Chapter One: Big Rabbit
With a loud bang, Wu Xiaoming shook his groggy head. "Wow, that's a huge rabbit!" he exclaimed, only to freeze as he realized he wasn't speaking his familiar Chinese, but rather a gibberish he couldn't identify as any particular dialect.
A gigantic hare lay beside him, covered in bruises and oozing fresh blood, its pungent scent assaulting his senses. Its sharp claws narrowly missed gouging his eyes.
What was happening? Wu Xiaoming could only recall chasing after his wife on his motorcycle. Then, a car came out of nowhere and hit him, and he remembered being crushed repeatedly.
This wasn't just another accident—it was a fatal traffic collision. All he heard before passing out was, "I hit him... he's probably dead. What do we do?" That was his wife, Lu Qinying.
"Should I run over him a few more times to make sure he's really dead?" That was an elderly man's voice.
"I hit him, what should I do?" his wife's voice again.
"He's dead, isn't he?" A stranger's voice.
"I hit him, he's not moving, what should I do?" "Who is it? Oh, Lu Lu, right? Your husband got hit by you. Come with me. Hahaha,"...
Wu Xiaoming's consciousness gradually faded, and he could no longer hear any voices.
"My name is Wu Xiaoming, quite a funny name—I wonder what my parents were thinking. I'm just an ordinary guy, like everyone else. Went to school, graduated, got a job, and a few years later, opened a small shop. Little did I know, everything changed after that.
Next door was a beauty salon owned by Lu Qinying. A single lady who somehow ended up with me, perhaps as they say, 'men chase women, mountains of obstacles; women chase men, layers of veils.'
After marriage, I thought we could live a quiet life, but everything changed, especially after selling the shop. Maybe it's true what they say—money changes everything. Everything that happened later was just like any other story, but this isn't fiction; it's reality!"
Very miserably, I thought I had met a rich and beautiful woman, only to realize it was all a trap. Then, there was the traffic accident, and that was the end of it.
"Kid, scared stiff? Get up quickly, we must reach the campsite before dark," a rumbling male voice said, and Wu Xiaoming found that he completely understood.
"Okay, Uncle Di," Wu Xiaoming replied, and then he hesitated, realizing it was just a reflex.
Wu Xiaoming staggered to his feet and carefully examined the familiar yet unfamiliar man called Uncle Di: he was bare-chested, wearing a blue-striped beastskin belt around his waist, tied with an unknown animal-hide skirt. He had long, flowing hair and deep, sharp eyes, with a perfect physique and lion-like mane.
Wu Xiaoming glanced around and saw about thirty people dressed in beastskin skirts, twelve sturdy adult men, and the rest were women and children, all with sharp, beast-like gazes.
Uncle Di effortlessly hoisted the giant rabbit onto his shoulder as if it were as light as straw.
This rabbit was as big as a calf and Uncle Di's action made Wu Xiaoming scrutinize him carefully. Standing over two meters tall, with bulging muscles, he looked incredibly powerful, but what was most unbelievable was his handsome face, even more perfect than a model's in later years.
Wu Xiaoming observed the thirty or so people around him. The adult men were over two meters tall, the women were around 1.8 meters tall, and the children were about his height, around 1.6 meters tall. What was astonishing was that whether men, women, or children, they were all exceptionally beautiful.
"Are you okay?" a soft voice said, and Wu Xiaoming realized he had somehow wandered into the crowd of women and children. They were all so beautiful, like doll-like beauties, with clear, bright eyes, slender willow eyebrows, long eyelashes fluttering slightly, flawless fair skin with a hint of blush, and delicate lips as rosy as rose petals.
Compared to the beauties of later generations, those so-called once-in-a-millennium beauties would probably pale in comparison. Even the Moon Palace's Chang'e would probably look like this.
"Are you okay?" a delicate hand touched Wu Xiaoming's head, bringing him back to reality.
"No... no... I'm fine." Passing through two lives, and still feeling like a virgin. Wu Xiaoming secretly despised himself.
"Chang'e, people, hurry up and catch up." A beautiful middle-aged woman glanced deeply at Wu Xiaoming, feeling that something was different about him, as if he had changed.
"Okay, Mother," the little beauty said, grabbing Wu Xiaoming's hand and quickly following the crowd.
This is really Chang'e! Wu Xiaoming was completely dumbfounded. Did he travel back to ancient times? Isn't Chang'e a character from mythology? Buddha, Jesus, and the Heavenly Emperor! Can someone tell me where I have traveled to? Primitive society? The ancient times? The mythological era? He completely forgot that at this time, figures like Buddha, Jesus, and the Heavenly Emperor probably hadn't even appeared yet.
After about three or four hours of walking, when it was almost dark, they arrived at a cliff edge with several caves below. A winding river was about ten miles away, and beyond that was a forest with lush trees, the tallest of which were several hundred meters high, their tops piercing the clouds.
People set down their animal skins and other items, giving Wu Xiaoming a chance to carefully study the "rabbit" that had caused him to inhabit this body.
Two long ears, crimson eyes, a finger-length fang, sharp claws—everything indicated that this rabbit was definitely not a harmless herbivore.
