The Luna She Dreamed to Be
The scent of white roses drifted through the Ashford estate, mingling with fresh pine and the faint sweetness of moon lilies that had been woven into every archway.
It was a scent Aurora Ashford had imagined since she was sixteen.
Her wedding day.
She stood before the floor-length mirror in her bedroom while the morning sun poured through the tall windows, turning the delicate embroidery of her white gown into shimmering silver. Tiny crystals stitched into the fabric caught the light like scattered stars.
A soft knock sounded on the door.
"May I come in?"
Aurora smiled at the familiar voice.
"Come in."
The elderly woman who stepped inside carried a small velvet box in her wrinkled hands. Martha had served the Ashford family for nearly forty years. Though everyone called her a servant, Aurora had always thought of her as family.
Martha's eyes watered the moment she saw Aurora.
"Oh, my dear..." she whispered. "Your mother would have been so proud."
Aurora's smile trembled.
"I wish she were here."
Martha crossed the room and gently brushed a loose strand of blonde hair behind Aurora's ear.
"So do I."
For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Aurora reached for the silver crescent-moon necklace resting on the dressing table. It was simple compared to the extravagant jewels prepared for today's ceremony.
Its chain had faded with age.
The moonstone at its center had a tiny c***k running across it.
It wasn't valuable.
But it had belonged to her mother.
Aurora fastened it around her neck.
"I'll wear this instead."
Martha frowned.
"Your stepmother prepared the diamond set."
"I know."
Aurora touched the necklace gently.
"But this makes me feel like she's with me."
Martha nodded without another word.
She understood.
Outside, music floated through the open window.
Guests had already begun arriving.
The entire Silver Moon Pack was gathering for the ceremony.
Not just because Aurora was getting married.
Because she was marrying Alpha Ethan Storm.
The future Alpha.
The future Luna.
Aurora closed her eyes.
She could almost picture it.
Standing beside Ethan before the sacred Moon Altar.
Taking the Luna Oath.
Leading the pack together.
Building schools for Omega children.
Creating businesses that offered opportunities regardless of rank.
She had pages filled with plans hidden inside her desk.
Most people believed a Luna's job was decorating ceremonies and organizing charity banquets.
Aurora wanted more.
She wanted every wolf in the pack to feel seen.
Even Omegas.
Especially Omegas.
A sharp voice shattered her thoughts.
"Still staring at yourself?"
The bedroom door swung open without waiting for permission.
Luna Evelyn Ashford entered wearing an emerald-green dress trimmed with expensive fur. Every jewel around her neck glittered under the sunlight.
Behind her came Selena.
Aurora's stepsister.
Selena looked breathtaking in a champagne-colored gown that hugged her figure perfectly.
She smiled.
The smile never reached her eyes.
"There you are," Evelyn said, her gaze sweeping over Aurora's dress. "The guests are beginning to wonder if the bride plans to appear."
"I was just getting ready."
Evelyn's eyes settled on the necklace.
"What is that?"
Aurora instinctively covered it.
"My mother's."
"I specifically selected the Ashford diamonds."
"They're beautiful," Aurora answered carefully. "But I'd rather wear this today."
Evelyn's expression hardened.
"You never learn."
Selena sighed dramatically.
"Oh, Mother, let her wear it."
She tilted her head toward Aurora.
"It actually fits."
Aurora blinked.
"What do you mean?"
Selena's lips curled.
"It's... modest."
The room fell silent.
Even Martha looked uncomfortable.
Aurora forced herself to smile.
"I like modest."
"You always have."
Selena stepped closer.
"So simple."
"So ordinary."
"So..."
She paused deliberately.
"...Omega."
Martha inhaled sharply.
"Miss Selena—"
"It's fine," Aurora interrupted gently.
She refused to argue.
Not today.
Today was supposed to be happy.
Evelyn straightened Aurora's veil with movements that were almost rough.
"Remember something."
Aurora looked at her.
