CHAPTER NINE

597 Words
I slowly walked out of the house with Ray and Jay. Just before the door closed, I took one last look. Somehow I knew this was the last time I would see it. The door closed with a slight bang and I followed behind Ray, his hand still gripping mine. Jay unlocked a car and stepped in. It was a pretty fancy car, I am terrible with cars but I was certain it was a sports car. It was completely unexpected and my surprise must have shown on my face. “What?” Ray asked. “How else do you think we got here? Besides, Jay likes to ride in style.” I glanced at Jay as he got into the driver's seat and I would have sworn he winked at me. I didn't pay any attention to the action because I still didn't trust my senses. Jay opened the back seat and helped me get in while Jay started the car. He then went around the passenger side and before he could close the door the car zoomed off. “Hey!” Ray exclaimed. Jay c****d his eyebrows at him and said, “Scared much? I don't see why?” I'm sure my lower jaw touched the ground, Jay was being cocky. I thought all he knew was stiff and uptight. I kept a keen look on his face through the rearview mirror. “True but to keep a body this old this good, is quite expensive.” Instead of answering Jay scoffed and directed the next sentence to me, “You better get typing. The last thing we want is your parents to raise an uproar when they get home.” “Just my dad and I can assure you he won't be home until the sun is up. We have plenty of time.” I looked out the window as I spoke, I wondered if things would have played out differently if my dad had kept to his word. “Here!” Ray uttered and tossed my phone and me, somehow I managed to catch it. “Thanks…” I had no idea what I was supposed to write but I knew this was to say why I was leaving. Hey Dad… I started, it took me almost thirty seconds including having to rewrite dad more than twice. I looked at the phone and I had the slightest urge to throw it. "Let me help,” Ray offered and I knew better than to argue. “I'm all ears,” he replied when I placed the phone in his hands. I then started speaking, I made it as emotionless as I could, I tried not to blame him but somehow it seeped out and just glared in the text. "Where are we going?" I asked after Ray had hit send. My dad would most likely not see the text until later today. I was tempted to send one to my mum but saying farewell to her would be a lot harder so I had left her out of it. She would be devastated but there was really nothing I could do about it, I would just be making it worse for her. “You'll see,” Jay said with a smirk. I didn't bother to ask any further questions, surprisingly I wasn't in a hurry to experience this new life. I felt like I had all the time in the world and I really wanted to take this journey slowly. I could tell this would be the last of my normal life.
