Hunter It was hard to tune out of the sounds of the city and it was starting to get to me; car's, horns, yelling, footsteps, constant noise. It has been three longs weeks of sleepless nights and endless meetings. As the Alphas eldest son I was sent out into the busy human city to learn the ins and outs of our packs massive construction company. We bought property and fixed them up or built apartment buildings, we owned close to half the human city. "We should have everything finished within two weeks Hunter, and you'll be able to start renting the apartments." Derek said happily as they were ahead of schedule and already planning the next pack project that the current Alpha Ryan of the mountain forest moon pack; my father had requested to be bumped up on the never ending to do list. "That sounds great Derek. I'm glad everything is going as planned and I can't wait to see the finished building." I feel my phone vibrating in my pocket, I take it out and excuse myself from the room to take the call. It was my father likely calling to inform me of another meeting or project to check up on. "Hello" I answered "Hunter, son you need to come home immediately." my father blurts out in an angry rush. "There's been an attack in the pack house. Get home as soon as you can" Click, the phone goes dead. F**k, I am out the front door and headed towards the truck. I mindlink Brad my soon to be beta " Start the truck, We need to get home Now! There was an attack" I Heard the truck start as I rounded the corner and jumped in. Brad cut into traffic and blew through the yellow light. "An attack? when and who?" Asked Brad trying to cover the worry in his voice. Neither of us had found our mates yet but we loved our family and would do whatever it took to find out who had attacked. "I don't know man, my father just said there was an attack at the pack house and we need to get home now." Brad nodded and sped up weaving in and out of the light midmorning traffic headed for the highway. We were a nine hour drive from the pack lands but at this rate we should make it in five. I needed to know more so I pulled out my phone and called my childhood friend Mark. The phone rang several times with no answer. I hung up. Where the hell was he? Mark was a go to for information as he would know or be able to find out quickly especially for a guy who mainly kept to himself. F**k, Who would want to attack our pack? We were a strong peaceful pack with many allied packs. Sure we were a bit old school with how things were done with the exception of our construction business. We all worked hard and would help any who needed it. why wouldn't someone in need just ask to see my father to work out whatever issue's had come up. I could not think of one wolf who would attack the pack house. Our land was massive, spread out over a forest mountain range. The odd Rouge wonders onto our pack lands once in awhile, finding a cave or some place to sleep for the night before continuing on their journey, any who have broken our laws was met with death or a jail cell if lucky. We gave second chances to some who have lost their way and even a runaway or two. I racked my brain trying to think up answers but I only had more questions. I was pulled from my thoughts as Brad pulled off the paved road and onto a small dirt road headed up the mountain. We were almost home and I wished it was under normal circumstance. I missed the peace of the forest the smell of wild flowers by the spring fed streams. At last the old cast-iron gate came into view and I was ready for whatever battle lay ahead.
