THE LOVE IN ME

Chapter Five

The day before the board meeting Eve was trying to put something in order. after which she took the designs to Mike as they agreed. Mike liked them, but showed her some mistakes which they corrected, he then asked her to help him out with some files, they kept working until it was 7:30pm.Later Eve was weak she couldn’t do much, Mike notice her

“ seems like you forgot to stuff some food in your mouth today” he teased.

At the mention of food Eve remembered she didn’t eat anything for breakfast and ate a piece of cake that her colleague sheared since it was her birthday, for lunch.

“ don’t worry, I will take you to dinner” Mike added

“ no that won’t be necessary....” she hold her tummy as it makes some noise

“ see, no need for you to worry, John is coming along” he said

“ fine if you insist” she agreed. As they were putting things back to where they belong,Eve climbed a stool and try put back a file when she slipped, but landed in Mike’s arms instead, at that moment she felt butterflies in her stomach and her heart beating faster. What wrong with me for Christ sake? What kind of feels is all this?she asked herself I

“Are you okay” he asked with concern as he put her down,she jotted out of her thoughts as she felt his hands around her waist “ yes am fine” she answered

“ I think you are really starving, go collect your bag and let’s go” he ordered. As Eve walked out of the room he imagined her in his arms breathing in her sweet cherry smell, to be honest this is the first time i have been so close to her, he told him self. He quickly closed the office and ment Eve at the packing lot, he opened the door for her before entry the car and drove off.

As they reached the restaurant Eve climbed down while Mike went to pack the car, as Eve walked close to the door she found Ella standing next to the security

“ what on earth are you doin here” Eve asked surprised. Ella jumped in excitement and hugged Eve who didn’t hug her back,” I asked a question” she reminded

“ come on I, I actually came to see someone” Ella reply

“You came with out telling me, and who is this person” Eve asked this time anger

“ hey, I am actually here to meet my new boyfriend, and I would like you to meet him too” Ella request

“ really I see you have been keeping things away from me lately, but that doesn’t mean you can’t call me to at least inform me that you’re in town” Eve protested.

“ come on Eve, stop acting like a child, and shhh here he comes” Ella said as she straighten her dress, Eve looked behind her and saw Mike and John heading towards them

“ which one of them” Eve asked

“ the one on t- shirt” Ella answered. Eve turned again and to her surprise it was on other than John “ seriously?”She asked as she turned back to see Ella smiling foolishly “ I can still remember, this was the exact smile on your face when you wanted to introduce me to Frank, back then in school”Eve smirks

“ Eve please not now”Ella warned

“ ok, but tell me is this how love works” Eve asked sarcastically

“ Eve”Ella snapped, and walked towards John who gave herself a tight hug which makes me feel irritated or should I say jealous, which jealous when and how did jealousy come in. Eve snapped herself out of her thoughts when Ella called her, “Eve, John and John meet.....”

“ seriously, are you going to introduce me to my boss” Eve asked mockingly

“ it’s not like you told me” Ella defends her self

“ that is because you didn’t tell me he was your boy friend. So if we are done with the introduction can we please go inside” Eve said and went into the restaurant “ what on earth is she doing here anyway” Ella asked

“ I actually brought her here to eat” Mike answered

“ no way, the Eve I know wouldn’t have come here with you because of food, I mean if she hates you then their is no two way about it, something is wrong somewhere” Ella objected

“ I think she is really starving” Mike tried defending Eve

“ what ever it is,pray it ends well for her” Ella prayed as they walked in, after giving orders the food was served and they ate quietly “ so what have you been up to lately” Ella asked Eve breaking the silence

“Nothing” she replied still eating.

“ is there’ any thing you want to say” Ella asked again

“ No” was her response

“ i never know you to be quiet like this” Ella remarks

“ I never know you to be dumb, I mean can’t you understand where and when not to speak” Eve replied irritated

“ sorry if you felt offended with my questions I just wanted us to talk” Ella apologized “ I know you angry at me for not telling you that am in town,i wanted to come to your house after dinner so we could talk” she continued, at that point Eve dropped her spoon and looked towards Ella, everybody was silent, Mike saw a face that he had never seen in her before an angry girl. “ what would you have told me?some leftover gist I guess, and about coming to my house, honestly I wouldn’t have opened the door since you didn’t come to see me, but for old time sakes,i can let you in,but you,...or should I say we,will have to pass the night at grandmas room, and don’t think that forgave you.”Eve stated and continue with her meal

“ what happened to your room, oh I guess it’s totally messed up” Ella said

“ yes very messy that you can’t even find a place to stand properly”Eve answered

“ is it messed than what i saw the other day” Mike asked surprised

“ wait wait hold on a second,Eve, you didn’t tell me about that” Ella requested

“ there was nothing talk about it,and he was only there to clear his mess” Eve explained.

