Chapter Twelve

Leviathan POV I eventually moved to my bedroom to change out of my suit. I still had no answers as to what I was going to do. The idea of rejecting her made me fall to my knees in pain. Other women never held my attention because I knew my perfect fit was out there somewhere, but maybe if I rejected her, I could find someone I loved. Even as the thought crossed my mind, I knew I could never do that. I had to go for a run. I was going crazy. Altair wouldn’t be much help, but maybe he can give me the strength I need to figure out if I could love her.   As soon as we shifted, I could feel Altair taking over. I let him run as fast as he wanted. “I know what you want Altair, but I don’t know if it’s what’s best for me, for the pack.”   “Goddess knows what she is doing. You need to trust her.”   “What if she made a mistake? Why would she give us a rogue? They have no alliances. She has been out there for a long time, which means she was banished when she was young. You know that rogues have gotten together in the past to try to overrun packs. Our pack is growing so is our company which means we are in the spotlight more. Rogues are known to attack packs that are coming into the spotlight to try to take what we have. I am the Alpha. I can’t put our pack at risk.”   “Yes Levi, we are Alpha. Do you think that we could lead as the Alpha if we rip our heart from our body? You know the pain of rejection can kill. What if you leave the pack with no Alpha? Don’t make a rash decision. Try to get some answers first.” I was so in tuned to our conversation that I didn’t notice Altair was taking us to the outside entrance to the cells. He wanted to go to her. We shifted back to human and threw on some clothes that was in a bin by the door. I opened the door quietly. The warrior shifted into attack form. She changed her posture and bowed when she saw it was me. “Go outside and guard this door. I will let you know when I am done.” She nodded. “Yes Alpha.” She quickly went outside.   I turned to the cell. What I saw broke my heart. She was halfway curled up on the floor. I forgot to give her anything to sleep on. I chided myself for being so stupid. Her face betrayed the pain she was in. I couldn’t stop myself. I opened the door of the cell and sat next to her. I gathered her in my arms. My skin where we touched tingled. It was as if my world was exactly the way I needed it to be. I saw our life together. The help I would have running the pack and the business, the pups we would have running around the grounds. The dark thoughts started to seep into my head then. I could also see the disgust and hatred on the pack’s faces when I announced her as Luna. I could see her friendless with only me for company. I was so torn. I looked back down at her. The pain on her face was gone. She was no longer shivering from being cold. I could feel her melt into me, sighing in contentment. I bent down to smell her. Peaches and Cinnamon. The smell washed over me. I watched as her lips opened. I wanted to kiss her so bad. It took all of my strength to hold back. Instead I kissed the top of her head. I could feel her falling into a deep sleep, so I slowly put her back on the floor. I quietly searched through the drawers and found a pillow and a few blankets. I made her a pallet on the floor then put her on it as gently as I could and covered her up. I knew what I had to do. I left the dungeon and allowed the warrior to go back to her post. I went back to my room and passed out quickly, thankful the decision was made. It was going to be the hardest thing I ever did, but I could do it.   Elenora POV My dreams were filled with pain, physical and emotional. I couldn’t make any sense of the pictures that were flittering by, but I could feel everything. Without expecting it I smelled the forest after a midnight rain. It was the smell of my mate. The pain started to fade along with the pictures. I finally was able to slip into a deep sleep.
