Chapter 3: The Mysterious Patron
Rory arrived at the gallery, her nerves fluttering like butterflies in her stomach. She had no idea who the potential buyer was or what they wanted. All she knew was that the gallery owner, Mrs. Jenkins, had assured her it was a legitimate opportunity.
As Rory entered the gallery, she spotted Mrs. Jenkins chatting with a tall, imposing figure. He stood with his back to Rory, his broad shoulders and chiseled physique evident even from a distance.
"Rory, darling!" Mrs. Jenkins exclaimed, hurrying over to greet her. "I'm so glad you could make it. This is Mr... Blackwood."
The mysterious figure turned, his piercing gaze locking onto Rory's. She felt a jolt of electricity run through her body as their eyes met.
"Mr. Blackwood," Rory repeated, trying to sound calm despite her racing heart.
Cassius Blackwood's smile was enigmatic, his eyes glinting with amusement. "A pleasure, Miss Wynter. Your art is... captivating."
Rory's cheeks flushed as Cassius's gaze roamed over her. She felt exposed, vulnerable, and yet, she couldn't help but be drawn to the charismatic stranger.
As they chatted, Rory discovered that Cassius was a wealthy collector, seeking to acquire a piece for his private collection. He was charming, witty, and seemed genuinely interested in her art.
But Rory couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to Cassius than met the eye. His intensity, his piercing gaze, it all seemed to hint at a deeper, darker nature.
As the evening drew to a close, Cassius extended an invitation to Rory. "I'd like to discuss the details of the sale further, Miss Wynter. Would you be available to meet me at my estate tomorrow evening?"
Rory hesitated, unsure if she should trust this enigmatic stranger. But something about Cassius drew her in, making her want to know more.
"I'll be there," Rory said finally, her voice barely above a whisper.
Cassius's smile was triumphant, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "I'll send a car for you at 8 pm. Don't be late, Miss Wynter."
As Rory watched Cassius depart, she felt a shiver run down her spine. She had a feeling that her life was about to change forever.
