Chapter 4

1066 Words
Riddle 1 Dead Body I grew up in a country town to the north of Delaware. It was one of those towns that you wouldn't have heard of even if you lived in the city just next to it. Yes. I lived in one of those places. It was just a small boring town with a population of around fifteen hundred people. A town where almost everybody knew almost everybody, where news traveled fast and died even faster. We only had a church, a gas station, a bar, and a few shops. By the age of 18 every kid including myself, was dying to leave this godforsaken town. The most exciting things that used to happen here were the fire shows at the town hall and the kids running around the town egging people's cars and vandalizing their houses. This year just like any other was also the same... until the winters came. This was when strange things started happening around the town. Kids started going missing, never to be seen again. Some people were saying that a gang was k********g the kids to sell their organs in the black market, some said that a psychopath was on the loose and some even said that it was happening because of a curse cast by a witch set free by a cult. There were as many theories as there were people in the town. This was the only thing on the news for six months. Almost every week a kid would go missing. The notice board at the town hall was full of missing-posters. Everyone felt helpless, worried, and scared. People had stopped coming out of their houses at night. The schools had closed. A curfew was imposed by the authorities. But even after all this the kids hadn't stopped getting missing. Even the police weren't able to do anything. Months passed and the winters came to an end, and with that disappearances also stopped. It has been two years since then and the police still haven't been able to find anything about what was happening in the town. Just this morning I was watching the news when the house I used to live in as a child came up on the screen. It was a breaking news story. They were saying that the dead body of a girl was found buried in the back yard. I was so shocked, I was freaking out and I just run downstairs. I grabbed my phone to call my dad immediately to tell him about what I had seen on the news. "Dad, are you watching the news?" I asked. "No," he replied. "Why?" "Our old house is on the news, the police found a dead body buried in the backyard," I replied. "What?" he replied. "Are you serious? Wow, that's scary!" "Yeah, it is scary," I said. "What if it was there back when we were living in the house. We could have been walking back and forth in the garden, all the time unaware that there was a corpse beneath our feet. It freaks me out just to think about it." "Me too," he said. "I never noticed a thing while we were living there, but it's a scary thought. Of course, I feel bad for the parents." "Yeah, I do too. They must have been worried sick." "I wonder who buried her there," he said. "It gives me the creeps just thinking about it." "Hey dad, could she be one of those kids that had gone missing?" I asked. "Could be, I'm not sure son" My Dad replied. "Well the police are investigating it now," I said. "They'll probably get to the bottom of it eventually." "I hope so," said my dad. He asked me not to think or worry about it too much and asked me to take care and then hung up the phone. After that, I just went back to my room. I was lying down on my bed looking up at the ceiling, I could not stop thinking about it, then I realized something. Riddle 2 Argument  This morning I woke up again with them shouting at each other. I could hear their voices, muffled by the walls. Taking a deep breath, I stepped out of my room, rubbing my eyes still holding on to my friend momo the monkey. I saw my older sister sitting on the windowsill in the hall, she looked at me and smiled, I smiled back at her and continued to where our parents were, following their voices. I saw them rushing out of the kitchen towards the drawing-room. Their voices becoming louder. I heard my mother crying and falling onto her knees, I heard my father grabbing her by her hair and dragging her to the hall, I heard her begging him to stop and to spare her and my father taking out his belt to make her behave like a good girl like he always did to my sister and me, so we would always be his good girls. I looked at my mother asking her to be a good girl like me so daddy would stop. I looked at my sister and I could see tears rolling down her cheeks, she turned around to give me a smile through her teary eyes and then she stepped outside. My mother saw my sister leave, screaming her name she ran towards her pushing my father back. She saw her outside and screamed her name again almost choking, she fell down on her knees, my father ran towards my mother but she followed my sister outside. And now daddy is coming for me, But I am his good girl and he loves me.
