After leaving Hawthorne Group, he drove straight to Zoey's school.
Classes had just ended. Caleb and several other teachers stood near the entrance, seeing the children safely off to their families.
Ethan walked over. "I'm here to pick Zoey up."
Caleb saw him, but his expression stayed neutral. He didn't hand Zoey over.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Hawthorne. We can only release children to someone on their approved pickup list."
Ethan clearly disliked him. His expression turned even colder.
"I'm Zoey's father. That makes me her legal guardian."
Caleb shook his head. "When Zoey enrolled, Ms. Hayes was the only person listed for pickup. If you want to take Zoey, I'll need Ms. Hayes to authorize it. She hasn't contacted us."
