Riddle 1
Elevator
There was a man who lived on the 14th floor of a high-rise apartment building in New Hampshire. One night, after a very long party, he came home very late and drunk. His friend dropped him outside the building, making sure he was okay and left in a hurry. He somehow managed to walk to the elevator and pressed the button to call it, the elevator arrived on the floor, the doors opened and he got in. He pushed the button for his floor. The button lit up, the doors closed and the elevator began to ascend.
Just then, the button for the 8th floor lit up.
"I guess someone else is getting on..." he thought to himself.
A few seconds later, he realized something.
He started hitting the stop button nonstop. The elevator came to a halt on the 3rd floor. As soon as the doors opened, the man jumped out of the elevator, raced down the stairs, and ran outside the building. He kept running without looking back till he reached a park. He walked inside and lied down on the grass to catch his breath. He could not stop shaking. He decided not to go back to his apartment that night. He called up his friend and told him what had happened to him. Upon hearing everything the friend just laughed it off and said jokingly that he was just drunk and he should go back home and after that, he hung up the phone. The man still decided not to go back to his apartment that night. He booked into a hotel nearby to spend the night. He could not sleep the whole night thinking about what had happened. The sun came up and he finally decided that he was going to go back home. He walked back to the apartment building, standing outside he was wondering if he really was just too drunk the previous night to think straight. Upon deciding that could be the case, He again walked to the elevator and got in.
Riddle 2
Diary
My wife and I met after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. My family had to evacuate to Morgan City, Louisiana, to live with my grandmother. The second night in the city, some of the boys from my new high school were gracious enough to take me to dinner with them. As we were walking into the restaurant, she was walking out with some of her friends. Even though it’s been over 10 years, I can still remember every detail of that moment. She was wearing a red dress and had those beautiful dreamy eyes that were glowing with her smile. she was the most beautiful girl I had seen. I stopped to talk to her and introduced myself. Funny how I did not know that I was shaking the hand of my future wife.
In December 2005, She was singing in a musical raising money for Katrina victims. I went there to watch her that night. After the play, I offered to take Her out to eat for a job well done… the first of many dates. I had a rose waiting for her on the seat of her car.
I always knew I really, really liked being with her. We were so happy together. Somebody asked me once if I could see myself sitting on a porch with her when I’m 75 and would we still have something to talk about. Without even batting an eye, I said, ’Yeah, absolutely,’ and he said, ’Then she’s the one for you.’
We got married in my senior year of college. I think I realized I’d marry her even in high school — I was young and romantic and thought she was perfect in every way. Marrying her was the single greatest thing that ever happened to me. My life would not have been the same without her. There was nothing I was afraid more of than the thought of losing her.
After a few years of marriage, we had a beautiful daughter. We were very happy. One day we were out grocery shopping in the supermarket when my wife suddenly collapsed. I called an ambulance and we rushed her to a hospital. They took her to the emergency room and she was admitted. The doctor told me that a few tests were to be done to figure out what had happened. I was impatiently waiting for the results and we finally got them after a few days. The doctor told me that she was diagnosed with blood cancer and she did not have much time left to live. I just stood there frozen, tears rolling down my cheeks. My legs gave up and I came crashing down to my knees. It was like the time had stopped and I wanted it to stay like that. I did not want to lose her. He asked me if I wanted to tell her this myself or I wanted the doctors to do it. I told her everything later that day and she said that she wanted to go back home and wanted to spend whatever time she had left with me and our son. She passed away in April this year. For the past four months, it's just been me and my son. I don't know what I'd do without him. He's my only reason to live. We both miss my wife so much. Today, I was rummaging through some drawers in the bedroom and I found a diary. The handwriting inside is definitely my wife's, but she didn't write very much. The few entries she did make are very strange. I flipped to the end to see what she was writing just before she died. This is what she wrote:
02/15: My life with you had just begun.
02/21: I was made to be with you.
03/12: Death cannot separate us.
04/13: I will never let you go.
04/21: I don't have much time.
05/06: Do you understand?
I keep reading it over and over but I can't figure out what she was trying to tell me.
