Chapter 2

CHLOE POV I couldn't explain how I felt. Was this a growing feeling of disappointment? Or was it heartbreak? Or was it even a strange feeling of relief hearing that I was no longer needed, the alpha never cared about me . It meant I could escape without being bothered? I could not really tell which it was; it felt like the mixture of all three. I was a Lycan. I was more powerful than any of these wolves-even the alpha-could ever dream of being. I had been blessed especially by the Moon Goddess herself, and yet here I stood, helpless and alone because of my status as a slave. I was merely a pawn in Alpha Dean's game of holding the claim to the throne , and there was nothing I could do about it. It seemed as though I was free to run away, free to chart a new course for my life. And yet I couldn't. My life couldn't get more miserable than this . I turned away from the door and stared at the sleeping baby. This was. I could finally plan my freedom. I could escape.I could leave the baby. That is what alpha Dean was after, wasn't it? He would not mind my absence. He only ever needed the child. I continued to look for the baby, and a new feeling crept into me. No! I wouldn't. I could not leave my child. He was mine, however ludicrous that might seem in my current position. I was a slave, no better than the horses alpha Dean owned. He would do away with me soon enough, now that he had what he'd always wanted-a Lycan heir. There were only two options for me. Escape with the baby or stay here with the baby. I sat down and weighed my options. Should I stay here, in captivity with my child, or should I run away and seek freedom, the freedom I had never had in my life? I reached my decision. I would escape . I would seek freedom I never had under my Stepfather or alpha Dean. I would be free at last. I waited till midnight to plan my escape. I sat in the dimness of my room, pale moonlight sifting through my window blinds. In the distance , I could hear several wolves howling to their heart's content. It was the night of the full moon, but all slaves had been ordered to stay in. My blood boiled with the desire to rub it outside and let loose, howling at the moon , but instead I was stuck in here. Not for long, I thought. I will soon be free. Immediately the clock struck midnight, I stood up from bed and walked to the door of my room quietly. I opened it and looked left and right. Nobody in sight. Good. Very good. It was lucky it was a night of the full moon and all wolves would be outdoors. I would only have to get past the guards now. I picked up my sleeping baby from the cot and got my small bag packed with all my belongings. I tiptoed out of the room and closed the door as quietly as I could. There were only two exot doors out of three houses. One would be the front door, which usually is the most heavily guarded. The other was the back door, which had only two guards. I didn't know how I would get past them, but I had to try. There was a sudden rustle behind me and I whipped back, but nobody could be seen. I continued to tiptoe my way down the stairs, glancing behind me several times. I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being followed, even though I knew the house was a empty as a graveyard. I slipped into the kitchen , where the back door was located, and stopped in my tracks. The door was wide open. There were no guards, no werewolves, nothing. Was this some sort of trap? Then I heard a voice behind me, and my heart stopped cold. “Where do you think you're headed to?” I turned slowly and saw alpha Lucas ,flanked by two guards in werewolf form. There was a cold, heartless grin on his face,a grin that mirrowed all my nightmares and fears. “Poor, stupid girl.” The alpha murmured. “How silly of you to think I would leave you unsupervised.” Tears gathered in my eyes, ready to fall. “Please….” The alpha ignored my pleas and motioned for me to come forward. With shaky breath, I walked towards him, holding my baby tightly in my arms. A deafening slap hit my left cheek, causing my ears to ring. I stumbled backwards as the tears finally let loose and grabbed a kitchen counter for support. Before I could gather myself, rough hands slipped around my neck and held tight. “You useless vermin!” Alpha Dean snarled, eyes blazing with a manic light as I choked in his hands. “You pile of worthlessness! I have security camera surveillance of all the rooms in this house. I watched as you packed your belongings. You are not actually thinking of running off with my heir, are you?” I opened my mouth to speak, but all that came out were pitiful whimpers. “No. No, you know what?” The alpha said and let go of my neck. I gasped and bent forward, eyes bulging as I tried to catch my breath. “I really do not care if you escape or not. I do not care if you die tomorrow. You have served the purpose of which you were given to me be your stepfather. But that baby in your arms? He belongs to me.” “No , please!” I whispered, gripping the child more tightly to myself. “I can't leave him.” There is hardly no other choice for you girl!” Alpha Dean growled. “It is either you leave unscathed and the babu stays here, or you die and the child will still stay here.” I shook my head weakly and went to my knees. “Please, no…” “Fine.” Alpha Dean murmured. Then a murderous look came into hiz Eyes as he uttered the last words. “Kill her.”
