Chapter nine: I don’t know

Gabriel’s POV

After that question Mathew asked me,i wasn’t able to come up with a reasonable answer,so I decided to make an excuse to leave the place.

“I will go see what summer is doing now”i said

“Really Gabriel,you wife is inside there,you don’t know when she’s waking up and you want to leave?”James asked getting pissed of.

“What else can I do,it’s not like my staying here will help in anyway.so?”I said weakly,it was true,staying or leaving would makes no different to Becky when she wakes up she is still going to do what she wants,I can’t even tell her anything,what am going to say when she wakes?.

“Becky is in there because of the cake summer gave her,and you’re in a haste to see the same summer,what has come over you don’t you know how to think?”Mathew ask warmly

“So you’re saying that summer poisoned her?”I asked in shock, “how can Summer the ever kind hearted woman do such a thing,I have been dating her for three years man,and all of a sudden she just changed into a killer?”i asked

“I didn’t say she poisoned it,Come on the heart of a woman is not something you just conclude with,during those three years she has been nice all because you were all hers and,now that you have married is she still the same way she was?”Mathew ask.

Is summer still the girl she was?

“We’re leaving”James said,and both friends left leaving me alone in thoughts and feelings that i have never had or felt before.I somehow felt ashamed to go to the ward the family were,so I want to summer’s apartment.

On getting there I saw her crying,in different cases would feel pain in my heart but right now it’s just nothing,I don’t even know why I am here,her tears used to move me but now,am irritated,I don’t know what is all this and I don’t want to know either.

When she saw me standing at the door looking at her,she stood up and walked towards me holding my hands

“You trust me right ?,I didn’t do anything,you were there when i asked meg the servant to cut the piece of cake right?,you saw her giving it to me and we left together right? Gabriel What if I was the one who...who ate the cake..w-what What would have happened to me?”she asked breaking down in tears.What would have happened to her?i can’t imagine her in the situation that Becky is right now.

“God knows that you’re so pure in heart he wouldn’t have let any thing happen to you”I said hugging her tightly

“I didn’t do anything......I-i didn’t d-do anything”she murmurs still crying.After been able to calm her down she was asleep so I left and went home.

Now the question is who poisoned the cake? I already called meg and asked her some few questions but she said no one entered the kitchen after she left to fetch the foil use in rapping the cake,and i believed her cause she has been working for summer ever since I bought the apartment,and summer hasn’t made any complains about her.So who poisoned the cake while meg went to get the foil,I remembered summer telling me that she forgot her purse inside her room and she went straight to her room,she didn’t not branched anywhere.With these thoughts i drifted away to sleep.

The next morning,I woke up late due to the sleepless night I had.I wanted to go the hospital before going to the office to see how things were fairing.At the hospital I bought some provisions that patients need when they are hospitalized,I opened and stepped in only to be greeted with a slap,when I recovered from the slap I looked up and saw my mom angry face, “mom you’re here”I said trying to compose myself,she has slapped me in the presence of Becky’s parents and Andy,they were still on yesterday’s clothes,they probably hasn’t gone home yesterday.Andy gave me a smirk before turning her face away.

“What nonsense did you do yesterday Gabriel?”my mom asked.I bet they must have told her everything and I know that Andy of a friend would go to any extent just so I deserve this slap.

“They must have told you already,and besides summer is not responsible for it,i was with her the whole time yesterday morning”I tried to explain things.

“Good morning sir,ma’am”I greeted my in-laws and only Mrs Nicholas nodded in response,the other man was as cold as ice,i took a quick look at the body lying in the bed motionless,Becky’s face was pale she looks weak,her hair was scattered across her face,I wish I could tuck them in for her but Andy did it.The site of seeing her like this makes my heart arch in pain,I never felt this way not even for summer.

“You’re lucky that you’re Dad is not around how will you explain this Gabriel,I understand that you don love her,but why would you do this to her even when she is in sick bed all because of the cake that girl gave her.And from what I heard you scolded Summer for eating your wife’s food calming that she might hurt your beloved.despite all that Becky still ate the cake given to her your summer,the second woman in her marriage,the mistress Gabriel!!”Mrs Brown shouted.All the while I couldn’t say or do anything,the whole words just seems true,summer is the second woman for Becky and a mistress for me.Since I became the black sheep standing there doing nothing other than getting glares from Andy and my mom would not stop embarrassing me,I choose to leave the hospital.

“Am sorry for my son’s behavior,he was never like this I don’t know what has happened to him,please forgive him”Mrs Brown plead

“It’s okay,it was expected....but I wouldn’t want to see that summer of a girl close to my daughter again,he can keep his affairs out side the house”mr Nicholas warm and stood up

“I will leave now please do take care of her”he said giving his wife a quick kiss before leaving.

“Aunty I have to go,there is some important issues I need to sort out,I promise I will come see you two when she wakes”Andy said and gave Mrs Nicholas a hug

“Thanks for your support”Mrs Brown said to her,Andy left leaving the two women alone with Becky.The room was silent you could only hear the beeping sound of the monitor.

Minutes turns into hours,hours into days,Becky was still unconscious of what was happening around her though the doctor said she would be fine,in the eyes of the family they felt that she was drifting away into the eternal sleep,nothing seems to be working,though the nurses administered drugs daily saying Becky was co-operating,she just remained motionless,her eye lashes stay glued to her eyes,the only thing that gave them hope was that she was not so pale as before.James and Mathew do come visit every week end,Andy Comes three times a week,Mrs Nicholas stayed the whole weeks sitting with her daughter.When mr Brown heard the news he rushed down home,every one was not in a mood to talk too much.As for Gabriel,he some how became distant from every one,he hardly called summer even James and Mathew gave him cold shoulder,each day he was at the hospital they rarely say a word to him,he just sit there and fixed his eyes on Becky,even when summer came to the hospital to see how things were going,the family refused to let her in.

Life seems to be moving slow for every one.
