I laid back on the couch as I played on my phone. It was boring knowing that I had quit my job and school was out. We were in the middle of training for Connie and Carter. Carmen was doing some training with me that was more focused on battle style than what I usually did with my magic. I yawned as I stretched. I tossed my phone to the side as I turned over to see Connie. She was reading a book on water magic.
She looked up from her book and asked, "Don't you have some studying to do?"
"No."
"Didn't Carmen assign all of us to read up on our magics?"
"I wrote the book on wind magic. Why would I?" I shrugged as I picked up my phone.
"You wrote the book?"
"In the 1920s when I was Jessica Altman."
"You died not long after that book was published, right?"
"Yup. Most of what is known about wind magic outside of witch's circles is based off that book. All mythos." I chuckled.
Connie raised an eyebrow and shook her head, "I am still remembering how to fully use water magic. It will take time for me to remember. I mean, we can really master our magic in just a few short months. You have more access than the rest of us."
"I am also the one that always remembers first."
"How long did it take you to master your magic?" She tilted her head as she closed her book.
I pressed my lips together as I looked at my phone. I gritted my teeth. "Normally, when I have my memories I get my magic within a few months or weeks. As I get my memories, my magic becomes easier to master. I usually master my magic within three years. However, I don't have a teacher like you guys. Carmen is even trying to teach me more about magic."
"I don't like that. I mean how are we supposed to take out Alexander? I don't understand." She shook her head. She laid back on the couch as she closed her eyes.
She blew out a breath as I said, "I understand that we don't have to trust the goddess totally. However, I am tried of living like this. Aren't you?"
She stared at me with her jaw clenched. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked down at the ground. I pressed my lips together as I blew out a breath. "Yeah."
"When was the last time you ran into your soulmate? I am lucky because I see him in everyday life, but the rest of you?"
"I don't know. I really don't know. Arthur runs every time. And Anise...Anise. Who knows." She laughed.
I nodded to her as I tucked my phone into my pocket. I stood as I turned towards the door as the knocking started. I gritted my teeth as a growl escaped me. I walked over as the knocking continued. I put my hand to the door and blasted wind on the other side. A voice screamed out and I yanked the door open. I said, "Must you be so annoying, Carmen?"
She rolled to sit on the ground as she looked at me. Her hair was all over the place as she shook out leaves that were stuck in it. Connie stuck her head out staring at her. She said, "You don't know when to stop, do you?"
"Why would I?'
"Do you want food?" I asked as I held my hand out to her.
"I need food anyway." Carmen jumped to her feet as Hanna poked her head out of her house. Her eyes landed on Carmen as she let out a sigh. She rolled her eyes and stepped out of her house.
"Can I join you?" She asked.
"Sure." I smirked.
Carmen scoffed but stood. They walked in as Carmen looked around. Connie smiled as she looked at Hanna. Her eyes danced as Hanna walked into the kitchen. Hanna asked, "What is for lunch?"
"I can think of something." Connie grinned.
"I was thinking of tofu?" Carmen jumped in.
I shook my head as I walked to the kitchen. I went through the fridge for a moment as I decided on what would be good for lunch. I pulled out several ingredients for a salad plus some cooked chicken. Carmen whined as I started to use my magic in order to move around the food. I washed the lettuce and cut it along with some tomatoes, avocado, and cabbage. I sighed as I moved back and forth as Carmen narrowed her eyes on me. She tilted her head as I moved things around with ease. I put everything back into a bowl, mixing it up. I set it aside and poked around in the fridge. I found the dressings and pulled them out.
I set them out and everyone picked out what they wanted. I put everything out on a plate as Carmen said, "Your control has improved, Sara."
"It was part of the advice you gave me, Carmen." I nodded to her.
"Have you been doing stuff like that every day?" Carmen asked as she looked at her salad.
"I have." I pulled out the coffee maker and started on the coffee. I relaxed as the smell of warm coffee filled the air.
"I want you to continue doing that. Each task you can use your magic in/with do it. That small amount of control over each movement is important. Next week we will start using it with weaponry and more combat." Carmen shoved her fork into the salad, grinning at me.
"What about me, Carmen?" Connie asked in between bites.
"We will begin your training today after our meal. Can you make snacks, Hanna or Sara?"
Connie shook her head as she returned to her salad. Hanna made a face and said, "You know. I have been thinking I know I am a werewolf, but can I learn any form of magic? Something to aid in my transformation?"
Carmen stopped mid-bite to look at Hanna. She paused for a moment as she finished eating. She tilted her head to the side and said, "That is something that I never thought about. Most wolves are proud of themselves and their prowess. Your brother and father are strong wolves. They have a lot of power from their alpha power. For being a daughter of the alpha, you don't have that. Perhaps I can think of something. I am sure you can learn some of the basics. Witch's light. Basic healing. Stuff like that."
"Sure. I just want to be useful in someway. I know I am coming along on this journey but I want to have some value." Hanna looked at the ground as she played with her salad.
"Hanna, you are useful, dear." I stared at her but she refused to look at me.
"Let's see what we can do. I think you should be working on your fighting. That is something that you can work with Sara on. We will add on slowly. Deal?"
"Okay."
I let out a sigh, nodding to myself. The coffee was finished and there was plenty to worry about and plan.
