Chapter TwelveThe Honu slowed. It was time to let go. Before she released her grip, the little female turned its head and looked straight at her with its big dark eyes. With the next surge, Lilly released her grip and the surf tumbled her into the shallows. Her hand dragged in sand. Each time she tried to stand a wave knocked her down. Each time a wave washed over her head, she thought she was at sea again. That had been sand she felt momentarily under her knees. Realizing this, she fought to stay on top of the waves and to let them wash her higher onto the beach.
