Katie Thompson was raised in the foster care system since she was 2 years old. She does not know what happened to her family. She only knows what she is told. There was a bad fire, and she was the only survivor.
Katie gets diagnosed with severe ADHD, and is medicated at 5 years old. When she starts to hear a voice, she made the mistake of telling her foster parents. For 16 years she plodded through life barely feeling anything.
Working on cars and motorcycles, and mix martial arts, gave her purpose. Those two activities gave her a job, something to be proud of, and the chance to feel something other than numbness, even if it was pain.
At 18 Kat ages out of the system, and the foster parents kick her out on her birthday. Katie takes her beat up truck, all her belongings and heads west. Before she leaves her foster father has one last request...for her to throw her medications out the window and never come back. On the drive, Kat throws out her medications. just as he requested. What will Kat discover about the voice that has never completely gone away? Why does she want to go west, and what is pulling her there? How far will she go? Only time will tell.
