A Ridiculous Marriage
An arm lay across Carla’s slender waist.
She rolled over like a cat. A second later, she sensed something. Her beautiful eyes flew open, and her pretty little face went pale.
“Ah!!!” Carla shot up in bed, grabbed the blanket, and wrapped herself tightly in it. Her face was cold as she demanded, “Sam! What are you doing here?”
When she saw the naked man and the intimate scratch marks, Carla’s face went from white to red, then cold and pale again.
Sam was woken by the noise. A sharp glint flashed through his deep black eyes, then quickly disappeared.
The man got up with a frightened look. He squinted, grabbed his glasses, and put them on, hiding his unreadable eyes behind the thick black frames. “Miss Warner, I… I don’t know what’s going on either.”
Carla’s hands clenched the blanket until they turned white. Her head throbbed, and for a moment she couldn’t remember what had happened last night. She only remembered that she seemed to have gotten drunk at the engagement party.
Yesterday had been her engagement party, and today…
Before Carla could recover from the absurdity of it all, she heard banging on the door.
“Carla, are you in there? Didn’t we agree to go shopping together today?”
“Mrs. Grayson is waiting in the living room. I’m coming in…”
Instantly, Carla’s mind buzzed, and her whole body went cold. Before she could react, the door was already pushed open.
It was as if that person had been ready outside the door all along.
Marlowe pushed the door open. When she saw the ridiculous scene in the room, disbelief filled her face. She covered her mouth in shock and screamed loudly.
“Ah! You… you two… how could you…”
Everything happened too suddenly, catching Carla completely off guard. Before she could figure out why the family driver was in her bed, Marlowe had already burst in.

In the Warner living room, the atmosphere was frozen. Carla knelt on the floor, her eyes blurry with tears.
“Dad, I don’t know what happened either. Last night, I…”
A slap landed hard across Carla’s face. Desmond Warner said through gritted teeth, “You’re still making excuses! How could I have raised such a shameless daughter? You’ve completely disgraced the Warner family!”
Sitting beside him, Celeste Warner looked worried and quickly tried to soothe him. “Honey, don’t get so angry. Maybe Carla has a reason. Let’s talk this through slowly.”
Then her tone shifted, her face full of worry. “Sigh, it’s just the engagement with the Graysons… I’m afraid…”
Desmond’s anger flared higher. He was furious. “Not angry? How can I not be angry? The Warner family is about to be ruined by this girl!”
“The company is in trouble right now. We’re relying on the Graysons to get through it. And you? You just got engaged yesterday, and last night you slept with another man! Would you only be happy if the Warner family and Everline were destroyed?”
Kneeling on the floor, Carla bit her lower lip hard, her face pale. Of course she didn’t want Everline to be ruined. Everline was what her mother had left behind, the result of her mother’s hard work when she was young.
That was why she had agreed to the marriage alliance with the Graysons.
Taking a deep breath, Carla wiped away her tears and looked at Desmond with stubborn eyes. “I’ll go explain everything to Bennett Grayson.”
“Explain? How are you going to explain? Go tell Bennett Grayson straight to his face that you cheated on him?”
“Maybe you can live with that kind of shame, but I can’t! If you dare mess up the company’s deal, then get out of the Warner family. I’ll pretend I never had a daughter like you.”
Carla looked up in disbelief, huge tears sliding down her face.
“Dad, don’t be angry. What’s done is done. We can’t undo it. We can only find a way to solve it. Please don’t yell at Carla.”
Marlowe put on the look of a caring older sister and helped Carla up, pain in her expression. A calculating gleam flashed through her eyes. “Come on, don’t kneel anymore. Your knees are all red.”
“It’s just Carla’s reputation…”
Beside her, Celeste chimed in. “If we want to protect Carla’s reputation, the only way is to make the two of them get married.”
Married? Carla’s fan-like lashes trembled.
Before Carla could say anything, Desmond roared from the sofa, “Married? We’d have to see if he’s even willing to marry a shameless woman like her.”
“I’m willing to marry Miss Warner.”
The man who had been standing silently nearby, a cold sneer flashing through his mind, suddenly raised his head.
Like a dream, when Carla walked out of the county clerk’s office with the marriage certificate in her hand, she still felt that everything that had happened today was unreal.
She glanced at the man standing beside her. Sam, her father’s driver. Now he was her husband.
The man was tall, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. His eyes were serious, and he spoke little, like a wooden post. But his face—sharp features, deep eyes—looked as if it had been carved by heaven.
“Let’s go home.”
Carla took a deep breath and forced a smile. What had to be faced had to be faced.
Besides, she didn’t want to marry that Grayson heir, Bennett Grayson, anyway.
“Miss Warner, which home are we going to?”
Sam’s deep eyes were hidden behind the thick glasses. He glanced at the marriage certificate in his hand and casually tucked it into the pocket over his chest. His voice was low and deep.
Carla was stunned for a moment, then realized she was married now and had to go home with Sam.
“Let’s go back to the Warner house first.” She wasn’t ready to live with Sam yet.
The man said nothing, then strode off to get the car, leaving Carla behind in just a few steps.
Carla watched his straight back and sighed softly. He really was a block of wood. She couldn’t help but feel anxious about her future married life.
The car stopped at the Warner house. The man got out first, walked around to the other side, and opened the door for Carla. “Miss Warner, we’re here.”
“From now on, just call me by my name. Don’t call me Miss Warner anymore.” Carla frowned and gave the order without room for argument.
The man bowed his head slightly, his voice obedient. “Okay, Miss Warner.”
Carla was annoyed. She glared at him and muttered under her breath, “Such a block of wood.”
Too tired to waste words on this block of wood, Carla strode forward. Before she reached the living room door, she saw one of the housekeepers carrying a familiar bag and throwing it straight out.
That was her bag!
Carla stepped forward, her delicate brows knitting together. “What are you doing?”
The woman looked up and saw that Carla had returned. Her expression turned awkward, and she unconsciously rubbed her hands together. “Miss, this is Mr. Warner’s order. He told us to take all your things… out.”
The housekeeper didn’t have the heart to tell Carla the exact words, but Carla understood anyway. Her face visibly fell, and hurt and sadness flooded her heart.
Biting her lower lip, Carla said stubbornly, “I want to see my father.”
