THE WONDER CHILD

418 Words
In a town, called Adze A Nyame Ayԑ lived Mr. Godfred Arthur and Mrs. Cecilia Arthur. Mr. Arthur was a driver at Versatile Transit and his wife, a trader. The couple lived with their four years old son, the very brilliant Papa Kwesi. He was first in every test conducted in the school. His parents were proud of him. The Arthur family happened to be a Christian one. It is said that, before Papa Kwesi Arthur was born, Mr. Arthur was jobless. All expenses were on Mrs. Arthur. It was so difficult that when she got pregnant, Mr. Arthur asked his wife to terminate the baby, which Mrs. Arthur refused. The couple held this grudge for weeks until Mrs. Arthur decided to get rid of the pregnancy. She got an abortion pill from the d**g store. After taking it, she felt excruciating pains at her lower abdomen as blood cloth gently crawled down her thighs. Mr. Arthur rushed her to the hospital. The doctor advised Mrs. Arthur not to try abortion again; for if she did, she will be laid in a wooden box. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur thought it was over; they could now concentrate on only themselves. Four months later to their surprise, Mrs. Arthur’s belly started getting bigger and bigger. Consequently, they went to the hospital again to find out the why and how behind the what. Fortunately, they met the same doctor from their previous visit. When they told him the problem he said, ‘Sorry I didn’t tell you earlier, but your child is healthy, the pill you took didn’t affect him.’ ‘How is this possible? We saw blood cloth come out,’ said Mr. Arthur. ‘To tell you the truth, I was surprised when I found out your child was okay. Believe me you, this is no ordinary child,’ said the doctor. After saying this, he turned to Mrs. Arthur and said, ‘Take good care of yourself and of this wonder child you are bearing’. ‘But how can a jobless man take care of a child?’ asked Mr. Arthur. The doctor replied, ‘It is God who takes care of us’. Then came a distant voice, ‘Doctor Maxwell, you are needed’. Months later, Mrs. Arthur gave birth to a bouncing baby boy and was named, Papa Kwesi Arthur. He was named Papa Kwesi because he was born on a Sunday to Fante parents. A week after his birth, Mr. Arthur received an appointment letter from the Versatile Transit.
