Hyacinth
Tristan walked into my bedroom without bothering to knock and stood in front of my bed. His shirt was off, and a white towel was wrapped around his waist. Had he come from his shower straight into my room? Droplets of water were sliding down the hard lines of his shoulders, arms, and toned stomach. My mouth became dry as I studied his bare chest and broad shoulders. Greedily, I gazed at his naked torso. His body was perfect and his devastatingly handsome face was even better. From his thick brown hair to his wide hazel eyes and strong jawline, he didn’t have one flaw. Even the small scar over his right eyebrow was sexy. “Hyacinth,” he said in that addictive, deep voice. “I can’t wait any longer. Your stolen glances during dinner were filled with enough heat to set this place on fire. It's driving me crazy.” He pushed his shaggy brown hair away from his eyes. I bit my bottom lip as he strode over to my bed like he couldn’t stand the distance between us. Then, he sat down beside me, close enough that our knees were touching. An electric current passed between us at the contact, and I had to bite my lip to keep from moaning out loud. My eyes shot down to the towel around his waist. Tristan wasn’t bothering to hold it in place. The cotton fabric was slipping, showcasing the deep V indentation on his lower stomach that led to his… My eyes went wide, and I looked up at him. “See something you like?” Tristan asked and smirked. I nodded, unable to form actual words. He cupped my cheeks and drew my face toward his. His warm hands on my skin made my head spin, and my hands began to shake. Our lips were only an inch apart. “Tonight is our anniversary, babe.” he whispered, his eyes on my lips. “Ill have you all to myself.” We leaned in, finally acting on our feelings… Suddenly, someone knocked on my hotel room door, interrupting my daydream. In reality, I was sitting on my bed, and I was completely alone. My cheeks heated, and I tried to slow my breathing. I couldn't face anyone right now. What if it was Tristan? Did he travel all the way to pick me up? Well, the conference workshop was over and I was ready to go home. I stared at my door until someone knocked again. “Hyacinth! It's me! Can you please open up? I feel awkward just standing out in the hallway.” My best friend Lia's voice came from the other side of the door. “Sorry!” I called and rushed to open the door. A huge grin bloomed across my face when I saw my best friend. We texted almost every day but this was the first time I had seen her in person in over a year. Lia and I threw our arms around each other. When she pulled away, she looked at me questioningly. “What took you so long to open the door?” Lia asked. I blushed, pulled her into my room, and shut the door. “Uh, I was brushing my hair,” I lied. Lia grinned slyly.“Sure you were,” she teased like she knew exactly what I’d been doing. “Lia,” I winced, knowing she would fuss about it. “I didn't say anything.” She hid her laugh behind her palm. “Sure, you were dreaming about your mate.” My cheeks turned red again and I stuttered terribly. “W - What does that have to do with anything?” “It has to do with everything, my friend, especially when your blouse is open.” She grinned. I looked down at my blouse and found the buttons still intact. “Lia, you little —” The truth is : I wasn't embarrassed because I'd been daydreaming about the sexiest man alive. Every woman my age did that. It was who I was fantasizing about that made me self-conscious. Tristan Callahan—the man in my fantasy and the Alpha of the Silver Crystal Pack—was my mate. “It's so good to see you,” I said. “Thank you for driving all the way here just to help me get ready.” “Of course, girl. I've missed you. Home just isn't the same without you.” Lia squeezed my hand and put her bag down on one of the extra chairs. Lia and I had been inseparable since kindergarten. That was until a year ago when she found her mate and moved out with him to live together in his pack. “Let's get started!” Lia said. Her deft fingers arranged my long blonde hair into a braided crown that wrapped around the back of my head. She compared two foundations with my skin tone, trying to find the one that best matched my pale complexion and finally, finished lengthening my eyelashes and picked up a tube of pale pink lipstick. After that, I slipped into my dress. The bodice showcased my slight curves, and the flowy skirt made me look taller than I was. The silver high heels I was wearing helped with that, too. Lia had mixed white and silver eyeshadow to create a gorgeous color that accentuated my blue eyes. My look was completed with the simple silver necklace that I always wore. I only took it off when I showered. At the end of the chain was the letter “H”. The necklace had been a gift from my grandmother. Her name was Hannah, and she had passed away when I was thirteen. My mother and I had lived with my grandma for all of my life. I’d never known who my father was. Growing up, it seemed like my grandma was the only one who understood me. It had been she who raised me while my mom chased after rich and successful men. “I look…beautiful,” I breathed out and continued to study myself in the mirror. “You look stunning!” Lia said. “I can't thank you enough.” I turned and hugged my oldest friend. She squeezed me tight, but when she pulled back, her expression was concerned. “Oh, Hyacinth, you're shaking. Are you really that nervous for tonight?” “Yeah, I just don't want to do anything stupid…” I trailed off, Tristan's handsome face coming to mind for the millionth time today. “Why don't you order some champagne from room service?” Lia suggested and started to put her makeup back into her bag. “A drink might be good for the nerves.” After a few drinks, my jittery nerves miraculously calmed. “Feel better?” She asked. “Yeah,” I nodded with a smile. “Thank you.” “You're welcome,” she rose to her feet. “Now, get your ass out of here and go have fun with your mate. Happy anniversary.” “Thank you.”
