Brand New Start
"Zora. We're here." Her father perked.
Zora opened her window and stared out at the new place they moved into.
"Welcome to our new home." Her mother showed her smile in the front mirror.
A big brown house, with a beautiful front garden and an elegant feel to the house, made her smile. The glass doors made it fit with the beauty of the house. Zora turned her head to her parents with a wide grin.
"I love it! I can't believe you got this place, Dad."
"We should thank one of my coworkers for telling me this new house for sale. I didn't think it was possible to transfer somewhere near home either." He chuckled.
Zora turned her head back to the new house. Finally, she can start a new life in a new city. Far from her past and fears. Far from him.
"Well, shall we go look inside? I think the movers with our stuff already placed it inside." Her mother got out of the car.
"Wait for me" Zora laughed as she jumped out the car and ran to the door.
Zora impatiently waited for her parents to walk to the door. "Hurry up slowpokes." She giggled.
"Who you calling a slowpoke, young lady?" Her father lightly tugged her ear which made her laugh even more.
Her mother slowly laughed as she opened the door. Zora ran off inside and spun around and around with happiness and glee.
"Careful Zora, we don't need you bumping into things on the first day of coming here." Her father joked.
She stopped spinning and pouted. "Dad, you meanie."
Her father grinned like a kid and ruffled her hair before heading into the kitchen. Zora lightly stomped her foot as she redid her hair back to the original style. Her frowned turned into a smile when she spotted her mother smiling back at her while holding her hand out. Zora took her hand and ran into the kitchen to where her father was. Zora reached out and grabbed her father's arm and hugged it.
"Mom, Dad? Will we be happy here?" She looked at both her parents.
Her father kissed her forehead as she mother tighten her grip on Zora's hand. Zora felt the reassurance from her parents surround her.
"Yes, I will make sure we will be happy here Zora. I want nothing more than our little girl's happiness. You mean the world to us."
Zora smiled happily towards her father and let her mother's hand go and ran out of the kitchen to the stairs. "I'm going to look at my room!" She yelled out.
Her parents slowly walked while laughing heartily. Her mother hugged Zora's father and leaned her head towards him. "We'll be okay, right Mark?" Her smile was soft but concerning
He kissed her forehead with a smile. "I promise that we'll be fine. I will protect this family. Don't worry Karen."
She lifted her face up to meet her beloved's face smiling back at her. She tightens her grip on Mark's arm knowing that she made the right choice to be in love with him and marrying him was the best thing in her life following Zora coming into their life. Her face changed when she thought about Zora.
"Karen? Why the sudden long face?"
"Mark, I'm scared. What if our baby is in trouble again? Like in the past house we were in. I don't want to keep moving and ruining her life. It's unfair." Karen bit her lip to force the tears to stay where they are. The burning sensation in her eyes let a few tears leak out as she held in her sniffles.
Mark eyed her sadly then look ahead where his beautiful daughter was before running upstairs. "Karen, Zora is a strong girl because we raised her like that. We are the reason she is able to smile." Mark turned her wife to face him as he smiled. "Because we love her that she can show love." Mark kissed Karen's tears away and pulled her in for a tight hug.
Karen hugged him back and engulfed her nose with his scent. Her arms wrapped around him his structured body was familiar to her fingertips. Her lips curved into a smile and sighed happily in his arms. "I love you, Mark."
"I love you too Karen."
They let their lips close the gap between them as they let the touch linger in every sense of their body tingle with happiness. Karen giggled as her ears were filled with her husband's sigh.
"Guys, please get a room..."
Karen gasped while pushing Mark's lips off her as her head turned to see her eye twitching daughter. Karen laughed awkwardly as Mark ruffled his chestnut brown messy hair.
"You guys have a master room for a reason. Plus, I don't think I'm ready for a baby brother or sister for now." Zora smirked.
Mark shook her head and ran after his daughter. "Come here you!"
Zora shrieked as she ran away from her father. Karen followed them to the living room as Mark grabbed their daughter and spun her around. Karen giggled while shaking her head as she loved her husband and daughter more than usual.
"Zora, tomorrow you'll be starting a new school. Are you excited?" Her father smiled.
Zora's smile turned into a frown. "No, not really." She said softly.
Her father placed her down and went down to her eye level. "What's wrong darling?"
"I hate talking to people and being the new kid. I was never a new kid in my life, now I am." She sighed.
Her father laughed and pushed aside hair that fell on her face. "Zora, everyone will have to overcome something they never expected to experience in their life. Life is wondrous that way."
"Well, when you say it like that Dad, I still hate it." She frowned some more.
Her father blinked repeatedly then laughed along with her mother. Zora pouted and attacked her father with a hug to the ground with a giggle.
"Zora, you'll do fine. Alright?"
She nodded. "Alright, Dad."
He kissed her forehead as she smiled happily.
The house was filled with laughter and happy screams of a family that has nothing but love and fear in their life. This was the brand new start that the family wanted. What Zora wanted. Even the new will be the old back. That's the fear.