“ so he is still cleaning up the mess right now?that’s why you are here with him? Eve are you going to say something?” Ella pressured.

“ enough now,and I don’t want to talk any more so stay in your limits” Eve warmed,at the mere mention of Mike makes her skin go cold, she quickly ate her food and took her bag ready to leave, she looked at Mike who was staring at her and told him thank you “ I think you are stressed up you should take stay at home tomorrow” Mike advices

“ but tomorrow is the presenting day, and I don’t want to miss it,so maybe the day after the meeting” she protested

“ Eve,Cindy is there so don’t come curse I don’t want to see you, and by the way you’re acting strange and angry all the time, this attitude can ruining tomorrow” Mike said and John agreed with him

“ but...”

“ Eve no more I wasn’t asking, I gave an order and that is it” Mike said cutting her short. Eve stood up was about to move when Ella asked for a good night hug, which she ignored,

“ so I am in your bad list now right? come on, I forgot to give you call” Ella try explain

“ is that how your love works for you, forgetting some one at a point of life” Eve snapped angrily

“ so it’s still about the love thing right, what’s your problem with it anyway? I didn’t ask you to hate,just the way I loved ”Ella defend. “ really is that what you think?” Eve asked

“ it feels like I don’t know you any more” Ella replied

“Well , feels like i got to know the real you” Eve said nodding her head “ I think i am tiered” she added

“ yes you’re, go home I will stay at John’s place, but I will come see you tomorrow morning,okay bye” Ella said as she gave her a hug.

“ I will drop your home”Mike offered, Ella looked at Eve to see her reaction but Eve seems to weak to decline. As they drove home Eve fell asleep, he stopped in front of her house ring the doorbell, as soon as Mrs Nelson came out he went back to the car and carried Eve inside, Mrs Nelson directed him to her room, it was indeed a total mess, her mom shifted some of the papers to one side and he laid her down safely, he brushed some hairs away from her face, she was a beauty Mike thought as he left the room

“ did she fall ill?” Mrs Nelson asked

“ no she was just tiered and weak ” he answered

“ yeah u saw that, but she is to stubborn so I kept quiet, thanks for bring her home” she said. Mike bid her good night and left.

Eve POV

The next morning, the phone was ringing, I was too lazy to get up, I reach out to my bed table and grabbed my bag and brought out my phone

“ hello who am I speaking with?” I ask

“ come on Eve, it’s me Ella, how are you? she ask

“ as you can hear I am doing just fine, am sorry for what i said last night,i didn’t mean to say all that nonsense”I apologized

“ it’s okay, I know you weren’t in your right senses” Ella teased. After chatting for about 30 minutes they bid each other good bye, no long Cindy called her and asked why she didn’t come “ I think that answer is best known to CEO” Eve replied

“ what do you mean by the CEO?, every body is here at the office and you are not coming” Cindy said in closed teeth

“ hey he asked me no to come so?” Eve said sensing her anger

“ are you sure? or You are finding a way to avoid him, because I have seen the way you acts each time he is around you”Cindy teased, at the thought of Mike Eve’s heart skipped a bit

“ hey stop that, I don’t even like him, you can ask him if you want. He is the one person that piss me off each time I see him okay”after saying that sentence it felt that I lied to my self by why, why am i feeling all this, “ hey I was only joking, and there is nothing wrong for him to date you, you know” Cindy teased again interrupting her thoughts

“ enough now get to work”Eve Said and quickly disconnects the call “ ahhh what a day, what am I supposed to do now” she said laying back on the bed, there was a knock on the door “ come in” it was her mom “ i brought you breakfast” she said as she placed the tray on the table and sit close to her “ good morning mom, and thanks for the breakfast, you shouldn’t have stressed your self, i could have done it my self” Eve said sitting up

“ I know, but I sensed you will be too tired to get out of bed, anyway Mike brought you home last night he is such a nice guy” her mom said,and I only managed to smile “I am off to work, and don’t forget to call him to say thank you” Mrs Nelson said as she leaves the room . Sure I will tell him thanks but not calling curse I don’t have his number, Eve told her self.

