Chapter Nine A Day at the Office The next morning after breakfast the two women left the apartment and headed for the office. As they left the building Victoria told Linda to walk behind her and carry her briefcase, and then began to walk at her habitually brisk pace. It would have made an amusing sight for an onlooker—the tall, grim-faced dark-haired lawyer in her navy blue suit imperiously striding down the block; behind her the little pink-suited blonde girl lugging the heavy briefcase with her short legs scampering to keep up.
