The Raven's turn came to go on patrol. It would be a break in the training routine for Wolf. He and Red prepared supplies and gear for the week long trip. The knight, squire, and page left camp early, before sunrise. With Red riding Mary and Wolf riding Red's horse, Easy Rider, they set out on the tour of the valley floor. Riding north the riders took the day swimming the horses, crisscrossing the main river. To Wolf it seemed an exercise to deliberately keep him wet and cold, but he didn't complain; the only consolation being the fact that Red and the Raven were as wet and as cold as he was.
