to leave but then she sees John walking out of a room. Her heart starts throbbing. She was about to wave at him. But then she sees that John was not alone. He walked out of the room with a beautiful girl by his side. She was in tears. She ran towards the door put Jack stopped her path.

Jack:" Hey Emily, or should I call you mom."

Julie:" Stay away from her, Jack."

Jack:" What I am just saying the truth. She don't even drink."

Emily:" I am not a mom. "

Jack:" So prove it, close your eyes take a tequila shot ."

Emily:" Ok "

Julie:" Emily you are not obligated to prove anything to anyone."

Emily:" One will be good."

Emily get wasted and the next morning she finds herself in a room without even a single cloth on her body . Her undergarments were lying on the floor . The red stain on the bedsheet explained what happened at night. Her head felt heavy . She took a deep breath and looked at her body . There were scratches on her body . She feared that something wrong happened at night . She got dressed and ran downstairs. She spotted Matt.

Matt was surprised to see her" I didn't knew you were here, Julie left at night. "

Emily:" What happened last night ? "

Matt:" Oh! I never knew you were so fun ."

Emily asked furiously" I said what happened last night. "

Matt:" You got so drunk . And you danced like crazy . You took off your jacket. "

Emily:" Was I alone. "

Matt:" No, last I saw, you were with some guy. "

" Which guy ? " She asks.

Matt:" I don't know, I didn't see his face. "

Emily's body shivered "Julie must have or Jack or anyone else. "

Matt:" I doubt that, you look quite tensed, is everything alright. "

Emily:" I have to go. "

Matt:" Come I will drop you. "

Emily:" No just leave me alone. "

Emily drove away from the dreaded house. She was trying to forget about last night but destiny had planned something else for her. Emily inquired every single person who was present at the party about the guy but no one saw him . After few days she found out that she was pregnant . She was just seventeen . She feared how her father will react . But there was no way she could hide it so she decided to tell it to her father and Ava.
