Morning came much too quickly for me on the day that my men and I would be setting off for the Mana Mountains, uncertain of how long we would be gone. The little thing lay nestled against me, fast asleep. I had kept her up most of the night, so she was probably exhausted. However, I couldn’t sleep a wink. Instead, I sat up watching her as she lay oblivious to all around her. A few times, her face contorted in what looked like pain, but after a few moments, it went back to normal.
