Chapter eight

1421 Words
Vivian’s POV As the speeding car approached, my eyes widened in terror. That maniac Dominic Blackwood! James scott was also startled by the sudden situation, his limbs feeling unresponsive. I yanked the steering wheel hard, sending the car crashing into the greenery. Dominic’s car scraped against the side of a Mercedes, producing a screeching sound that left a glaring scratch on the luxury vehicle. James scott watched the car speed away, then glanced at the damaged Mercedes, his anger boiling over. "Damn it! He hit my car and just ran off! I’m going to sue him for everything he’s got!" Seeing him pull out his phone to call the police, I whispered, "It's Dominic Blackwood." James shot back, "That bastard should be the one getting sued! You were with him for three years, and he didn’t give you a dime when you divorced!" He paused for a moment before adding, "Don’t worry, Vivian. I’ll make sure to hit that dog of a man where it hurts. We’ll split the winnings fifty-fifty!" I gave him a long, somber look. "If you think you can survive long enough to go back home, then go ahead and sue." "…" James immediately shivered. He had heard that when Dominic Blackwood was on the brink of death, there were plenty of people in the Blackwood Family trying to seize power. But after a successful kidney transplant, Dominic showed up the next day holding an IV drip, ready to take control. No one knew what had really happened within the Blackwood Family back then, but it was clear that Dominic took over with an iron fist, completely revamping the family business. Today, the Blackwood Family was thriving, all thanks to his ruthless methods. In Paris, just mentioning Dominic Blackwood made everyone shudder. He decided it was best not to provoke this living nightmare; survival was the priority. "Cough, cough. I’m just standing up for you. Dominic Blackwood is worth billions now. You really got the short end of the stick leaving him with nothing." “It was my idea,” James scott finally admitted after a long pause. “Vivian, you really love him to the core, even to the point of not wanting to pull a single hair from him.” “You're overthinking it. I just don’t want to have anything to do with that man anymore.” James joked, “But my instincts tell me that guy has at least a little bit of feelings for you.” He had clearly sensed the murderous intent radiating from Dominic Blackwood earlier. If you hadn’t intervened, he might have ended up in serious trouble. That hostility was clearly a result of a man-to-man confrontation. I shrugged slightly, a faint smile on my lips. “You’re mistaken. He was just warning me.” “Warning you about what? Does he think you’re cheating on him, and I’m the other man?” I shot him a knowing look. “Dominic Blackwood has never cared about my feelings or safety. He only cares about his own reputation.” Besides that, I couldn’t understand why Dominic, who usually kept his emotions in check around others, would suddenly explode like that. James chuckled casually, “Vivian, I can’t just let someone label me as the other man without a fight. How about we… make it official?” I shot him a cold glance. “Should I tell Lia kelvin about your little scheme?” He laughed, “Okay, I get it. You prefer cold-hearted guys like Dominic Blackwood. A warm-hearted handsome guy like me doesn’t catch your eye, but Lia has good taste.” “I’ll cover the car repair costs.” “Ugh, what a classic case of ‘the husband’s debt is the wife’s responsibility.’ It’s truly a tragedy.” "Don't worry, I'll make sure to get the invoice back from Dominic Blackwood," I instructed James scott as he worked on the car. I needed the invoice to confront my creditors. This whole mess was a result of Dominic's madness, and I had no intention of taking the blame for him. Since I had decided to divorce, it was time to settle everything clearly, so that the jerk wouldn't think I would continue to clean up after him just to win his affection. James gave me a thumbs-up. "Vivian, you really are true to yourself—chasing debts and seeking revenge. I don’t know what kind of spell Dominic cast on you back then to make you act like a virtuous lady for three whole years." I chuckled bitterly, "Maybe it was just because I was foolish." Three years ago, when I married Dominic Blackwood, the Blackwood family didn't accept me, and my husband left me alone in an empty house for three months. When I finally saw him, I was filled with joy and anticipation, but Dominic's first words were not warm greetings but mockery. "Vivian Carter, you really are stupid!" I still couldn't understand why, even if he was a stranger who i had saved his life, he couldn't show even a hint of gratitude instead of disdain and ridicule. ... After returning to the hotel, I went to bed early, knowing I had a tough battle to fight the next day. Marvis styles, the director of Vyx, was a tough nut to c***k, and brands wanting to collaborate with Vyx were as numerous as the stars. If I wanted to stand out among them, it wouldn't be easy. Just as I was sleeping soundly, Ethan brook's call came through. "Vivian, I'm sorry to bother you at this late hour," Ethan said, his voice urgent. Trying to suppress my irritation, I mumbled sleepily, "Ethan, what's going on?" "There is something. Dominic's stomach is hurting again. What brand of stomach medicine do you usually prepare for him?" I quickly sent him the name of the medication. I thought that would be the end of it, but to my surprise, Ethan's calls kept coming in every half hour. "Vivian, does this brand of medicine have any side effects?" "Vivian, does this stomach medicine need to be taken with anti-inflammatory drugs?" "Vivian…" My sleepiness vanished in an instant, and the frustration that had been building up inside me could no longer be contained. "Put Dominic Blackwood on the phone!" Dominic’s POV I pressed my lips tightly together, driving in silence. The atmosphere in the car was unusually tense. Ethan brooks, feeling nervous, said, "Mr Dominic, it’s clear that you still care about Vivian. Should I get out and bring her here?" I let out a cold laugh. "Do you want me to send you to an eye doctor first, maybe get a brain CT scan while I’m at it, and approve your vacation?" Which part of me showed that I cared about her? Ethan felt like crying. "Mr Dominic, I just had a physical check-up, and I'm perfectly healthy! I can handle any task you give me!" I said coldly, "I hope I don't have to hear this misunderstanding again!" How could I possibly like that foolish woman, Vivian Carter? Even if I had a dog, as long as the leash was in my hand, I wouldn't allow it to go sniffing around elsewhere, right? After driving for a while, I glanced in the rearview mirror and saw that glaring red still stuck in the greenery. For some reason, it put me in a surprisingly good mood. "Why do you think Vivian Carter is hanging around James Scott?" Ethan brook's heart had just settled when he heard his name mentioned, causing it to tremble again. To him, this statement meant: I don’t care what you think; I want to know what I think! Ethan racked his brain, trying to figure out what I wanted to hear. For the sake of his job and paycheck, he steeled himself and said, "Of course, it's to make you jealous, Sir. Vivian Cartert through a lot of trouble to sit on the same flight as you, which says it all." I was indeed satisfied, but I snorted coldly, "Wishful thinking!" It was pretty much what I had guessed. Whether it was bringing up divorce or traveling with James Scott, it was all just to grab my attention. It seemed like the same old tricks, just with a new twist—she had learned the art of feigned indifference and provocation. Unfortunately, these tactics were utterly useless against me, as I had never cared for this woman in the first place. Ethan brooks was speechless.