"When you become Luna today, every mistake you make reflects on this family."
"I understand."
"No."
Evelyn leaned closer.
"Do you?"
Her perfume was overwhelming.
"The pack already questions whether an Omega from your bloodline deserves to stand beside the future Alpha."
Aurora's smile slowly faded.
"You have spent years trying to convince them otherwise."
"I've worked hard."
"You've barely done enough."
Selena laughed softly.
"Mother worries too much."
She linked her arm through Evelyn's.
"After all..."
She looked directly into Aurora's eyes.
"Everything will work out exactly as it's meant to."
Something about the sentence made Aurora's stomach tighten.
Before she could respond, Selena turned toward the door.
"We should go."
The two women left together.
The bedroom suddenly felt colder.
Martha exhaled slowly.
"I don't trust that girl."
Aurora looked toward the hallway.
"Selena?"
Martha nodded.
"She smiles too sweetly."
Aurora chuckled softly.
"She's always been competitive."
"Competitive isn't the word I'd use."
Martha hesitated.
"As your mother used to say..."
"When someone keeps reaching for what belongs to you..."
Aurora finished quietly.
"...they eventually stop asking permission."
Martha's worried eyes met hers.
"Be careful today."
Aurora forced another reassuring smile.
"I've waited years for this."
She looked at her reflection once more.
Everything was perfect.
The dress.
The flowers.
The decorations.
The guests.
The future she'd dreamed about.
Nothing could ruin today.
Across the estate, inside the Alpha Manor's private conference room, Ethan Storm stared out the window.
His tailored ceremonial suit fit him perfectly.
He should have looked like the happiest man in the pack.
Instead...
He looked distracted.
A knock sounded.
"Come in."
Selena slipped inside before quietly locking the door behind her.
Ethan frowned.
"You shouldn't be here."
"Why?"
She walked closer.
"In a few hours I'll be family."
He glanced toward the door.
"If someone sees us—"
"They won't."
She stopped only inches away.
"You look nervous."
"I'm getting married."
"Are you?"
His jaw tightened.
"What does that mean?"
Selena smiled faintly.
"It means you're about to make the biggest decision of your life."
"I already have."
"Have you?"
She circled him slowly.
"Or are you settling?"
Ethan remained silent.
She noticed.
"You'll become Alpha within the year."
"Yes."
"And Aurora..."
She shrugged.
"...is just Aurora."
His eyes narrowed.
"She's kind."
"Kind doesn't strengthen alliances."
"She's loyal."
"Loyal doesn't expand territories."
Ethan turned away.
Selena stepped closer again.
"Our family controls three trade routes."
"My uncle sits on the Alpha Council."
"Our supporters outnumber Aurora's."
She lowered her voice.
"If you truly want Silver Moon Pack to become the strongest in the region..."
She placed one finger against his chest.
"...you already know who should stand beside you."
For several long seconds...
Neither of them moved.
Outside, wedding bells began ringing.
Selena smiled.
"The ceremony starts soon."
She brushed invisible dust from his shoulder.
"Think carefully."
Then she walked away.
Leaving Ethan alone with thoughts that refused to stay buried.
Back in her room, Aurora took one final look at herself.
She wasn't the most beautiful woman in the pack.
She wasn't the strongest.
She wasn't born into the most powerful bloodline.
But she loved Ethan.
She believed he loved her too.
Sometimes...
She thought...
That was enough.
Someone knocked again.
"The ceremony is ready."
Aurora drew a deep breath.
She picked up her bouquet.
Adjusted the necklace resting over her heart.
And stepped toward the door...
Completely unaware that before the sun set, everything she believed about love, family, and destiny would be reduced to ashes.
As Aurora walks toward the ceremony, Ethan stands frozen in another room, Selena's words echoing in his mind—"If you truly want Silver Moon Pack to become the strongest... you already know who should stand beside you." The decision that will destroy Aurora's world is only moments away.
