As Rory gazed at the painting, she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Cassius's words, his actions, seemed too calculated, too deliberate.
And then, just as she was starting to piece together her thoughts, a sudden noise echoed through the hallway.
Cassius's head snapped up, his eyes narrowing as he listened to the sound. "Excuse me for a moment," he said, his voice low and husky.
As Cassius stepped out of the room, Rory's eyes scanned the space, searching for any clues. And that's when she saw it - a small, hidden panel in the wall, partially concealed by a nearby vase.
Rory's heart skipped a beat as she realized the significance of the panel. It was a secret door, one that led to a hidden room.
Without hesitation, Rory pushed the vase aside and pressed the hidden button. The panel slid open, revealing a narrow staircase that led down into darkness.
Rory's heart pounded in her chest as she hesitated at the top of the stairs. She knew that she shouldn't be doing this, that she should be leaving, not exploring the depths of Cassius's estate.
But something about the hidden room drew her in, something that made her feel like she was on the verge of uncovering a deep, dark secret.
Taking a deep breath, Rory began to make her way down the stairs, her heart pounding in her chest.
As she reached the bottom, she saw a figure waiting for her in the shadows.
"Welcome, Rory," the figure said, its voice low and menacing. "I've been waiting for you."
Rory's heart skipped a beat as she realized who the figure was.
It was Elijah.
.
Rory's eyes widened in surprise as she saw Elijah standing in the shadows. She had expected Cassius to be the one waiting for her, not Elijah.
"What are you doing here?" Rory asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Elijah stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with intensity. "I'm here to help you," he said, his voice low and husky. "I know what Cassius is planning, and I'm not going to let him get away with it."
Rory's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with questions. What did Elijah know about Cassius's plans? And why was he suddenly trying to help her?
But before she could ask any questions, Elijah reached out and grabbed her arm. "We have to get out of here," he said, his voice urgent. "Now."
Rory hesitated for a moment, unsure of what to do. But then she nodded, her heart pounding in her chest.
As they made their way back up the stairs, Rory couldn't shake off the feeling that she was walking into a trap. She didn't know what Elijah's true motives were, or what Cassius was planning.
But she knew one thing for sure - she was in grave danger, and she had to get out of there as fast as she could.
As they reached the top of the stairs, Rory saw Cassius standing in the doorway, his eyes blazing with anger.
"Where do you think you're going?" he spat, his voice low and menacing.
Rory's heart skipped a beat as she saw the look in Cassius's eyes. She knew that she was in trouble, and she had to think fast if she was going to get out of there alive.
But before she could say anything, Elijah stepped forward, his eyes locked on Cassius's.
"I think we're going to leave," he said, his voice calm and confident. "And I think you're going to let us."
Cassius's eyes narrowed, his face twisted with rage. But then, to Rory's surprise, he nodded.
"Fine," he spat. "Leave. But this isn't over."
As Rory and Elijah turned to leave, Rory couldn't shake off the feeling that she was walking into a trap. She didn't know what Cassius was planning, or what Elijah's true motives were.
But she knew one thing for sure - she was in grave danger, and she had to get out of there as fast as she could.
