Chapter 11: The Unexpected Arrival
As Cassius and Rory sat down to dinner, the sound of the doorbell echoed through the hallway. Cassius's eyes narrowed, his expression annoyed.
"Excuse me for a moment," he said, pushing back his chair.
Rory nodded, her eyes watching as Cassius strode out of the room.
As Cassius answered the door, he was surprised to see a tall, dark-haired man standing on the porch. The man's eyes locked onto Cassius's, a hint of a smile playing on his lips.
"Cassius," the man said, his voice low and smooth. "It's been a while."
Cassius's expression darkened, his eyes narrowing. "Elijah," he spat. "What are you doing here?"
Elijah's smile grew wider, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I heard you were entertaining a guest," he said, his voice dripping with innuendo. "I thought I'd drop by and introduce myself."
Cassius's eyes flashed with anger, but he knew better than to let Elijah get under his skin. Instead, he stepped aside, allowing Elijah to enter.
As Elijah strode into the room, his eyes locked onto Rory's. Cassius could see the interest sparking in his eyes, the attraction that he couldn't quite hide.
And Cassius knew that he had a problem. Elijah was a rival, a man who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted. And what he wanted was Rory.
