Chapter NineBack in the car, the engine roars to life, and with it Layne Staley crooning about Jesus Christ and denying your maker. Feeling like an escaped prisoner with no shame, I max out the volume for “Man in a Box” and peel wheels out of the parking lot like there might actually be someone trying to catch me. In reality, Ruth is probably still giving Big Mama and Scott an earful of hostile nonsense, and that brownie is likely going on it’s third hour of being untouched. What a waste.
