AFTER an hour of travel, Elijah and his group finally arrived at the residence of Congressman Dimaano. Given the incident at the club, it was highly possible the man had already fled, yet they still headed straight for the house. Elijah was certain Dimaano would never abandon the home he built with money stolen from the nation’s coffers.
They stopped at a distance from the gate. From where they were, numerous armed guards were visibly patrolling the perimeter.
"It looks like Congressman Dimaano is already on high alert," Samara observed. "But even knowing he could be attacked here, he really didn't leave."
"His house is worth millions. Do you honestly think he would abandon his property?" Elijah stated flatly.
Samara turned to him. "Is his house more important to him than his own life?"
"Greedy people value their possessions more than their lives," Elijah replied.
Just then, Taddeo knocked on the window beside Samara. She quickly rolled it down. Taddeo looked surprised to see her, but he immediately shifted his gaze to Elijah, who was staring straight ahead, unreadable.
"Are we going in now?" Samara asked, making Taddeo look back at her.
"My twin is still assessing how many of Dimaano’s men are scattered around. Once we know the number, we will adva---"
"---You will stay here in the car," Elijah cut him off.
Both Taddeo and Samara turned to him in shock.
"M-Me, Il Capo?" Taddeo pointed to himself.
Elijah gave him a blank stare. "Not you. Her."
Samara pointed to her own chest, bewildered. "Me? You’re leaving me behind in the car?! You know that i tag along—to help save Saul’s daughter!"
"We can save his daughter even without you. So stay put, and don't even think about following us," Elijah said firmly.
Samara pouted, clearly displeased. "Then what was the point of me coming if I’m just going to be useless?"
"It’s alright, Silas," Taddeo patted her back. "Rest assured, we will bring Saul’s daughter back safely."
"But I want to help! I can fight too, even if I’m a woman!" she insisted.
Elijah let out a soft sigh.
"Just follow ord---"
"---Fine, I’ll let you join us," Elijah interrupted Taddeo, surprising both him and Samara. "But you will stay right beside me. And you are not to do anything until I say so."
Taddeo stared at their Don in shock. The change in decision was too sudden.
"Why would I agree to that if I can't even do any---"
"---If you don't want to, then stay here in the car and wait. You have no other choice, Samara."
Samara gritted her teeth. She had no other option. "Fine! I hate sitting around looking stupid. But if danger comes, I’m taking char---"
"---You will not do anything until I say so," Elijah repeated sternly.
Samara turned to Taddeo with a scowl. "Your boss is so annoying to talk to, Taddeo."
Taddeo just remained silent, feeling like he was witnessing a lovers' quarrel.
"Why are you just standing there staring like an i***t, Taddeo?" Samara asked.
Vito arrived just in time, his eyes widening slightly when he saw Samara sitting inside Elijah’s personal vehicle.
"You let her ride in your car, Penelton?" Vito questioned, looking confused.
"W-Why? Is it forbidden? Mr. Penelton allowed me to sit here! I told him i will ride with you but he said i have no other choice." Samara defended herself quickly.
Elijah ignored the exchange and looked at Vito. "Are we ready?"
Vito decided to let the matter slide for now. "Yes. Thirteen of Dimaano’s men are scattered around the house. We can breach the perimeter and give him a warm welcome."
"Then let's move in. Make sure you leave none of his men alive... except for him and his family," Elijah ordered.
"As you wish, Penel---"
"---Wait! Are you really going to kill his family too?" Samara cut in. "They have nothing to do with his crimes! Please don't involve the innocents!"
"It is not your place to decide, Silas," Vito said seriously. "Innocent or not, we cannot leave anyone alive tonight. You’ve been with Senza long enough to know how this works."
Samara fell silent. Vito was right. For years, Senza Pièta had shown no mercy to anyone who stood against them, regardless of age or gender. If they were connected to the enemy, they were considered part of the war.
"I... I know that..."
Elijah looked at her. He noticed the faint sadness shadowing her expression.
"Kill Dimaano's men," Elijah spoke suddenly. "Leave the Congressman to me. And do not harm any members of his family."
Everyone turned to him in shock.
"Are you saying... we spare them, Penelton?"
"You heard me correctly, Benitez. Let's go."
Elijah stepped out of the car. Samara felt a secret surge of relief and happiness.
Maybe he isn't completely self-centered after all. Fine, I take back what I thought. The Don of Senza actually has a heart, she mused, following him out.
"Does Il Capo have a twin, Benitez?" Taddeo whispered as they walked. "The person we saw earlier felt so different."
"Penelton doesn't have a twin, but something has definitely changed in him," Vito replied lowly. "Is this what Casimiro was talking about? He hasn't been himself ever since he met Silas."
"Shocking, isn't it? Twinnie even assessed that Il Capo might actually have feelings for her. Looks like it was love at first punch for our boss."
