First Impressions, Lasting Shadows
Riya stood at the entrance of the vibrant California college campus, her face lit up with joy. She could hardly believe she was finally here, living her dream. Finally! I’m really here! she thought, her excitement bubbling inside her.
The campus was alive with excitement, every corner bursting with color and charm. As Riya admired the scenery, she suddenly bumped into a girl dressed in a stylish, boyish outfit.
Oh, sorry! So sorry! Riya exclaimed.
The girl smiled, unfazed. “No worries, girl!” she replied.
With a broad and infectious grin, the girl put her arm around Riya’s shoulder. Welcome! You’re going to love it here!
Riya felt a mix of confusion and intrigue as she noticed the girl’s expensive clothes and accessories. This girl exuded confidence, capturing everyone’s attention.
Holding her admission letter tightly, Riya headed toward the principal’s office, excitement coursing through her. This is it! Direct admission! she thought, envisioning the new beginning ahead.
Inside the principal’s office, the students parted ways as Riya entered. Just then, the girl called out, “Hey, Flexy!”
Riya frowned. “Hey, don’t!”
Moments later, another girl rushed in, playfully hitting the first girl on the arm. “I told you not to call me Flexy!”
A new friendship began to blossom between the three. The second girl introduced herself, extending her hand. “I’m Lily.”
Riya shook her hand, smiling. “Nice to meet you!”
The three girls excitedly ran into their dorm room, laughter filling the air as they claimed their beds. Their first day together was a whirlwind of joy and excitement.
The next morning, Jasmin rushed to the bathroom, banging on the door. “Riya, I’m counting to three!”
Suddenly, the main door burst open, and police officers rushed into the room.
“Where’s Lily?” one officer demanded.
Just then, Lily entered from outside, having just returned from jogging. She froze in surprise. “Are you Lily?” the officer asked.
“Yes,” Lily replied confidently.
The officer gestured for her to step aside, ready to check her bag. “Uh, okay…” Lily said, a hint of nervousness creeping into her voice.
As the officers began searching for her bag, Riya stepped out of the washroom, concern etched on her face. “Is everything okay?” she asked.
The officer’s expression turned alarmed as he pulled out a packet of white powder from Lily’s bag. “What is this?” he demanded.
Lily’s eyes widened in shock. “I don’t know how that got there!” she panicked, realizing the gravity of the situation.
From the next room, girls whispered about Lily’s father, revealing that he was a notorious gang leader. “Her father is the richest man in Mexico... and a gang leader!” one girl said.
Riya and Jasmin exchanged worried glances, unsure of what to believe. “How do you know that?” Riya asked, her voice trembling.
At the police station, Lily’s expression changed as she saw familiar cars outside. Tension filled the air as her past loomed closer. Inside, men in black suits surrounded her, their demeanor intimidating.
“We can’t release her without further investigation,” Officer Jacob stated, trying to maintain control.
Then, an old man entered the room, and everyone bowed to him. “This girl is innocent; we are responsible for the drugs,” he proclaimed.
Jacob stood firm, but the head officer arrived, visibly displeased with him. “She is a victim; we can’t let this go unresolved,” he insisted.
The tension peaked as Lily stood her ground, facing the intimidating men. “I didn’t do anything wrong!” she declared defiantly.
Jacob looked conflicted but ultimately decided to let her go. “You’re free to leave,” he said.
As Lily left, she turned back and slapped one of the men in black suits, shocking everyone. “That’s for using me!” she shouted, her voice ringing with empowerment.
Outside, her father waited in a car. Tears welled in Lily’s eyes as she apologized to him. I’m sorry, Uncle! I didn’t mean to…
Jacob watched through the window, shaking his head with a small smile.
