The Wedding No One Could Know
Ava Carter stood alone in the grand chapel, her hands trembling beneath the delicate white veil that covered her face. The room was silent except for the ticking of the antique clock mounted on the marble wall.
This was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.
Instead, it felt like the beginning of a prison sentence.
Just three days earlier, her father had collapsed after learning that the family business was drowning in debt. The banks had refused to help, relatives had disappeared, and every door she knocked on had been slammed in her face.
Then came the offer.
Marry Ethan Blackwood.
The youngest billionaire in the country.
One of the most powerful men in the business world.
There was only one condition.
No one could ever know they were husband and wife.
Their marriage would remain a secret.
No wedding guests.
No photographs.
No wedding rings to show the world.
No love.
Ava took a deep breath as the chapel doors opened.
The sound of polished shoes echoed across the floor.
Ethan Blackwood entered without looking at her. Tall, calm, and impossibly handsome, he wore a tailored black suit that matched the cold expression on his face.
He stopped beside her.
"I hope you understand the rules," he said without emotion.
"You will never introduce yourself as Mrs. Blackwood."
"You will never interfere with my private life."
"And if anyone discovers this marriage, it ends immediately."
Ava swallowed the lump in her throat.
"So... I'm only your wife on paper?"
For the first time, Ethan turned to face her.
His dark eyes were unreadable.
"Exactly."
Those single words shattered every tiny hope she had left.
The priest quietly began the ceremony.
Within minutes, they exchanged vows that neither of them truly believed.
No applause followed.
No celebration.
Only silence.
As they signed the marriage certificate, Ethan leaned closer and whispered something that made Ava's heart stop.
"From today onward, your life belongs to me."
