Hanna was bouncing up and down with a smile on her face as she dug through my closet. She wasn't going to allow me to pick out what I wanted to wear. She was going to make me wear what she wanted me to wear. I sat on the bed glaring at her. Finally, she picked out one of my shorter dresses that was flowy and it was one that I rarely wore. It was a deep blue that went to my knees. I blew out a long breath as I shook my head.
"Try it on, Sara. When was the last time you wore it?" She turned to look at me with her eyebrows up.
"I don't know."
"Try it on."
I snorted but it took it after a moment. I walked into the bathroom and stepped out in the dress. Hanna grinned at me and said, "I knew it would look amazing on you. You are pretty tall, plus blue looks great on your skin tone, Sara."
"I don't know, Hanna. I don't..."
"I see you going out in blues all the time."
"Don't you think this dress is a little revealing?"
"Why don't you wear a sweater with it?" She went back into my closet and pulled out one of my black sweaters that was warm for the evening. I let out a sigh as I pulled on the sweater that fit well with the dress but still looked good. I nodded to her, taking a look at myself in the mirror. My blonde hair fell to my waist like a mess with it. The dress hit about mid-thigh. It wasn't my favorite thing, but I would deal with it in the evening.
Hanna giggled and said, "I usually don't invite people from outside my family line to this event but I got special permission to invite you. They are going to love you. You're a witch, right?"
I froze as I stared at her in the mirror. I gritted my teeth and said, "And you're a werewolf."
Her eyes turned hard as I saw a hint of her wolf coming through. I pressed my lips together as she said, "Yes. How'd you know?"
"I am truthfully no witch. Both of my parents are human. I just have magic. Wind specifically," I answered as I turned around.
"Close enough. I want to know how you know." She glared at me as I turned back around to stare at her.
"You are talking to your wolf right now. Both are questioning how I know. I can see that from the look on your face. All of it comes clear with that look on your face. I can just tell. I have walked in this world for a long time." I shrugged as I walked over to my purse and picked it up."
"Exciting. Makes me nervous still. However, I knew you had magic when I first met you. Your energy is so strong," She answered. I nodded back to her. There was nothing surprising about that. Werewolves would pick up on scents most couldn't. However, the one thing I didn't tell her was that I could smell and hear like a werewolf. I just didn't have the strength. On top of that, my energy wouldn't be the same as a witch. She had to have a special ability herself beyond her wolf.
"You about ready, Hanna?"
"Yeah. Are you gonna wear any makeup, Sara?"
"I don't own any." She snorted with a shake of her head.
"Of course you don't. You are beautiful anyway." She patted me on the shoulder. I scowled at her.
She laughed. "Let's go." I growled.
It took more than 20 minutes to travel to the woods to get the party. People were already gathered around and talking with each other. Hanna found a place to park her car before she got out of the car. I stared at the building in front of me. There were a mingle of scents mixed together but one of them bothered me. I gritted my teeth as I got out of the car. The moment I stepped out of the car, all eyes went to me and saw the number of werewolves in the area. I blew out a long breath as Hanna came around to my side. She smiled at me and we started to walk off together.
"You'll need to meet the host."
"Alpha you mean?"
Hanna nodded to me as we headed up. I stared at the building, smelling the different scents in the air. My mind locked onto the one that stood out to me for a moment. I let out a long breath as we entered. There were plenty of servants running about as they handed out drinks and food. My eyes scanned the area as everyone at least glanced my way once. Hanna let me up some stairs to the second level until we stopped at a door and, on the other side, I felt a powerful energy flowing out. Hanna knocked loudly and with command.
A voice from the other side boomed, "Hanna, come in, my dear."
"Dear?"
"Yes, my father." I laughed and shook my head.
She opened the door and walked in first. I stepped in behind her as she closed the door quietly. The alpha let out a low growl, his eyes locking on mine. He growled, "Hanna, you brought a human here."
"This is my friend Sara. The witch I've been telling you about."
"Hanna, has your nose lost its sense? I can clearly tell that she is a human. Not a witch." He stood up, the energy coming off him overpowering. Hanna looked down at the ground and I wanted to do the same as my heart thundered in my chest. However, I stared at him.
I blew out a breath and said, "Yes. I am human. That does not mean I don't know. I know plenty. If I prove that I have powers, will that be enough?"
The alpha tilted his head down as he continued glaring at me. "Go on."
I held out my hand, gathering my energy. The air started to move. Around me, several things in the room started to move and to lift. I pulled the air together and condensed it into a small tornado. After letting them move for a moment, I made it disappear. The alpha tilted his head and nodded to me. "No witch could do that. And you have no faery in you?"
"None."
"Then...how?" I smiled at him. He narrowed his eyes.
"I will not reveal that."
He let out a low growl but sighed and nodded. "You revealed enough. That is protected. I need your name at least?"
"Sara Kylie Myers."
"How human. I am Aaron Hunter. I am the alpha of the Hunter Moon Pack." He held out his hand to me and I shook it. My eyes shifted over to Hanna, who had relaxed.
"A pleasure to meet you, Alpha Aaron."
"You are truly unusual for a human. At some point I would want to know more of your knowledge, Sara. You two are dismissed." He nodded to me, then to his daughter. I smiled at Hanna as she grabbed my arm and we left. To face an alpha was an interesting feet for sure. However, not as scary as I thought it would be.
