Chapter 2

MEGAN The next day came, and I prepared for the interview. I left the house and took a taxi to the company. The ride was a 15-minute drive to the company. I got out and paid for the taxi ride before it zoomed off. I turned around and faced the huge building in front of me. I let out a breath. It is just as big as the one yesterday. I have only got 4 buildings that had this many floors since I started my first job hunting. Time for some self-encouragement. "You can do this, Megan. This is not yesterday, this is a new day. New day, new opportunities. This is different. They are all not the same." I let out another sharp breath before walking in through the glass doors. I stepped into the building and made my way to the receptionist. She was just as kind as most of them and called someone to lead me to the way. I was gestured to the seat on the chair by the wall as I waited. A few minutes later, a lady greeted me before turning to the receptionist who nodded at her. She was a sweet lady and was a complete opposite of the rude lady I met yesterday. I followed her into the elevator, which didn't take as long before it was getting to us. We successfully got to the floor, and I was given a number, 53 with my name on it even though I came early. There were obviously 51 people seated and waiting. Time slowly went by as people kept coming and going. It was finally my turn and I got in. I was asked a few questions which I was impressed by myself as I answered well. But the remain half of the questions weren't going well as they questioned my educational life, experience in this field and so on. I could tell the 5 panel members would not approve of me at this point. "We'll get back to you. You may leave." I sighed and got up from the chair placed at the center of the room. I made my way towards the door but just as I was about to open the door, I had stopped midair. Am I going to leave like this? Yet again? I let out a sharp breath and turned back around. I walked back to the panel members. "Will you really get back to me?" The only lady there turned to the men before turning back to me. "If you're accepted," She replied. "And if I'm not?" "We'll let you know over an email." "Do you think I will be selected for the job?" "As we said earlier, we would let you know." I could sense the annoyance in her tone. It's crystal clear that I won't be. I scoffed, "I won't be accepted. Why?" They turned to one another and nodded before turning back to me. "Not only do you have no experience in this field, but you have not yet completed your tertiary institution. It was stated in the qualification requirement that we needed a college graduate. I'm sorry Miss Carter, but there is a high possibility that you may not be accepted." "My parents went bankrupt. They didn't have enough money for me to complete school! I want to complete school! It wasn't my choice, okay. And experience? How will I get experience when you guys keep rejecting me? Where will I get it?" Since I wasn't getting the job, I could as well pour out my frustration on them. One of the men stood up. "Miss, may you please leave, or we will have to call the security to help you with that." "Sir, I will take my leave. But why are you all so mean and cruel?! Why is society like this? I can play a good role as a secretary without a degree! It's not that hard!" "Miss, please take your - Sir." He suddenly cut his words short and turned towards the door as they all stood up. Sir? I quickly turned around. A man stepped in and closed the door behind him. He was just as good-looking as the one I saw yesterday. Wait, is he another jerk? "What's going on here? I could hear everything outside the door." He questioned in such a calm, cool tone. "She won't leave the office sir." The man who wanted to dismiss me spoke. Ugh, he really hates my guts, doesn't he? "I am sorry, sir, for being such a bother in your office. It wasn't my intention. "Meet me in my office." He demanded and turned around, making his way out of the office. I was shocked. My anxiety started building up again. In his office? Why? Am I going to get arrested? Fined? Just as he was about to walk out, he stopped and turned around, staring straight at me. "Now," He stated. I cleared my throat and nodded. I began making my way out of the office with him. Stupid! Stupid! Me! What was I thinking about creating a scene?! Ugh! Can the ground just open up and swallow my entire existence? We soon got into his office and he walked behind his desk. He took a sit and gestured his hand to the chair in front of his desk. I took a sit as indicated. "Why were you making a huge scene in my company?" I cleared my thraot. He looks scary right now. Why is he looking scary? "I...I.." I stuttered. I wanted to slap myself on the face for stuttering. What happened to the brave girl? I cleared my throat once again. "I wanted to explain myself?" Does that make sense? It does, right? It should. It has to. "Why is that necessary?" He questioned with such a captivating serious look on his face. "Well, I could tell I wouldn't be picked because I wasn't able to complete my degree, so I decided to explain why I wasn't able to complete it." "What is the reason?" I sighed. "My parents went bankrupt, and I didn't have enough money to do it." "Why didn't you start from small? Work in a resturant? Mall?" Here comes another sigh. "I tried all that but to no avail. They either have enough or don't earn enough to employ another helper." "Do you have experience in this field?" I shook my head. "No," I stated and looked away. "How will I when no company accepts me" I mattered underneath my breath. There was a sudden silence in the room. I turned back to him only to find him staring at me intensely. I quickly looked away and stare around his office. Is that a good stare or a bad stare? Is he planning to let me go or still let me pay for my actions? "Again." I turned back to him. "I am really, really sorry for my actions. I just couldn't control it. I had to let it out, you know?" "By disturbing the peace of my company?" He questioned. "I'm sorry." "You may now leave." I was just about to thank him for letting me go until the next words left his mouth. "You begin work tomorrow." "Wait, what? I'm hired?" "Congratulations, you have been hired." He said, and this was the first time I'd seen a smile on his face." "Ah - I'm sorry. Won't happen again." I quickly apologized. I was beaming with joy. He actually hired me! I quickly stood up from the chair and set it back. "Thanks again sir. You have a beautiful smile. I'll see you tomorrow." I said excitedly, and made my way out of his office. I quickly rushed out of the building and as soon as I stepped outside, I let out a scream. "Ah! I got it! Finally!" I jumped and jogged happily on my way to find a taxi. Wait, I didn't get his name. Whatever, I'll just do a quick research on the company and him later today. Who knew I would have gotten the job? Camila had to hear this. I can't keep it any longer. .
