YOU ARE A GIRL. Camilla. "Zade Fisher." Mr. Dimitri read out and all colors drained out of my face as it felt like I was being given a punch in the gut. "That's impossible." I spoke out before I could stop myself and Zade turned to furrow his eyebrows at me. "What do you mean by that? It's expected, you are a girl." Zade corrected and I glared at him. "So that makes me unworthy to rule?" I asked and he kept quiet, looking away. "Which will is that?" I turned to ask Mr. Dimitri who was watching the brief exchange between me and Zade, with interest. "His only one, the one he made years before he died." Mr. Dimitri answered and I breathed a sigh of relief, feeling hope. Perhaps they just haven't found the new one or didn't expect him to make one. After all, it was meant to be a surprise. "You are to read his new will, not this old one." I said, making a gesture to the piece of paper in Mr. Dimitri's hand who narrowed his eyes at me in confusion. "New will? Mr. Ron made a new will?" Mr. Dimitri questioned me in disbelief, his mouth opening. "Yes." I nodded briskly. "It should be in his office or something." I explained and Zade sighed. "Yes, his office was ransacked for things like that but we found nothing." Zade told me but I just ignored him, looking at Mr. Dimitri for answers. "He is right, miss. Your father made no new one, at least not to my knowledge as his lawyer and I was very well present, when he was making this one which he called his final wish and order." Mr. Dimitri explained and I gasped, glancing around in shock. 'Could my father have lied to me?' I pondered, remembering how he promised to change his will and hand over this empire to me because he now saw that I was fit enough to rule and be his heir. It's what I have been training for all my life so what changed? "And me?" I asked, looking at the piece of paper in Mr. Dimitri's hand, wanting to get up and rip it into pieces. "Well, you are to be under Mr. Fisher's care." Mr. Dimitri replied with a smile that I didn't return. I just got up from my seat, left the room and went back to mine. I threw myself down on the bed, not even knowing what to think. 'If Dad knew he wasn't going to make his heir, then why did he lie to me, raise my hopes up or make me go through all of those trainings?' I pondered, having no answers to my questions since he was dead. This betrayal was too much to stand. I can't believe he made everything to be under his right-hand man. Just then, a knock sounded on my door and I stiffened. "Camilla, it's me, can I come in?" I heard Zade's voice and buried my head deeper into my pillow. 'What the hell did he want?' I wondered, as he continued to knock till I let out a groan and; "Please come in." I yelled, turning over to sit properly at the edge of my bed, awaiting him to walk in. My door opened and in he came, his walking stick in his hand as usual but he wasn't using it to walk, he was just holding it as he walked perfectly and sometimes, I do wonder if he does have any limp? "Congratulations on your promotion." I told him, trying to sound genuine with a fake smile directed at him but failed, because my cheeks were starting to hurt as hell from me faking smiles today. Zade paused a few feet away from me and looked me over with his eyes, as if seeing through my lies. "Thank you, but you don't have to pretend to be happy. It's obvious you are not." Zade pointed out and I wiped off the smile from my face immediately. 'Thank goodness!' I prayed within myself as I interlocked my fingers into my laps. "So why are you here, if you know that? I am sure you also know that seeing you right now isn't what I want." I told him and he grinned. "I do Camilla. I just came to talk." He responded, raising both of his hands up in surrender. "I am not in the mood for some chit-chat." I told him, with a frown. "I said talk Camilla, not chat." He corrected and I shrugged. "What's the difference?" "There is a difference." He told me as he walked over to the sofa in the corner of my room to take a seat on. "By all means, go ahead." I sighed as I fell back heavily on my bed, almost bouncing on it. "I don't want you to feel like your father betrayed you. You know it is expected that he wouldn't make you heir, because you are a..." Zade tried saying but I cut in with a bitter chuckle. "Girl. Why the hell is everyone so hell-bent on the gender, and besides why do you care how I feel?" I half-yelled, clenching my hands into fists. "Because I care about you. You are like a daughter to me now and I am also sure it's what your father would want." Zade responded and I rolled my eyes. "To take over the empire? Sure, he already made that clear in the will, after making a false promise to me." I reminded Zade, just in case he had forgotten. There was silence for a while which I thought was normal, till I turned around to see Zade arching his eyebrows at me in confusion. "False promise? What promise did he make to you and not fulfill? That's unlike Leonard." Zade pointed out and I was about to blurt out everything in anger when I froze, realization hitting me as goosebumps covered my entire body for some unknown reasons. 'Zade had no idea about the second will dad wanted to make? Why? Did father intentionally hide it from him or forgot to inform him? But how do you forget to inform your right-hand man about great changes in your empire?' multiple thoughts and questions ran through my mind, questions I didn't have answers to. "Hello. Earth to Camilla." Zade said as he snapped his fingers Infront of me. I blinked to see he was now standing Infront, so close to my face so my eyes widened and I reared backwards in shock. "Y-you a-ar-are too close." I stammered wondering when the hell he got up to my face. "Sorry." He smiled. "So what promise?" He nudged and I blurted out whatever came to mind. "To walk me down the aisle and my future husband would take over the empire." I lied and cursed within immediately, that was a stupid lie but he seemed to buy it for he scowled, and left afterwards. "Phew! That was a close call." I let out a sigh of relief, getting up to walk to my window, opening it to look out when I saw something like a paper caught in-between. Curiousity filled me so I reached out to take it, my heart skipping a beat as I realized it was a letter addressed to me. "I am sure you know your father didn't die of natural death. He was murdered in one of the best brutal way and I have the key information about the assassination." I paused, a gasp escaping my lips as I immediately looked around for anyone who looked suspicious. A shiver ran down my spine as I wondered who left this here and why none of our guards saw him when he was placing it here. Could it be an inside work? Nevertheless, I continued reading. "Do not trust anyone, because right now, it's war even if you aren't seeing it. If you are interested to know more, you know how to find me." "The f**k!" I cursed after reading this, squeezing the paper in my hand, about to throw it into the trashcan but then, stopped. What if one of the maids saw it and showed Zade? He will surely stop whatever plan I had in mind and I need, whosoever was behind this note, because I was going to get revenge for my father. I knew he was murdered but then I just wanted to hear the reading of the will before I decided. Since the empire wasn't going to be ruled by me, the least I could do was to fish out his killers and make them regret their every actions. I took a lighter from my dressing mirror and burnt the paper with it, before tossing it, into the trash can watching as it got engulfed into the flames. He said I would know how to reach him but I am not a witch, so how would I? Unless he or she was someone I knew? Why do I feel like I am stepping into a trap, but which?
