Chapter 1
Alyssa's pov "Dad!!!" I screamed for the fifth time in three minutes. "I don't need someone following my every move." "Honey, please" he groaned, massaging his temples. "I need to ensure your safety, okay." I crossed my arms, huffing while he continued. "I...I know you didn't want any of this but it's what we've got. I hope you understand." he said before leaving the office. I sighed as I stood up from the seat. I knew deep down that he was right. this was for my safety. As much as I don't want it; I'm getting a bodyguard. My name's Alyssa Waterson. I'm the first and only child of Derrick Waterson, wealthiest businessman in California and third richest in all of America. Now I know what you're probably thinking. Give us a break. you're just another rich girl that don't like the wealth and blah blah blah. Well you're right. I never liked all the wealth I grew up with because believe it or not, when you're the only child of a fabulously wealthy dude, you only get the butt of the stick. Growing up as a child wasn't easy. I didn't have much friends as it was difficult to find someone who saw me and not wads of cash. I couldn't take five steps out of the house, let alone attend any sleepovers. What about your mother? Funny you should ask. While daughter dearest was going through that terrible phase, mother dearest was too busy plotting the demise of her husband; my father. Turns out the witch was all for the money, nothing else. Thank the heavens that I walked in at the right time. Imagine walking in on your mom holding a pillow inches away from your unconscious father's face...with a freaking smirk. Awkward was an understatement. I chuckled slightly at the memory, though it wasn't funny at that time. I make my way out of dad's office as I stroll to my room. I lay on my king sized bed, staring at the ceiling. As expected, the plain white ceiling stare back. I should think of decorating. I turn to my side, letting sleep slowly engulf me when a deafening siren echoed through the mansion, making me shoot out of my bed in realization. Someone has broken in...again. This was becoming a routine. Three weeks ago, my father held a gala to officially present the Waterson crest to the world. It looked like a badge but it's made with pure platinum and gold. It will also be used as a seal in my dad's company. Ever since that day, hoodlums have been breaking into the mansion, attempting to steal it. Thanks to my dad's technicians, the door to the room which houses the crest is passcoded and can't be opened by just anyone; thus the alarm. I run to my door as I attempt to lock it. It was a something my dad made me do whenever the alarm goes off, as these thief would take anything as long as it's from the Waterson mansion. Last week, a dude tried jacking my dad's piano. Dude threw his back out. I about to lock the door when it's suddenly flung open and a guy dashes into the room, stumbling into me. We both end up on the floor, with him on top. He was wearing a janitor's outfit and had a greying beard that looked....fake? I gasp and saw his blue eyes widen in shock as he stood up abruptly, locking my door. Oh no... He is the thief!! "Dad! Dad!!" I screamed my lungs out as I could literally see the panic in this guy. "Crud." he muttered before glancing at the window and instantly making a run towards it. He was going to... "Stop!!" I screamed again in fear but it was too late as the genius just jumped from the third floor. "Alyssa!" Dad called as the door breaks open, revealing him and the chief guard, Austin. Dad instantly rushed to me, pulling me into an embrace. "Are you okay?" "Yes. But...the guy...he jumped off the.." I stuttered, pointing out the window. "Austin. Go check it out." He ordered. "Sir. I don't think it matters if he's alive or not. He's a thief." The man said, scoffing. "That doesn't mean he's not a human." I countered. Did I mention Austin was a proud and selfish man? "Look..." he started but was quickly cut off by a gunshot. It came from outside. The three of us rush to my window, all gasping at the sight. The man that had just jumped down was running towards the gate, dodging all the bullets being shot at him....or maybe the guards all have bad aim. It was impressive. "Bring me that man." Dad said, smirking. "Why, sir?" Austin said, irritated. "No questions. Bring him to me, alive." Austin muttered something under his breath before speaking into his microphone. "Hold fire. Boss wants him alive." he said, leaving the room. "Why do you want him?" I asked my dad, curiously. "You know soon enough." He said, before leaving the room. I stayed for some minutes, watching as the fake bearded man was tied up by the guards to restrict his running before he was tased by Austin. But not before leaving a punch or two which brought a small smile to my face. What an eventful day.
