July 30 I stewed and procrastinated for quite a while over what to give Gus for his monthly prize. It wasn't that I didn't want to get him something. It was just that I wanted it to somehow show him how special he is to me––not that anything could quite convey that. After much hemming and hawing, I finally decided on a potted key lime tree. After all, he loves fruit and key limes are famous down here. I also decided he could take it with him as a good reminder of our time together after he goes home. I didn't mention that motivation to him when I presented him with it, though, because I don't even want to think about him leaving just yet.
