MEGAN Just after I told her the whole story, "Ah!" She yelled. "Ah!" I yelled after. "Ah!" She yelled again and I yelled again. She jumped on me and hugged me tightly. I hugged her just as tight. Yes, I went straight to her café. Why should I hold it any longer? Nothing can describe how excited I was. "Even after what you did?!" "I know right, I was just as shocked. I actually thought he was going to be a jerk just like that arrogant jerk." Yep, she already knows about the jerkass of a boss I met yesterday. "Why would you think that?" "He was also a Greek like him. I have already concluded after what happened yesterday that all Greeks are mean, rude, selfish stone heads." "So you have a change of mind about Greeks now." I nodded. "Yep, definitely." She smiled and continued preparing the coffee for a customer. "Ugh!" She groaned. "What's wrong?" She lifts the paper coffee cup. "I need to restock." **** Camila and I both lifted our wine glasses. This was the cheapest wine we could get. We had to celebrate this day. "To Megan's new job," Camila said before we clicked our glasses together and drank it in. "I promise to cherish this job like no other!" "Yep, toast to that as well." **** I started work today, and I was sent a message about what time I should arrive. I came in 30 minutes earlier. The receptionist said I should wait in the lobby as I do not know any area in this building. 25 minutes later, more employees started arriving and soon. Carla, the lady that took me to the interview and sent me the message, arrived. "Good morning." She opened her arms with a bright smile for me. I smiled right back and hugged her. " "Good morning." "You came early." She stated. "Yep, I had nothing better to do." I had a hard time sleeping all night thinking about what to expect, how people would treat me, what tasks would be given to me, and the research I did on all I needed to know. I did research mostly on the boss as I was curious about the generous man. His name is Christoph Schneider. He also had two siblings, a younger sister and an older brother, but I didn't go dip into the siblings. I just focused on Christoph - I mean Mr. Schneider. I found out this company was handed over to him by his father. His mom is a well-known model in the magazines and fashion shows, even in her old age. His Dad is German while his mum is American, so he and his siblings are half German and American. Cool, right? I did my homework. She giggled. "Follow me." I nodded and followed. We went up the elevator together, and soon we were on the same floor as the boss's office. We walked towards the door right next to the boss and got in. I stared around the office. It was simple and nice. It had a black and golden colored artwork on the wall. "You like?" Carla turned to me and asked. I nodded. "I love it." "Glad." Her smile was so angelic. "So I have work to start up with. All you have to do now is wait for Mr. Schneider to arrive." "Okay, thanks." I smiled. "And, if you need anything, let me know. I'm just next door. " Thankfully, she was. It would be easy to locate her. I was worried about that. She left the office, well my office. I made my way to the chair and took my seat. "Wow." it was so comfy. About thirty minutes later, my telephone started ringing. I jolted up from the unexpected noise and quickly picked it up. "Hello-" "Come to my office. " I gasped. When did he arrive? I forgot to ask Carla how I would know when he arrived. I was quick on my feet and sprinted out of my office. I went next door and knocked carefully. The door is probably so expensive. it should be treated with care. He moved his eyes away from his paperwork and turned to me. "Seeing that you don't have my coffee in hand, I'm guessing Ms. Fein has not shown you around and told you what you are expected to do." "No, she hasn't." He nodded and picked up his telephone, pressed a few numbers and took it to his ear. "My office, now." he ended the call. We both waited for Carla. I was starting to feel awkward because of the silence, but he was as calm as still water in a glass. Why is it so quiet? Where are the singing birds when you need them? I thought Carla was just an office away. Why is she taking so long? Just when I was about to open my mouth to break through the awkward silence, Carla walked in. As she walked past me, I noticed the cup of hot coffee in her hands, and placed it carefully on his table. "You haven't given her a tour of the building and given her full details on what she was expected to do?" "Sorry boss, I'll do that now." "Be done in 20 minutes." "That's enough." She nodded and suddenly grabbed my hand with hers, out of his office. "I'm sorry I didn't do the tour with you earlier. I was so occupied. Thankfully, you are here now." She smiled at me, "I'm glad I would be of help." I was shown around the company. She told me all I needed to know and what I needed to do. That also included making coffee for the boss every morning. We made a few side jokes as she told me everything that was important. I already had a pile of work to do, and I was low-key excited. This is better than being bored all day at home. After I was shown around, I finally settled in and began to understand Mr. Schneider's schedule for the week. Hours went by quicker than I thought. It wasn't as hard as they seemed to make it. I did all the work I needed to do until it was time to leave. I came out and just as I was passing Mr. Schneider's office, I noticed he was still working. I decided to say goodbye to him. I knocked on his door and heard a feint come in. I got in, and his eyes moved from his laptop to me. "Done for the day?" I nodded. "Yes, Mr. Schneider." He leaned back in his chair. "How was your first day at work?" I smiled. "It was pretty good. It isn't as hard as I was expecting." "Well, you weren't given as much work because it was your first day, but you should be expecting more tomorrow." Wait, what? That was a lot of work I did today. I just decided not to complain and accept my fate. He suddenly smirked. "I was joking. You should've seen your face. It was priceless." I nervously chuckled. Thank goodness it was a joke. "You really got me there." "I know, you face said it all." I nodded with my lips in a thin line. "You may take your leave." He gestured his hands. ***** Days went by, soon weeks, then months. I can proudly say I have been working here for 3 months now. I have gotten used to the environment, workload and employees. Most of the employees judged me at first because of the scene I created on my interview day. But soon they got to know the real me and understand where I was coming from. Some males like Gary and Stiles had tried flirting with me, but they got the hint that I wasn't anywhere close to heading that path with them. Gary lay back and stopped chatting with me. Well, he ghosted me, and he hasn't stopped for 2 months now, while Stiles said we can settle as friends. Carla has also been a friend I could talk to at anytime and my lunch partner. She has a fiancé who they are expected to get married in a month. Mr. Schneider and I have always kept it professionally. He made a few side jokes and that's it. He was quite caring as well. There was a time when I got sick, and he gave me an entire 2 weeks off. Even though 1 week was all I needed, he still insisted. I wouldn't like any other boss besides him. Right now, it was past the time I should be headed home, but I was really determined to finish the work for today, even though I still got time to finish it off tomorrow. I suddenly heard a soft knock on my door. "Come in." The Mr. Schneider walked in. I quickly stood up on my feet. "Sir, is there something I can help you with?" "No, I noticed your lights were still on." He said while walking closer to my table. He picked up the top paper I was working on. "Isn't this due on Thursday?" Today is Tuesday. "Yes, it is. I just wanted to get most of it done before I left work." He nodded and dropped the paper. "That's enough work for today. Don't strain yourself." "Okay, sir. I'll leave once I'm done with just this one page," I said. He nodded and gestured his hand to my chair. I took my seat. I was taken aback when he suddenly pulled the chair in front of my table and sat down comfortably. I stared at him with confusion written all over my face. He smirked at the look that met my gaze. "I'll be your driver today."