After two hours of cleaning my room I was exhausted, i want to the kitchen and prepared something to eat, after which I slept for another one hour and,when I woke up it was already 12:30pm the meeting should be over by now,and why has Cindy not called me yet or did my designs go wrong?, no if it had,Cindy would have been yelling at me right now, so if not then what is keeping her from calling me, these thoughts kept coming to my mind. Not too long my phone started ringing, i rushed out of the bathroom door with my hair still wet.

it’s was an unknown number “ unknown number? Video call?who on earth is this” she asked her self and declined the call, it rang again, this time she answered with sharp tone “ who is this” she asked

“ is that how to answer an unknown number” Mike asked, his voice sending cold to her body “ I am sorry, it’s just that I am not used to unknown calls” she replied calmly

“ it’s okay, can you put it on camera please” he requested Eve did as he asked

“ what?so you can see if my room is still in a mess” she said jokingly sitting on the bed, then moved the phone around for him to take a quick look at her room,only one thing caught Mike’s eyes Eve’s body, she was wearing a sleeveless shirt and a short jeans which reached her thighs, truly I haven’t seen her like this before, damn she is killing me slowly Mike thought, “ so what happened today?” Eve asked cutting short his thought “ nothing actually, it went well and your designs were accepted and Cindy celebrated it with the rest of the team. So how are you doing?he asked back

“ as you can see I am doing nothing, and thanks for helping us out the ideals you brought at the last hour, I really appreciate” Eve said sincerely, Mike was a little surprised because he never expected any thanks from a girl like her anyway she never seizes to amaze him“ so how are you feeling how hope your anger has subsided?”he asked

“ yes unless you want me to be angry again” she joked

“ no, but if it Means, making us talk for long then yes” he replied honestly, Eve saw the wish to discuss more in his eyes, a part of her wished for the same, but she quickly ignored it“ thanks for bringing me home last night” she said quickly pushing the thoughts away “ you welcome” Mike replied. After the call Eve could not understand why she felt lonely, she tried doing some design but the thought of Mike kept getting on her mind “what’s wrong with me God”asked her self almost i tears.

Its now four days to Christmas the workers of W&S fashion world were busy making arrangement for their Christmas carol party every preparations was done, I was thankful for the stress curse it makes me think less of Mike who was how gaining a big portion in my head.Every workers are excited about it, except me because i wouldn’t be coming so as to avoid Mike, I actually planned on seeing my aunty who gave birth two days ago, anyway it’s just a mere excuse. “ Eve you are called” Cindy cut me off my thoughts “ by who” I inquired “ by your crush off course” she replied and quickly run before I could say anything, what does he want? i ask my self. I knocked the door before coming in, to my surprise his shelves was dead to the ground and books every were “ sorry for the person who is going to clear that mess” I pitted as i walked in looking around for him, “ hey,thank you for coming” I heard as I turned back and saw him wearing a red t- shirt,he looked sexy in it,God what is wrong with me, I screamed inside me

“ are you okay?” Mike asked concerned as he saw my turned face worried.

“ yeah am good and strong, can I do anything for you”sorry I didn’t know when that slipped out of my mouth

“ actually I think I need that strength now, as you can see my office is in a bad shape” he said looking around once again.

Oh God i wish I could take my words back and say that am weak, too bad I just pitted my self earlier on.i wished “ so I think we should get started” Mike added

“ wait ,we? where are the cleaners?” I bursted with out thinking, “ sorry I mean...”

“ it’s okay you can go if you want,it’s just that i wanted us to do it, since the company cleaners are not coming today” he explained

God damn it he is really considerate,and cute what is wrong with me?i thought hitting her head with my hand “ are you sure you can do this?” Mike asked “ sure” was my reply.

Theyworked for two hours, and was done with the cleaning with out talking much,which went well with Eve.while washing their hands Mike broke the silence by asking why Eve won’t come to the party

“ I am going to see my aunt who just gave birth” she replied

“ so it means you are not coming then” he pressed

“ yeah,is there any thing wrong?” she asked

“ no,no not at all” he answered

Mike POV

Some thing is not right, is she trying to avoid me? or she is hiding from someone but who could that be, plus the way she is acting strange, something is wrong with her but what?all this thoughts kept coming to my mind, so i called Eve’s mom pretending to congratulate the birth of her sister’s child, and it turned out to be true that her aunt really gave birth, but still my instants told me that she was playing another game. The next day I collected Ella ‘s number from John asking her to help me bring Eve to the party and she promised to do her best.
