Desmond's Pov I hurried down the corridor, heading to the hall to get my suit. I dashed into the conference hall with speed as I was in haste to return back to my company when a sudden figure caught my attention. I caught a glimpse of the familiar face which has always been perturbing me for years, but I disregarded it, it must be my mind, playing tricks on me. With haste, I rushed into the conference Hall and grabbed my suit and was about to leave the conference hall when a glimpse of Eleanor caught my attention and my heart skipped. Decisively, I turned around to see Eleanor, seated at the host position with her mask placed neatly by her side. I stood frozen on the spot, my feet rooted to the floor as my legs seemed immovable. My eyes widened in shock as I stared at Eleanor. After five years of searching everywhere frantically for my ex wife, I bumped into her in a very unusual place. My eyes swept all over her as I behold her beautiful features. Her chiseled face and beautiful eyes seemed to have lost that gentleness and warmth in it, as she looked at me coldly. I gasped for breath as my gaze bore into Eleanor, the familiar spark of longing and possession reigniting in me. With trepidation, I strode into the room and stood before Eleanor with my heart racing at the thought of facing my ex-wife. The tension between us rose with unspoken emotions as we stood there staring at each other like a deadpan. I could see the look of defiance, reluctance and hatred mirroring in her eyes as she gave me a dead glare, I couldn't blame her but myself for being so unreasonable in the past. “Good day President, Martinez,” she greeted coldly as she turned back to chat with the man beside her, not sparing me another glance. My heart clenched as my stomach flipped at the sight of the scene before me. Jealousy sprang up in me as I could only watch the duo chatting heartily, while clenching my fist to suppress my anger. “ This should've been us!” I kept echoing subconsciously within me. His heart pounded at the thought of not being able to win Eleanor over again. “Eleanor, can I have a word with you?,” I solicited. Reluctantly, she agreed to my request and asked her secretary to step out. “Go on, President Martinez,” she snapped. I understood why she treated me with contempt. But I couldn't bear the distance between us even though we were close. She intentionally kept a gap between us as she crossed her arm, standing in a bossy and defensive position waiting for me to speak. “Hmmp,” I cleared my throat and spoke hesitantly. “Ele, I understand that I'm not in the right disposition to speak to you but I want to sincerely apologise for my past actions and also want to let you know that I've regretted all my deeds,” I blurted out. Her eyes gleamed but darkened again. Everything was so fast. I was taken aback to the past Eleanor, who would've forgiven me right away. Subconsciously, I reached out to hold her hands but was rejected. “President Desmond, is this how you go about flirting at work?” She smirked. “I hope you know your stance,” Eleanor said coldly as she seethed with anger as she stormed out of the room, her heels clicking to the surface of the hard marble tiled floor. I watched as she smiled sweetly to other directors but acted as an alien to me. Once again, I rushed over to her holding on to her softly as I pleaded with her to give me one more chance. “Give us another chance, Eleanor, I pleaded.” “There'll definitely not be another mistake, Desmond,” she replied coldly as she shrugged off my hands and strode away as I stood there transfixed. “What of Grandpa?” I asked out of the blues. Eleanor stood abruptly as she heard the mention of Grandpa. Seeing an opportunity, I walked over to her. “Grandpa's birthday banquet is coming up in a few days, and it will be best if you come.” The old man has been blaming himself for your sudden disappearance. Seeing the indifference in her, I continued to talk hoping to stroke the right spot. “Eleanor, for the sake of Grandpa who has always loved you, free him of this guilt, I beg you,” I appealed frantically. l could see Eleanor's resolve breaking as I kept talking about grandpa which gave me the encouragement to keep begging her. At that moment, it was as if I could see a light at the end of the tunnel, as I smiled sadly inwardly. “President Martinez, can you let go of Miss Eleanor?” A voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I didn't even realize that I was in a public place. Meeting Eleanor's softened gaze I let go of her hands as I stood up to the weird eyes of everyone on me. “Do you want to ruin your reputation? Have you thought of what the media or public will say if this gets out?” Eleanor scolded. My heart raced with excitement as she scolded me even though I knew that she only cared about the family's reputation because of my old man. I couldn't help smiling as I apologized to her. “It's fine!” “ I'll attend grandpa's banquet,” Eleanor said and strode away. Snapping out of my thoughts, I strode to the car park “Take me to the family mansion,” I ordered my chauffeur. While the drive was going on, I couldn't help but think of grandpa's reaction when he heard that Eleanor had returned to the city. My grin widened as I imagined grandpa's subtle reaction. I and Grandpa have not really been on the good side since Eleanor's disappear. Grandfather blamed me for her disappearance. Now, seeing Eleanor has not only brought hope, but will restore the peace between I and my old man. This was going to be his best birthday present ever, I breathed in relief. After a while, I arrived at the family mansion and headed to grandpa's bedroom. My steps faltered when I heard grandpa laughing heartily with a hushed voice in the living room. I wondered who could made Grandpa so happy. Curiously, I strode into the living room to find Grandpa chatting lively with a guest we never expected to come around so soon. “Eleanor!!!!,” I called out shocked.