"Fox-rabbit," Wu Xiaoming heard the name of this animal from Chang'e.
It is said to be a relatively gentle carnivorous animal. Wu Xiaoming felt dizzy. This is considered a gentle carnivorous animal? With fangs as long as a finger and claws almost the size of a human head, how big and ferocious must the non-gentle carnivorous animals be? His mind was completely confused.
"People, go and move the stones. Don't just chat with Chang'e," Uncle Di said when he saw Wu Xiaoming not doing anything but chatting with Chang'e.
"Um, okay, Uncle Di." Who gave me this name? Why couldn't my parents have given me a different name in my previous life? Now I'm simply called "person," as if I'm not human.
What's going on here? Wu Xiaoming effortlessly lifted a stone weighing over a hundred kilograms. Hmm, my strength has increased. It seems being a primitive man has its advantages. I should find some time to test how strong I really am.
After working diligently for a whole hour, the primitive people finally half-blocked the cave entrance, and by now, the sky had completely darkened.
"I'm so hungry!" Wu Xiaoming didn't feel anything else at the moment except hunger. After blocking the cave entrance, he only got a few fruits and over a pound of raw meat. After hesitating for a long time, he couldn't bring himself to eat it and finally gave the meat to E.
Wu Xiaoming now admired Baye's bravery wholeheartedly. Anything could be eaten, but he couldn't bring himself to eat even a bite of raw meat.
"Chang'e, why don't we make a fire? It's dark now, and a fire can provide warmth and protection against wild animals," Wu Xiaoming asked the beautiful and charming Chang'e. Perhaps it's human nature to like beauty. Since inhabiting this primitive body, besides exchanging a few words with Uncle Di, he tried to stay with Chang'e as much as possible, chatting and subtly probing about the world.
"Fire? What is fire?" Chang'e looked at him blankly.
Under the bright moonlight, Wu Xiaoming watched Chang'e eating raw meat bit by bit, while his own stomach rumbled uncontrollably. He was still hungry! The few unknown fruits were not enough to fill the gap between his teeth.
If they had fire, why were they still eating raw meat? It seemed that fire had not yet been created! "Fire, it's a red thing that emits smoke, can roast meat and cook food, and can also ward off wild beasts. I'll show you tomorrow when I create it," he felt as if he were back in his previous life, explaining to a child what this and that were.
"Oh," Chang'e responded, still not understanding what fire was, and handed a fruit to Wu Xiaoming. "Eat, I ate your meat, so have my fruit."
"I'm not hungry, really..." Before he could finish speaking, his stomach rumbled again. Damn, it was so embarrassing to lose face in front of a beauty, even though she was still young.
"Take it, I can't eat so much," Chang'e said, smiling secretly when she heard his stomach rumbling.
One smile outshines all the flowers in the Six Dynasties! Wu Xiaoming stared blankly at Chang'e's smiling face.
"What did you say, person?" Chang'e didn't hear what he said specifically and just stuffed a few fruits into his hand, then picked up the raw meat and started eating it bit by bit.
Wu Xiaoming was completely in awe of the primitive people's appetites. Of course, in the primitive society, food was distributed based on contributions. The twenty or so women and children only received a total of forty catties of raw meat, while that ferocious rabbit had three to four hundred catties of meat. In just a short while, only the skeleton was left. The rest was all devoured by the twelve adult men, leaving Wu Xiaoming staring at their flat, seven or eight-pack abdomens, completely speechless.
Where did all the food go? Wu Xiaoming couldn't help but curse inwardly, "Damn, they're all a bunch of gluttons!" The other women and children also stared at the twelve men eating and drinking heartily. It seemed like they weren't full either; they were all at the level of gluttons.
Wu Xiaoming wanted to ask why they didn't distribute the food according to need, but then he thought, tomorrow the adult men would surely go hunting. If they didn't eat enough, how would they have the strength? Were they going to feed the wild animals instead?
Watching everyone with mouths full of blood, Wu Xiaoming felt like he was back in his previous life watching zombies in "Zombies Unleashed." Immediately, he lost his appetite, but his stomach was still growling. "It seems I'm also at the glutton level," he mocked himself. Finally, when everyone finished eating and Uncle Di said a few words, Wu Xiaoming and the other women and children went to sleep deep inside the cave, while the adult men guarded the cave entrance.
"One sheep, two sheep, three sheep... one thousand five hundred and twenty-four sheep." Wu Xiaoming couldn't fall asleep no matter what. Memories of his past life and the strange flora and fauna after crossing over, along with the sounds of wolves howling, apes crying, and tigers roaring in the distance, filled his ears, making it even harder to sleep.
He didn't know if he could ever go back to civilized society. If he could, the first thing he would do is go to court and sue that shameless woman to death. Right now, everything still felt too unreal to Wu Xiaoming. How could such a woman exist?
"Sigh!" Wu Xiaoming sighed heavily, just as he was about to continue the never-ending task of counting sheep.
"Get up quickly, the Starving Eye Wolf is here!" A loud roar rang out, and the children and women all stood up, ready to fight. Wu Xiaoming glanced at the cave entrance and couldn't help but gasp in cold air...
