Ch. 15: Tests and Failures

970 Words
Everyone gave me a skeptical look as I was still fascinated by the strange and nostalgically new experience I was experiencing. "So, you are normal now?", Heeshik asked me, still uncertain if I'm on my normal state or not. Actually, I'm not even sure. Maybe I I'm feeling normal now, but maybe not tomorrow or the other day ahead. Either way, I should think of something to prevent myself from mutating to Violet Harpy. "I am.", I smiled in reassurance. I don't want them to worry about the possibility of becoming a Violet Harpy, or worry that I may become one and kill them. "But if ever I turn into one of them, shoot me.", I obliged. It's not a easy word to say, but they should be ready about any possibility. "But you know, this feels weird.", I said as I sat up on a stool. "What is?", Dad asked as he was busy writing something on an old small notebook. I don't know what was he writing there, but he looked serious. I didn't try to ask what was it, as I was being too fed up with the fascination about my nose. "I can smell anything. I mean, everything.", I revealed, as I took anything I could smell. I don't know how these things smell like, but I can smell it. Wait, so if I am infected by the Violet Harpy, I should smell like them, right? I tried to smell myself, but it smelt like, how do I explain this? I smelt like nothing. I can't compare its scent to whatever I have smelt so far. It was something unique, peculiar. "Anyways, Dad. Soobok and Heeshik were working for something.", I said and went to him only for him to finally close his notebook and put it on his body bag. "What is it?", he asked. I looked at Soobok and Heeshik and nodded for them to explain it. I can't help but glance towards Yul who was busy with Coco. Or is he pretending to be busy? "Ah, we are planning to create a cure.", Heeshik started, which made my dad look at them in disbelief before he burst out laughing. "There's no cure.", he revealed. I gasped at him and shook my head, "No, dad. Listen to them first.", I requested. But he also shook his head, "Are you thinking of using drugs to deliver the cure, and bypass the blood brain barrier?", he asked. How did he know? "Perhaps, did you try to create cure, too?", I asked him and he nodded. He sighed and crossed his arms, leaning his back against the wall, "Yes, and I've tested it on some Harpies back on Jeju, and it didn't work.", he revealed. I looked at Soobok, confused. "What drugs did you use?", Soobok asked, determination was burning on his eyes. "Since it's hard to find any drugs there, all I could get was m*******a, ecstasy and cocaine. I wasn't able to try any other drugs.", he explained. "Cocaine? I used cocaine few weeks ago for the cure, and it worked.", Soobok said. Dad looked at him suspiciously, "Are you sure? You're not lying, are you?", he asked. "I'm not, sir. I can still remember the formula for it, maybe we can work this together.", Soobok said. Dad was rather, unconvinced. He stood straight and went towards him. "How is it possible? How are you sure it worked?", Dad was intrigued, he's suspicious about him. Yes, he always was. He's always suspicious of everything, in general. He's a person who only believe on facts with defined and strong proof. "Kahee and I had succeed about it for the first time we made it. We know it worked, because it worked on Dad. But he died when he went out after that. Because his memories were erased, as if he was born again.", he explained. Dad stared at him for a few seconds, as silence filled the whole room. No one tried to speak, even me. Suddenly there was a pang of ache on my head, as if I was hit by something so hard, like a rock. At first I just jolted a bit, but then it circled around my head. "What's wrong?", Soljun, who was the nearest to me held my arms, and his words drawn attention from everyone. I was about to speak, but nothing escaped my mouth but a loud whimper. "It hurts!", I yelled in frustration. I couldn't feel anything but the pain. It was as if someone's drilling on my head. I tried to breathe evenly, rather, I panted. My other hand held my head for support as if my head would fall if I didn't, while the other held onto Soljun's arm, as I gripped at him tightly. "f*****g hurts.", I complained, and looked at the wooden floor of this house we don't know whom. I looked up, when the sudden pain disappeared. "Are you okay?", Dad asked out of concern, as the guys looked at me with utmost concern. I sighed and inhaled sharply. "Everyone, you have to see something!", Dohyun came, panting, exhaustion trailed on his face as he was holding a metal bar. His pants and shirt has stains of dirt and oil. He still looked attractive like he always was, despite his messy and sweaty hair. "What is it?", Jaehwa, who was curious as everyone, asked as he ran to the younger boy. "There's a harpy at the garage. And he looked different than the others we've seen so far.", he said in between his breath.  Forgetting about my headache, I ran to him and asked, "And?", I asked since he looked like there is something else he could add up to his discovery. Something intriguing, and surprising. "He can talk. He spoke to me."