"It wouldn't be impossible," Vito muttered.
"Why do you say that? Do you think Il Capo really likes Silas?" Taddeo asked.
Vito sighed. "It seemed impossible before because Penelton had zero interest in such things. Emotions didn't exist in his dictionary. But these changes... they aren't normal. Penelton never spared lives before, not even women. He didn't care about anyone in the organization, even if their families got caught in the crossfire. And now... he let Silas ride in his car? He won't even let us do that. Let's not jump to conclusions yet, but keep your eyes open."
Vito walked ahead, leaving Taddeo scratching his head.
"If Il Capo really likes her... does that mean Silas is going to be our Boss Lady?" Taddeo grinned, hurrying to catch up.
AT Elijah’s signal, they stormed the residence. Gunshots rang out immediately as Dimaano’s men tried to defend their territory. But one by one, they fell, lifeless, against Senza’s elite force. Samara was no longer impressed—she knew exactly how lethal Elijah’s underbosses and soldiers were.
Elijah and Samara walked calmly through the chaos while Vito and the others handled the resistance.
"You guys handle things out here, Benitez. I will face Dimaano with Tieves," Elijah ordered.
"Understood. Leave this to us, Penelton."
"Am I coming with you inside?" Samara asked.
Elijah glanced at her. "What did I tell you?"
"That I have to stick with you. Right," she smiled. "Let's go inside before Dimaano gets impatient waiting for us."
She started walking ahead, but Elijah’s cold glare at her back made her scowl and slow down.
"So bossy..."
"Let's go, Silas. We shouldn't keep Il Capo waiting," Saul said, following behind.
As gunfire continued outside, they reached the main hall. Three men blocked the staircase leading to the second floor, aiming their weapons directly at Elijah.
"You go no further! Take one more step, and you’ll be carried out of here as corpses!" one of them shouted.
"Judging by the way you're blocking the stairs, your boss is upstairs," Elijah said coldly. "Do you really think your threats scare me?"
"If I were you, I’d just let him pass," Samara chimed in with a smirk. "Because even if you point your guns at him, you won’t be able to land a single bullet. He didn't become the Don of Senza for nothing. So please... excuse us."
The men immediately shifted their aim to her.
"Don't try to frighten us, woman! What chance does your boss have against our guns? Stop boasting or you’ll be the first one to die!"
"Excuse me?! I’m not boasting! I’m actually warning you so you don't get killed so quick---"
Before she could finish, Elijah stepped in front of her, shielding her completely.
"I will spare your lives if you let us pass," he said calmly.
"You think we’ll believe that? You should be the one begging for mercy! There are three of us with guns!" the man sneered.
Suddenly, Samara stepped forward, standing beside Elijah, surprising everyone.
"Give these three to me and Saul, Mr. Penelton. We can handle them easily. Don't waste your time on these cowards," she declared, glancing at Saul for backup.
"Y-You're right. Il Capo, Leave these three to us!" Saul stammered.
"See? Leave it to us," Samara beamed.
"I don't know where you're getting your courage from, but do you really think I'd let you face them alone? Not on my f*****g watch."
Three rapid shots echoed. Samara almost shrieked. She didn't even see Elijah draw his weapon, yet the three men were already collapsing to the floor, each with a precise bullet hole in their foreheads.
"Let's go," Elijah said nonchalantly, stepping over the bodies and heading up the stairs.
Samara and Saul were left frozen in shock, staring at their Don in awe.
"Did you see that?!" Samara whispered to Saul.
"N-No! One moment they were talking, the next... Il Capo just shot them all!"
"He really is the Don for a reason. Is he even human? He’s like lightning!"
Elijah stopped halfway up the stairs and looked back. "What are you two standing there for?"
They scrambled up the stairs quickly.
"You were amazing back there, Mr. Penelton!" Samara gave him a thumbs up, then turned to Saul.
"Our don is very impre---"
"Stay at least five centimeters away from her," Elijah interrupted sharply, looking at Saul. "And don't speak to her as if you are close to her."
Samara frowned in confusion. "Who are you telling to stay away?"
Saul, understanding the order immediately, took several large steps backward, putting distance between himself and Samara.
"Oh? Why are you suddenly moving away?"
"Let's go. We still have a rat to find," Elijah said, resuming his ascent.
Samara was utterly baffled. Every time she tried to walk near Saul again, he would hurriedly move away.
"What's your problem, Saul?" she asked.
"Don't come near me, Silas! I value my life!" Saul pleaded, confusing her even more.
"What? What does that mean?"
"Walk beside me, Samara," Elijah called out sternly, "or I will send you back to the car."
Samara quickly rushed to his side. "Okay, okay! I'm walking right beside you now, boss. Tss! So bossy..." she muttered, still wondering why Saul was acting so strangely.
