MEANWHILE AT THE EVERETT GROUP
“The chairman is on the phone for you sir” Isabella, Eliot’s secretary says as she hands over the phone to him
“I thought I was clear when I said I didn’t want to receive any visitors, calls inclusive” Eliot said to his secretary, completely ignoring what she had just said and leaving her hanging as she stretched the phone out to him
“I’m sorry sir, it was the chairman that called” Isabella said, hands still stretched out towards him
“Eliot, collect the phone right now” Elias Everett, Eliot’s father and the chairman of the company resounded through the phone
He reluctantly stretched out his hands to collect it from her
“You may leave now, Isabella” he said to her as she still stood there
She quickly made her way out of his office
“Yes, father” Eliot said as he let out a heavy sigh, subconsciously rolling his eye. He knew his father would always have his way and he was already expecting his call through the office phone since he had been ignoring him on his private phone
“I know you were not busy, Eliot, I called to ask your secretary if you had any meetings before I started calling you” Elias said through the phone
“Hmmm” Eliot responded, clearly uninterested
“Why are you ignoring my calls?” His father continued
“Nothing, father. I just wanted to rest and clear my head today. I told my secretary I didn’t want to be disturbed but she clearly didn’t listen” Eliot answered
“That’s okay, take as much time to rest as you need, you will definitely need it” his father said again
“Okay? Now is the time to tell me why you called” He said, clearly getting very impatient
“Have dinner with me tonight, I have something to tell you” Elias said
“Tonight? It’s too soon, I didn’t tell the chef I’ll be eating out” he tried to come up with the first excuse he could think of to avoid going
“I can see right through you, Eliot, and that excuse is very flimsy. You would come over tonight because I said so, see you at 8” His father said
He just let out a deep sigh at that, there was no escaping this one
“I would try to make it down tonight, bye father” He said in one breath
“That’s more like what I want to hear” Elias chuckled a bit over the phone
“Bye son” he said and hung up immediately
He called Isabella through the intercom and she came into his office to pick up the phone
“I’m leaving immediately” he said as he stood up to put on his suit jacket
“Is there a problem sir?” She asked concerned
He stared at her without emotions a little longer than normal, this made her so nervous that she began fiddling with her fingers
“There’s no problem, I need to get home before dinner” he said breaking the uncomfortable silence and breaking his gaze
“Okay” she responded in a low hush tone even though she was still so confused since it was still lunch time
He packed his laptop bag and picked up his keys, making his way out of the office while she followed closely behind.
He got home and took a nap and started preparing for dinner when he woke up
He finally started to wonder what his father wanted to say that was so urgent
‘I’m going there to find out so I shouldn’t overthink it’ he thought
He made his way downstairs and into his car
“To the chairman’s house” he told his driver and he got comfortable in his seat for the long ride.
