Chapter 14: RecoveryThey reached Alonzo’s apartment building in the pre-dawn light, shambling from Vera’s SUV and into the building. Garner was so weak that he had to be helped up the stairs by Venn. Dimly, he was aware that Alonzo was being carried in front of him by Valk and Yaro.
But at last, they were through the apartment door, and Alonzo was taken into the bedroom. Garner struggled when he realized he was being taken to the living room.
“No!” he murmured. “With Alonzo!”
