Chapter Ten

Leviathan POV

Chandra and I hit the road early the next morning. She agreed to help me with the interviews. She had a good sense of things and people had a hard time hiding their true intentions from her. We rode in silence. I liked Titan’s mate, but I was preoccupied with a dream I had last night. I dreamt of my mate. I never saw her face, but her scent drove me crazy. I searched and I searched my dream land all night and I could never catch her. She smelled like peaches and cinnamon. I was only 25 so I don’t know why I dreamt of her last night. I had time to find her and I had plenty in my life to keep me busy. My wolf is just restless to find her. If it were his choice, he would have us running to all the packs in the world to sniff her out. I had responsibilities though.

We made it to Night Industries and made our way to the conference room. There was a waiting room filled with people who wanted the job here. I groaned inwardly. Our reputation was a good one. We paid our employees fair and had a great benefits package. Humans and Werewolves wanted to work here. Werewolves from other packs that were close by had even come for previous jobs. I looked at Chandra as we picked our seats. “This is going to be a long day.” She laughed and nodded as she unpacked her things. “Thanks for helping me with this. Sorry I was so preoccupied on the drive here.” She shrugged. “It’s not a big deal. You have a lot on your plate. I’m glad you asked for my help. We are family Levi.” I smiled at that, thanking Goddess that my Beta found such a wonderful mate. We started the interviews.

By midmorning I was already itching to be done with them. We had several good ones, but some were just shewolves who wanted to meet me hoping that I was their mate. Chandra was good about staying professional when that happened and treated it like any other interview. She teased me after when they were gone. It was a well-known fact that I still was unmated, and many fathers wanted the honor of having their daughter become Luna of our pack. I heard Titan trying to link me when Chandra got up to get the next contestant. I put my hand on her arm and told her to wait. I accepted Titan’s link

“She is back Alpha. She was screaming about someone coming after her, but we searched and came up with nothing. Something bad is going down and you need to get here.”

“I’m on my way. Take her to the cells and start her interrogation. I will be there in half an hour.”

I closed the link and explained what happened to Chandra. “Will you finish the interviews? We need 25 people. Hire whoever you think is worthy. I will send someone to come pick you up.” She nodded “I will. You boys be careful.” I walked out of the room while mindlinking one of the warriors who was not protecting the border. “I need you to bring a car and pick Chandra up at the office. She is currently interviewing people so you might have to wait a bit but go ahead and come this way, so our Beta Female doesn’t have to wait.”

“Yes Alpha.”

Satisfied I closed the link and headed to the car we brought. I drove like a maniac home.

When I got back into pack grounds, I stopped at the office of the head warrior to get an update. “She came at us in wolf form, but quickly shifted when she saw us coming. I had my warriors search every inch of a 5-mile radius outside the border where she came from and there was no one. I could faintly smell another rogue, but we never found him.” I thanked him and headed to the pack house basement where our cells were. The room was soundproofed and locked with a key so only those with status could get in or out. When I opened the door, I was hit with the scent from my dream. My mind was wrapped up in that glorious scent as I let it carry me down the stairs, not realizing who it belonged to. Only when I reached the end of the steps, I realized why my mate would be down here. I didn’t want to step into the room knowing what I was going to come into. I tried to get my wolf to calm down, but he was prancing in my head “Mate! Mate! We must get her! Mate!” He howled happily. I opened the door and heard the sickening slap of the whip on a back and a scream. I looked into her eyes and felt my body tingle. There was an undeniable pull to her. “Mine” I growled out in a low voice. She tried to say something to me, but the whip came down again. A blood curdling scream came out of her.

“STOP!” I yelled with the authority of an alpha. I wanted to rush to the cell, but I stopped myself. I could feel my wolf whining and wanting me to reach out to her. I looked at her and saw the pain in her eyes. She was naked. I growled. Altair tried to come to the surface, but I wouldn’t let him. “Other men are seeing Mate naked. Let me tear them to shreds!” I closed my eyes and through clenched teeth said “Everyone out. Titan my office, now.” I heard them walk out then I looked back at her. What I saw made me want to tear the throats out of everyone close. She was shaking and there was so much fear rolling off her. Tears were streaming freely from her eyes. I could see the bruises that riddled her body. She was so thin her ribs were sticking out of her. I saw fading wounds in the shape of teeth that was turning to scars. Bruising around her neck showed that someone tried to choke her. When I got to her mound I could see the bruises on the inside of her thighs. My mate was hurt. I turned around without saying anything and stormed upstairs to my office where Titan was waiting.

He had the good sense about him to be quiet. I started to pace around the office in a fury. “What the hell happened down there? My mate is a f*****g rogue. Rogue’s are useless, violent wolves! Someone abused her. I’m gonna kill him when I get my hands on him.” I was going back and forth between hating that she was my chosen mate and hating the ones who hurt her. I stopped pacing and turned to him. “Why was she naked? Why were you looking at her? Why the hell were you hurting her?” Titan stood his ground. “She shifted and we took her straight to the cells and started the interrogation. Did you forget how we interrogate people? We needed answers and she has them. How were we supposed to know she was your mate?” I continued to pace, not answering until I could feel my anger calming down. I sat at my desk with my head in my hands. I could feel Altair’s burning need to help her, but I couldn’t face that. “Have a female warrior take her down from the chains and be her warrior. Have a female nurse take care of her wounds and clean her up and give her clothes. She needs to be fed as well. Have the nurse take her some food. No one is to talk to her or see her. Females only Beta.” At that last bit I growled. No man would go near her. I shook my head trying to clear it. That was just the bond. A rogue couldn’t be our Luna. The pack wouldn’t accept it. I couldn’t accept it. “Now leave I need to figure this out.” I heard Titan leave but left my head in my hands. What was I going to do?
