Chapter 14
Sam opened the fireworks stand at 10:00 Saturday morning thinking it would be a busy day, and as the day wore on, the cars kept pouring in. By 5:30, he was exhausted from running around filling orders, ringing people out, and spending so much time outside in the sweltering heat. He’d taken Macey’s advice and was selling water and snacks to the customers, which was such a big hit, he’d sold out of Aunt Jan’s cookies within an hour, and he’d also brought himself a couple of sandwiches for lunch, which he’d practically swallowed whole, but he had no idea what he would do about supper and was contemplating whether or not his aunt might bring him something when he saw Macey stepping between the trees. Suddenly, his hunger pangs and exhaustion all disappeared.
