DRAKE POV
I looked up from my chat with Andre to see Lily looking all blushed as she avoided my questioning gaze.
Andre?
“Is there something I should know?” I asked icily with my fist clenched tight under the table. She couldn’t possibly mean anything by that question? Maybe I’m just overthinking s**t.
“Wa—what?” She stammered as she uses her fork to play with her food, “No, there’s nothing wrong.”
“Then why the sudden outburst?” Simeon asked blankly with a crease on his forehead.
“No brother, it was a mistake?” She said and wore a big smile in order to hide what she is really thinking inside and that made me uncomfortable by the minute.
I placed a potato in my mouth and stole glances at her as I remembered how it all started, when I realized I wanted her—when I first secretly wished her to be mine.
It was on a summer night, ten years ago and I just gotten home from hockey practice, looking all drained and tired, with only one thing in mind…food.
But all that was erased immediately, including my fatigue, when I passed her room and saw her getting ready for prom looking very beautiful in her flowing blue dress that I stared at her momentarily lost from her doorway and when I came to, I had discovered to my dismay, the sudden jealousy I had began to feel when ever she talks romantically with any other guy and I had always tried my best to mask my emotions under the cover of brotherly care.
Though I’m aware that all feel for her will end in nothingness, I still couldn’t stop my heart from racing as I stared into her deep blue eyes and her glowing light skin that shines like glass, making it almost impossible to hold my self down and not run my mouth on it as I wrap her slim figure around my body with my hands lost in her long curly brown hair that cascaded her face thereby giving her a look of an angel, for she look so pure…untainted…so mine…
I took a bite of my steak and wondered why she had to be my half sister, for she could have been someone else, anyone else…but my half sister.
“So what do you plan on doing as you are back now sweetheart?” Simeon asked as he looked at her adoringly.
“Hmm…I plan on renting my own place and go find a job” Lily replied quietly as she placed another batch of potatoes on her plate.
“What job?” Mrs Robinson asked as she turned her head for the the first time, from my dad and looked at her in surprise, “I understand dear that you are now a certified nurse, but don’t you think you should assist your brothers with the company?”
“No mother” she laughed and shook her head, “I want to work in an hospital, that’s where I belong.”
“Ok, what hospital sweetheart?” My dad asked with his brow raised.
“I’m not so sure yet, but I’m thinking of applying at UHH” she replied with a stern voice as she looked up to my Dad and in that instance, I froze with a fork in my mouth as my fears became confirmed…
“UHH? As in the Universal Heath Hospital? Andre’s family hospital?” I heard Simeon ask from a distance, but I was too far gone to see things clearer for my vision had became blurry.
And soon enough, just at the right time—
“Hello Mr and Mrs Robinson…”
*************************
I looked at her grudgingly as she stood up shyly to hug Andre and I wore a frown as his hand stayed longer than expected on her shoulder.
“Come sit Bud…before your meal gets cold” I beckoned to him to come over to my side of the table…away from Lily.
“Yes…yes” he nodded at me and gave a small bow to my father and his wife and walked over to my side at the table with a small grin on his face.
“Thanks for having me Mrs Robinson” he said as he sat down and looked at the dishes on the table, “…..and they look delicious.”
“Oh you are welcome you” Mrs Robinson giggled as she stood up to place some meat and potatoes on his plate and when she was done, she added with a big smile on her face;
“Now eat up before it gets cold.”
“How’s your father Andre?” My father asked jovially for he had always been friends with Andre’s father since before we were born, so he has always regarded him as his son.
“He is very fine sir” he answered, “he sends his regards.”
“That’s very good” my father nodded with a contented smile on his lips and added;
“My only daughter wishes to work at your hospital—”
“Dad can we please talk about that later?” I interjected, not wanting Lily to be discussed with Andre, not to talk of to allow her to work with him, for I ain’t comfortable with the way she bats her lashes at him from across the table.
Thankfully, my father dropped it and waved his hands at me and said resignedly;
“Yeah you are right, I shouldn’t meddle, I almost forgot.”
“No dad” she said breathlessly as she stood up to put her plates away, “you weren’t meddling for I really will love to work at the hospital.”
And then I snapped…
“Young lady” I growled angrily under my breath, “there is a corner office waiting for you at the company…so stop your childish wishes for you are to resume work, first thing on Monday.”
