Chapter 1 - Arranged Marriage with Stranger
"WHY the hell me, mom?!"
Anikka couldn't stop the rush of her emotions when she heard what her mother said. She was so stressed in finding ways to save their company from the downfall when her mom suddenly called her to go to the President's Office, which is her dad's office to talk about something.
And this is what they talked about.
"Anikka, this is not easy for us too."
She rolled her eyes. "I don't think so, mom. You won't be the ones who will suffer for the rest of your life because you won't be the ones getting married!"
Yes. That's right.
Her parents will marry her to a man she doesn't know and has never seen because their company is on the verge of sinking.
Fuck.
She hardly sleeps well, thinking about what strategy she will use to attract investors to invest in their company. Then here are her parents and they think differently.
"Believe me, Anikka. This is too much to bear with us too."
She raised her eyebrows. "Then cancel the wedding."
"W-We already said yes—"
"f**k!" She couldn't help but scoff.
Did her parents think it was that easy? Didn't they think about what effect that would have on her future?
She has dreams to achieve. She has goals in life. She has her own life.
But why did her parents take away her freedom to choose the path to take?
Anikka couldn't stand what she was hearing. If her parents are struggling, how come she will be? She will be put in a situation she doesn't want. She will suffer for the rest of her life.
Her father approached her and held her both shoulders. "Anikka, calm down. We have plans. After we recover from the company, we will give all the money they give us. In that way, you can be free. We promised you that, daughter."
Anikka glared at her father. "Do you think it's that easy, dad? You are the President of this company. You shouldn't think like that!"
"This is the only way, Anikka." Her dad can't look straight in her eyes.
"So the company matters to you the most? Is the company more important to you than me? That you can throw me away to save this f*****g company?!"
Her mother intervened. "A-Anikka—"
Her mother tried to touch her.
"No, mom. Cancel the wedding. I don't want to marry a guy I don't love."
"But we already agreed—"
She didn't let them finish. "Take it back."
"We still need to pay."
"For what?" Anikka frowned.
Her father took a deep breath before speaking.
"They have given an advance payment and I have used the money for our company's advertisement. You know how expensive that is—"
"How are you able to do this to me? You are my parents. You supposedly..." She didn't finish what she was going to say when tears suddenly rolled down her cheeks. "I don't want this."
"I'm s-so sorry."
Anikka could not bear the weight of her feelings. After all that she did to save their company, this is what she will get. After all the sacrifices and efforts.
She took a deep breath before violently wiping the tears from his cheeks. "How much do we have to pay to stop the marriage?"
"Two hundred million dollars."
"That huge?!" She yelled in shock. "Where are we going to get that much money?"
"We can get that back too, Anikka. Once our company is in order."
Two hundred million dollars was too big!
And Anikka already knows that it is impossible for her to pay that soon so that the marriage cannot go ahead.
"I can't take this anymore!" She shouted then turned her back on her parents.
"Anikka, where are you going?!"
They tried to stop her but her steps were quick.
And when she was at the door she looked at them.
"I'm not going to escape!"
That's what she said before leaving the President's Office to walk down the basement away from that company.
"INSTEAD of crying and wasting your energy since we have no idea to stop your wedding, just join me tonight," urged her cousin Kaye as she cried.
She went to her cousin's condo straight from their company. Kaye is considered her best friend so she immediately went to her to vent her madness.
"I need a friend to lean on, Kaye!" she sulked.
Kaye laughed. "I know, right? That's why we're going to the Island of Hell."
"Where is that?" She frowned. The name of that place was familiar to her but she couldn't remember where she heard it. "W-Wait… Don't tell me?"
Kaye nodded as she remembered that place. She had never been there but she knew what was on the Island of Hell.
"Yes. I have an invitation from Cierro."
Cierro? That name is new in her ears.
"Is he your boyfriend?" she asked.
Kaye closed her eyes, as if feeling the wind blowing. "I wish he was. But he was just my friend."
Anikka laughed out loud. "Friend zone."
Kaye rolled her eyes. "I know, so let's go?"
"THE hell with your things, Anikka! You look like you're going to live here for the rest of your life! You only have two days to live being single and that means you will stay here for two days only. Did you bring your house?" Kaye complained while helping Anikka carry her belongings.
Kaye is right. She did bring a lot of things. That's how she is. She is not satisfied with a few things because she is afraid of running out of clothes to wear.
And Kaye was right again. They would only stay here for two days since she told her parents about coming to the island so they wouldn't worry, Anikka found out that she would be flying to Australia after two days.
There will be a wedding that she can't escape. And because she knew what was being done here on the Island of Hell, she thought about destroying her life before it was destroyed by a man she didn't know.
Yes. She's here to live her life to the fullest. And that means, she's here to wreck her life.
She would not leave this place if she was still innocent. Who knows? Her future husband might suddenly dislike her as she is no longer a virgin woman?
Anikka rolled her eyes in annoyance. "Come on. Just help me with this."
They are on the island now. It was very difficult for her to carry her things to the elevator because they were currently in the hotel lobby. She also doesn't see any staff that can help them.
Kaye stopped walking and looked at her. "I'll just put this in my room. Wait for me here and I'll help you, okay?"
She just nodded in response as she ran out of energy. They haven't had dinner yet. And she was hungry so she didn't have enough energy.
When Kaye left in the elevator, she decided to sit in the waiting area in the lobby and tiredly looked at the beauty of the surroundings outside the large glass wall.
It was dark but she could still clearly see the sparkle of the water caused by the light coming from the bright moon.
Because of the attractive appearance of the ocean, even though Anikka was tired, she got up to go out. She was carrying a suitcase and a bag.
But before she could get out, someone spoke behind her.
"Need help?"
She turned where the voice was coming from. And her mouth almost dropped when she saw how handsome the man in front of her was.
Damn! Are all the men on this island really this handsome?
Is it because of men like this that many women come here?
She didn't know why her throat suddenly became dry. She just stared at his handsome face.
He was wearing a polo shirt but she felt like she could see his hard abs through it.
For a virgin like her, steamy scenes seem to have been painted in her mind as she watched the man.
"Hey."
Damn. That baritone voice.
Her mind returned to reality.
"Do you need help?" The man asked again.
Since she was here to mess with her life, she didn't refuse anymore. After all, that's the reason why she's here.
"Yes." She did her best not to stutter.
"Single?"
The side of her lips rose. "Y-Yes."
She's single for two days and after that, she will be married.
"Virgin?"
She didn't show that she was surprised. Anikka heard that the men here on the island do not like virgin women.
Therefore, she quickly shook her head. "Of course not."
She saw the man grinning at her and scanned her entire body.
"Then, do you want to have dinner with me?"
Anikka swallowed. "Are you asking me on a date?"
This man is fast.
"If that's what you call that." The man looked at the ocean for a moment and turned his attention back to her. "I don't usually ask a woman to have dinner with me."
"Then why did you ask me?"
"To eat you later after dinner."
She swallowed again. He is straightforward.
"O-Okay," she agreed. Anikka is nervous but here she is. And she did not want to waste the grace that was in front of her.
"So, it's yes?" She nodded and saw how the man's face lit up. "Don't worry, I don't have plans on f*****g you here."
Her eyes widened. "I am not thinking of that—"
"But I will later." She was surprised when the young man extended his hand to have a handshake. "Trevor."
Trevor... he has a nice name. His mother was so great to choose that name. It suits him.
She gladly accepted his hands. "Anikka."
She was about to take her hand back from the young man but he didn't let go.
"So, Anikka. Do you want to have dinner with me… and eat you later after dinner?"
