In 2010, Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang Si-hyuk expressed interest in forming a hip hop group with RM (Kim Namjoon); As a result, BTS was formed. At the time, Namjoon was well-known in Seoul's music scene as an underground rapper. BTS was originally supposed to be a hip hop group. But, due to low sales of hip hop albums, Bang Si-hyuk changed his plans. From the fact that the album sold less, he thinks that if he goes a little different way instead of going towards hip hop, maybe it will be more marketable and audience friendly. He decided to make BTS a band that was a little different from the traditional and highly structured South Korean idol group concept. Where members are individuals rather than being part of a traditional collective and are free to express their individuality. [3][4] Auditions were held in 2010, with plans to start the band the following year.[5][6] With that goal in mind, after being selected in the auditions, the future members of BTS began living together in a dorm. They practiced up to 15 hours a day with the dream of debuting as a band. After long practice and training, BTS performed for the first time in 2013. Which was, on a very small scale and to a small audience within the industry.[7]
